The Descent special feature called Underground Experience was an alltimer. Basically while you watch the movie, there is a small separate screen at the side that talks about the behind the scenes aspect of the film that is sync to that certain scene you are watching. Like a live action directors commentary/ cast commentary but also behind the scenes while that scene is happening
Criterion has amazing special features from Silence Of The Lambs to Brazil and The Abyss had an amazing documentary on the DVD. The Thing DVD or Bluray has a nice and long documentary.
Right here with you in terms of the extras. I love the behind the scenes stuff showing how they were made along with the problems and also the successes. Do love that the boutique labels are upgrading and releasing the older movies stacked with stuff but like you, for me… the interviews don’t always satisfy the urge of wanting to see more actual on set stuff.
I just got the new planet of the apes on 4K and it comes with a second disk that is the whole movie (on Blu-ray) with the top half of the screen, being the finished movie in the bottom, half of the screen, being the raw footage with the people in Mokapu suits, and a few full CGI pre viz scenes and he can be played with full commentary. By far one of the best special features, a studio has given us Saint peter Jackson, lord of the rings/hobbit, and James Cameron Avatar movies
I agree about the interviews and gag reel never sells me, I like gag reels like Jackie Chan comedies but those don’t always work. Give me a commentary all day long something I can play in the background and learn while I do anything else.
The Alien Anthology boxset has insane making of docs for each movie. I think each one is feature length too. Anytime I rewatch them I always rewatch the docs too. I think those discs are only in the anthology box though.
There’s a great documentary on the Jaws blu-ray called The Shark is Still Working . It’s a bit different because it doesn’t just talk about the making of film it talks about the legacy of Jaws and its impact and it’s fascinating, it even talks about the making of the original making of Jaws documentary that was made for the original laserdisc release. It’s a must watch for any Jaws fan. It’s an older film but there’s a great documentary on the special edition DVD of Disney’s 2000 Leagues Under the Sea. It’s worth watching just to learn about the original giant squid sequence, you see how terrible and fake looking the original squid was and what Walt Disney went through to get a better looking squid and resulted in the best scene from the movie.
Peter Jackson's King Kong 4k edition has like 12 hrs of behind the scenes features. Since you like Michael Bay his R rated version of Pearl Harbor has a vast amount of special features on it.
I don’t have Jackson’s King Kong on 4k, I have the dvd but don’t think the doc is on there, id definitely like to check that out! Yea I have the Pearl Harbor special edition dvd with those behind the scenes. Most of Bays films have amazing BTS, even The Island is jam packed!
I just preordered that same Neverending Story box set today! Honestly the book box is what kind of sold me. I love that book prop. I actually already own the documentary. I hopped on the filmmakers kickstarter campaign when she was releasing the disks herself. I've also got her Flash Gordon and Flight of the Navigator documentaries and she's working on a Goonies one I'm probably gonna have to get. So yeah I get the BTS doc fascination....
@@daemionluccas490 😂 I had to think about that 1 for a second, when you said NES I was like 🤔 did she do a Super Nintendo documentary 😂 then I put it together hahah 🤦🏼♂️
Empire of Dreams from the Original star wars trilogy dvd is amazing. The making of on the jurassic park collection DVD is also really good. They removed it from the blu ray and 4k
Oh man great reminder! Totally forgot about Empire of Dreams 🤦🏼♂️ same with JP, I still keep my dvd set because of that, same with a Indiana Jones, they didn’t come with some Blu-ray’s or 4ks
Surprised you didn't mention the Alien Quadrilogy / Anthology box sets, that was like Charles de Lauzirika's masterpiece. Especially the Alien 3 making of documentary.
@@thelastmoviestanding The Alien Quadrilogy set is very much worth it! It has the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 on it which is a color corrected and added special effects version of David Fincher's work print (and preferred cut) that he first turned in that the studio did not like and ordered it to be re-cut.
Just bought twister and boss baby on dvd but I wish that the studio that released them on dvd released thouse movies on blu-ray also cause if you buy a curtain movie on blu-ray you get more special features then on the dvd verison
I love special features that has a "theatre audience reactions" like the movie The heat starring Sandra Bullock. Now imagine that for the original Halloween, Alien, or even Avengers endgame. That would be too good to be true
Speaking of Ridley Scott, Prometheus has a 4-disc blu ray release with a special features disc that's stacked with hours of content including another 3 hour doc. i found a used copy of it in great condition and it's worth picking up.
Prometheus has a 4 disc set? what!! I didn't know that. thanks for the heads up. I just have regular BluRay/DVD combo, I was going to upgrade to 4k but I just looked & they don't have that documentary on. Will definitely be looking out for that 4 disc set. I love Prometheus
@@thelastmoviestanding had no idea this edition until i saw it out in the wild. One disc is the blu ray 3D edition (and another disc is the standard DVD). From what i've read this 4 disc edition is the only one that contains the documentary.
@@staticprevails Yea I just looked it up on Bluray.com & compared to others, looks like that's the only 1 with the Doc. I looked online & found it at a local store for $10. will definitely be getting it.
A Personal Journey With Martin Scorsese Through American Movies (1995, 220 minutes pall time) i have R2 Belgium/Dutch dvd from 2007. The Eastwood Factor Extended Version (88:27) avaible on Bluray of Here After. Die Another Day from script to screen (50 minutes). Was r2 exclusief on 2 Disc SE 2003 dvd first, but later on also repeat / first time avaible on Bluray. Inside Die Another Day is with 80 minutes also great 9 part documentry.
Mike the owner of Grindhouse Video said on a youtube livestream that Grindhouse will carry the Neverending Story boxset. You may want to cancel your order from Imprint if you don't want to pay the 30 dollar shipping.
I'm kinda weird with making ofs and behind the scenes. I avoid them like the plague. For me it kills the illusion somehow, as stupid as that sounds. If I saw a guy with his fist up Salacious B. Crumb's butt, working him like the doll that he is, I couldn't delete that from my memory. Although it's worse with settings. I recently saw a picture where the ending of Jaws was filmed like half a minute from a beach or something. Takes away the tension for me. When I'm into a movie, I'm fully immersed. That's why I could never watch the 18 week long making of of Lord Of The Rings either.
"Making of" pieces these daysare fluff pieces made or repackaged to be a Making of where as really they are pre release promo chunks to sell the movie. Tells and shows you nothing. Or worse yet, lies to you.
Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau and The Death of Superman Lives are two of my favorite movie docs
