Another classic from Barry’s Bees Honey! My colonies are also pretty light and I have already applied one round of Hive Alive fondant. Have the second round ready to go. Will make sure they are loaded up again before the Expo. Enjoyed watching your wax rendering process as well. And that DJI mic is a game changer. They are amazing little things. Their range blows me away. Merry Christmas Mike. See you in a few days!!!
Merry Christmas to you Mike. It is in the 20"s here been cold for several days now. I hope u have a great time at the EXPO. Have a Great week and again Merry Christmas.
This holiday season I tried some of the white rubbery silicone molds off of Amazon... they worked really well and the price is right! Very pleased with results. Placing toothpicks on the sides of the mold, under the hairclip holding the wick, will allow you to fill the mold and not have to deal with leveling issues. For sure Jesus is the reason we celebrate and give thanks. Amen! See ya at the Expo!
Great video Mike! You make the wax rendering look simple with your equipment! Merry Christmas!!! I hope to see you at the Expo if things work out, I’m trying to get it together…
Story about Bee's wax candles. In the early 19th century the Royal Palace in England used only Bee's wax candles. They rarely got used up and it was one of the perks of the head housekeeper's job that he got all the partly used candles. Then someone decided the palace should be illuminated with gas. The head housekeeper said that the gas pipes would bring rodents into the palace and opposed gas lights but lost the fight. Gas was installed and, sure as your born rats started appearing in the palace. He said quite loudly 'I told you so!' He was allowed to go back to candles but Queen Victoria said they needed to economize and use cheaper tallow candles in place of bee's wax. These were smokey and smelly and the Housekeeper said "we need to go back to bee's wax!' In the end it was found out that the head housekeeper was making a big part of his income selling the partly burned bee's wax candles and had been bringing rats into the palace to fight the gas and was also getting the worst tallow candles to get back to bee's wax so his income would be restored.
Hello Hello thanks for All the interesting trips good or bad long or short around the Bee yards this season . I think we all have had a odd season but we made it through it all. So that hand on our shoulder pushing us to just set back an THINK what needs to be done . I know we do this bee keeping over an over all the time but I catch myself just not thinking because there are to many other things going on. Also watching your videos an a few other people videos is just relaxing . Thanks for the season an hope you an your family and friends has a relaxing Christmas an enjoy the cause for it . Oh ya on my candles I have a real small set of side cutters they are in the craft department like at hobby lobby store. They are really for cutting soft wire . They have points on the end an you can stick it down on each side of the wicks below the wax an cut the wicks off below the wax an that make leveling the bottom a lot easier on the candles. Then I put wax paper on the stove eye an melt an level the bottom. Thanks Mike
I sometimes rub the candle bottom on the side of the pot I'm heating just enough to ease the edges and embed the wick. Most things work better when you plug them in! Hopefully this time next year you can be doing a review for a HillCo wax cappings spinner!
Afternoon Mike. Happy Lords Day, Merry Christmas. I really like the one I picked up, it's a stand alone unit and it seemed to work real well. Best part it was less then $200.00 HFSTOOL HP96, I purchased it off of Amazon. It records and even has a mic, sure made it nice to be able to "Spot" check the colonies.
I just looked it up DC. Looks like a nice unit. Good price. I don't hate the model I have, it just doesn't do what a FLIR does. While it defines the target better as in the actual picture and shape of the hive, it's heat definition isn't as sensitive. The FLIR doesn't give you a nice outline of the hive, but the definition in thermal layers is spot on and it holds it even as you move it around. I'm also not a fan of that company. I'm sure their products are all mass produced and marketed under several names, but I'm usually careful about them. Have a wonderful and Spirit filled Christmas Brother!!!
Merry Christmas Mike I found using a thermal camera it’s bees to use early morning before the sun comes up and there’s no interference from the sun creating and heat on the box
Thanks Keith! So far, I’ve been able to have enough from my hives. I think if I ever run too low, I’ll probably just temporarily stop sales. Same with honey. I’d rather always be able to say with confidence that it’s all from my operation.
Hay your waxs molds . Where can you get the ? That's the red ones. And you and your family have a safe and happy merry Christmas and a happy new year to .😊
They should make a reusable heat resistant strainers to put in those wax melters like a trash bag. An extra large 200-400 micron paint strainer pretty much. Slap the wax down inside the strainer and just pull that puppy out once the wax has melted.... Got the gum in a bag with clean wax inside the melter, turn the strainer inside out, stick it in the hot water you just removed, clean the strainer out real quick and hang it up to dry. Now ya clean clean wax to do ur thang. Enjoyed it, y'all have a Blessed and Merry Christmas! 🎄
I agree Tim. I think just reading this that a 5 gallon paint strainer might be able to be fitted to something and I could make a one time use strainer. I’ll have to think on this for a bit. Merry Christmas to you as well!! And a Happy New Year!!
Mike, we recently purchased 6 molds from the bee lite company you highlighted in a previous video love them Thanks. Now a how I do, if I have a candle that doesn't sit right I take my double boiler with out wax in it and use it smooth the bottom. If I can wait till I get a group and all at the same time. Merry Christmas
For those of us that only have a few hives, I use an old 30 cup percolator to clean wax I cut 2 circles out of wire mesh to fit inside percolator the first one goes on the bottom above the heating element making a floor above the heating element then I put the old dirty comb in a 5-gallon paint strainer leaving enough room to tie a knot about 7 inches by 7 inches then place old comb inside percolator then place the last wire mesh on top and put a small rock on top to keep everything from floating then fill with cold water then just plug in the power cord for 4 hours and your done just let cool over night and you will have a 7 inch circle of wax about 1/4th inch thick, you can empty out the paint strainer and use over and over.
Thanks for this year's videos, can't wait till next year's videos btw, did I understand it right when you talked about the liir, are you with the fire department?
Wishing you all a SAFE and happy Holidays from snowy ⛄️ Michigan Temperature is?? 17 degrees ATM 😮🥶 but girls?? They are all snug as a bug in a rug with their 2 inch blue strofoam wraps .. 6 A.M. just came inside from filling wood boiler up full. Hay doesn’t matter if it’s a $100 one or $1000 as long as I can see where the girls are at tell me which one needs to be open an get some feed… I use my HVAC imaging camera from work. But I got a el’ cheep 0 that does the job to give me an idea where they’re at in the hive box. Nice wax!!! But sadly all my extra wax goes into triple dipping my new frames.. ❤
It's not hard I think. It's more work than many years ago due to the varroa mite, but it's not hard. Leave them food, keep the mites in check, and maintain a healthy queen. They do just fine. Down here our bees fly most of the winter, so they cruise thru the stores very fast, but just monitoring them takes care of that. That's my take on it anyhow. Thanks for watching and for the comment Glenn!!
3:05 I like my flir 😊🐝☀️Thanks Mike!
Yep, great products from FLIR.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
Thanks! You too!
Merry Christmas Mike! Thanks for another nice video, may God bless you and your family!

Love the message. Yes, Jesus is the reason for the season.❤🎉
You should be proud of Maxant. Made in the USA. When I called them, I was talking to someone in the building where the product was made.
I have several Maxant products. I have also talked to them a few times as well. I don't get your point.
Merry Christmas Mike
I found using a thermal camera it’s bees to use early morning before the sun comes up and there’s no interference from the sun creating and heat on the box
Great video Mike. Do you have to purchase additional wax, or do you generate all you need for your candle business? See you soon!!!
Thanks Keith! So far, I’ve been able to have enough from my hives. I think if I ever run too low, I’ll probably just temporarily stop sales. Same with honey. I’d rather always be able to say with confidence that it’s all from my operation.

It’s so funny to see grass in December 😅-25 in Nova Scotia Canada 😅
Merry Christmas 🐋
Get a feed scoop and use it to load the wax with that way you can slowly fill it in without splashing.
Merry Christmas Mike! Where did you get those block molds?
Thanks for this year's videos, can't wait till next year's videos
btw, did I understand it right when you talked about the liir, are you with the fire department?
Is that your trailer for NAHBE deals?
😂😂. I wish!! Also wish I could afford to load it😂😂
Oh boy sometimes i sure wish i lived down south and not up here in the great white north lol
This warm weather is killing us . Better have some feed on them hives
I wrap my hives and have a Flir gun but the wraps block any heat signature, so its not an option for me.
Yepper, electrical equipment works so much better when plugged in🤨😳🤫 Merry Christmas and see ya in two weeks!
🤠👍

Eco thermal gun works good it’s on Amazon
Merry Christmas. I hope i have a chance to say hi at NAHBE
Why is it so hard to keep a hive alive?
