I have been following your channel for some time now and thanks to you, our homemade compost production has reached a really good level. We have a wedge system, some totes and a worm factory tower.
It is amazing how much waste we can produce and how those worms could help us deal with the global waste issue.
your weekly videos have become a great ritual Thank you.

Looking good. I'm not really set up for one of those bins, but the more I watch the more I want to figure out a way to incorporate one in my schema! Thanks for sharing!! :)

It doesn't have to be this big. A wedge can be done in a shallow sweater tote.👍🏼😁🪱

That was sure a cool clump of pot worms! As you said, there's a reason for them to be there so let them have at it! The one time I put a fatty paper towel in the bin, I had a springtail explosion. I definitely think the critters are opportunistic when worms are reluctant to get into greasy foods.

The worms in their new bin seem to be loving it, well done Ann. 20% vermicompost seems to be the sweet spot for my potting mixes too.
I get some mites, but no springtails in my outdoor summer bins, a lot of rolly pollies, lol. I think temperature and moisture levels are pretty critical when it comes to the other bin critters, pH I am sure plays a role.
Starting a bin for my upstairs grow room where temps are 10 to 15 degrees warmer in the bins. Will definitely check to see if there are differences with the bin critters and the microbes, should make an interesting video.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Stay Well!!!

Can't believe Wedgie has worms in pumpkin already. That's crazy fast. Nice to see migration in action! It works

Pot worms are good for people who breed fish. They are a great food source for the smaller fish. Nice video. Enjoy the festivities.

So when do u plan on trying to harvest from 100 gal wedge any leakage issues yet. I did get ahold of yom and got the last of his totes bags

    • @PlantObsessed
      @PlantObsessed  12 годин тому +1

No leaking yet. It will be several months before I try and harvest. I still need to build up the volume. It has all settled to about half height right now 👍🏼😁🪱

I'm putting the finishing touches on my own 55 gallon bin like you "Blue", except mine is white. I think I'll name him "Max". Since these white barrels are translucent (allows light through) do you think I should paint the outside to eliminate the light penetration? I'm afraid the worms might avoid the stuff right against the inner surface of the barrel because of the light. I'm leaning towards paint but was wondering what ya'll thought?

Most of my small bins are transparent... It doesn't make a difference. I've been running them for more than a year.

I think it will be ok as is no paint. I have had clear bins before and they were fine 🪱😁👍🏼

Thanks Ann! I really look forward to your videos. The wedge system works great. My bins are much smaller but it’s still really fun to see the worms migrate towards the food.

Pretty good movement of worms in the new wedgie bin!! I think temps and moisture levels play a role in what critters seem to dominate, and both those change with the seasons. Yep, I see mites in the avocado shells as well, probably because the worms don't go after the flesh as fast??!!? Excellent video and sneak peak of your new worm bin Ann!!🪱🪱🪱
