Corruption is fairly common in China, not sure if the video you saw was the same as the one I did but the ones I saw were clearly new. The truth is not so clear, more than likely there are a mix of new vehicles and those from ex car share schemes. The CCP were heavily subsidising "new energy vehicles", usually when any government do these special schemes they get abused by crooks making a fast buck, this is the reality of the world we live in. China historically had limits on the age of vehicles (same as Japan) this was not good for the environment as perfectly good serviceable vehicles got scrapped ( dumped in fields).

Look up who sponsors Inside China Auto and tell me this is a 100% independent factual report! My original comment was giving the benefit of the doubt to this report but now I am pretty sure these cars are new, making a car look old by throwing a drink bottle and a few leaves into a car doesn't mean it's old. The thousands of cars in the distance could be anything, they are too far away to tell what they are. As the CCP don't like any negative news getting out I will assume this video is NOT factual.
There’s so much rubbish spouted on UA-cam and it’s just created to win views. And most people believe it. It’s always the lone voice who is right. Thank you for this honest report
Thanks so much for this informative video. It's not news that lots of selfmedia vloggers like to exaggerate things and even fabricate facts to attract attention.
In China, the number of new electric car registrations reached 8.1 million in 2023, Compared to the clip found 2000 EV cars in the graveyard, the answer is 1/4000 of EV cars production abandoned in the graveyard. it is a small portion of China's EV car production as rubbish.
I remember visiting relatives in America in the mid-80s, and my uncle took me to a car auction where honestly in any direction, field after field, there were cars for sale. Some were Porsche some were local American but every single car of every value you could imagine as far as the eye could see
Yes but they don't have lithium ion batteries in them and there are auto Wreckers along with car crushers in place to recycle all of those ICE vehicles 🤔

@@JonySmith-bb4gx oh you can still see my comment? that is impressive. I can't even see it anymore......insidechinaauto deleted it......or something...
So, if I'm understanding you correctly, this confirms that there are indeed a lot of "discarded" EVs sitting around in China due to the failure of car-sharing companies, which largely sprang up to take advantage of government subsidies. However, there aren't nearly as many as the original video (by 'serpentza') claims, and they are NOT in fact leaking chemicals all over the place. (Btw, those batteries are indeed recyclable, and will probably be "harvested" in the not-too-distant future.)
Basically right, yes, though I'm not sure what subsidies were being given out for car sharing schemes, if any, they'd be more likely for sales of cars but I'm not an expert on what subsidies there are/were. Clearly if there ever were, there aren't any anymore because nobody is rushing into this space. Bear in mind most people got into the 'sharing' game not for money but for the value of the data. Knowing where people go and when is big business if done right.

Great video. Not only being factual, but providing some detailed info and even some context. Bravo! I have seen several critiques of the initial inflammatory video. But none of them had this fortuitous access to the site, and none mentioned the unsold imports from VW group, or the infamous Toyota BZ4X.
Things I only discovered when I got there. I'm not sure the VWs are imports, they make those models here, but the Audis, Toyotas and Hondas I'm not so sure. I'll have to check. Only way to see what's real is to go see. Luckily I had the chance and it's open for anyone to go in.
@@InsideChinaAuto It is hilarious all those sensationalist videos with ominous music about "things the CCP DON"T want you to know about this massive auto graveyard!!!!". Thanks for that. In those videos I commented that there was no dust on the windows even though it was in a rural area, There was no long grass between the vehicles. Therefore they were put there recently. You have solved the problem of why they were there- ride sharing. Others lacked a spare part in manufacturing. Others were bank repossessions..
Indeed. The vast majority are from bust companies that tried something that didn't work. Once bust, presumably assets get seized and need dealing with. As of yet, if seems most haven't been dealt with, likely because it's not economical to do anything with them. Eventually it will have to be sorted though, at the very least having the batteries removed.
@steveblomefield9513 Quite possibly. Don't know enough about that to comment though I do feel bad if these are the cars they're getting. The Neta Vs wouldn't be so bad, they're basic but OK and relatively recent, but the BJEVs not so much.
@@InsideChinaAuto Whenever there are new technologies, there is usually a craze of new companies that are startups. In Chine there were 500 EV companies. Now most of them go bust, some of them are merged with other companies and fade from history. After 40 years only a handful of companies remain that have all the patents and have a known trusted brand. The surviving companies have created deflation, where they are able to mass market their product at cheaper prices [lower prices, razor thin prices, bring a greater volume of buyers, creating greater .volume of profits]. This creates deflation. We see this with tesla who, because of greater volume of slues is able to lower prices but yet have incredible profits because of greater volumes. They also get brand recognition. Thus customers desert other companies and rush to the cheaper, better tesla. Because of greater profits, tesla is able to manufacture more charging stations, have better electronics, have better software, learns more manufacturing lessons, improves manufacturing methods , all the while getting better and better. Other companies get left behind and go bust. There is nothing wrong with seeing a field of 5000 unsold cars. It is normal with new technology. In my day there were 500 computer manufacturing startups. Now there are only a handful, but the ones we have have razor thin margins but greater profits. Today we have AI startups, a veritable fleas nest of startups. They will be merged with other companies and only a few will remain. Having 490 causalities is normative and there is no shame in that.
... and they all have active license plates. No one scraps a car with the plate, you keep the plate with you because getting a plate alone can be very difficult in the large cities.

I've seen the other video on YT that you are referring to (although there is more than just that one) and it is a stark contrast to what you portray here. It's scary that misinformation/disinformation is allowed on this scale. Worldwide, we need a clampdown on the BS so that we get a clear indicator of the state of the planet and its resources. Waste management is more important than ever these days, and living practises need a thorough review. I'll just throw one example into the ring. Television sets. Why on earth do we need so many options? Massively oversized screens, harmful chemicals within and ultimately, they are nothing more than something you look at for an hour or two to fill a gap in your day. In Costco they have upwards of 20 different sets, all showing the same crap. This needs sorting out sooner rather than later.
I'd love to believe we have what it takes as a society to have a reasoned conversation on that exact subject but my faith in our collective humanity perished long ago.
But in regards to waste management, the conclusion of the other videos are correct. These outdated BEVs are not going to be recycled . This is the Modus Operandi of China - take an idea that makes short-term profits, mass produce that commodity, abuse trade relations to push out competitors, nationalize industry, go bust, repeat, with no regards to the environmental impact.
Cheers. Super basic video this. I promised I'd make it so I did but my bread and butter is the car reviews, didn't really have the time to make this as decent as it could have been. Just sticking to the facts.

Once, long ago, I drove through Nevada and southern California and along the world's largest airplane parking lot! Amazing site - some planes without engines, without tails, most without brands (you could detect KLM blue 😅, but most were white) and I could imagine some totally untrue stories as well. Social Media are for the ego's of the publisher - not at all reporting so one grain of salt is not enough at all! On the other hand, some more openness with China would make people understand each other more - in general. Such articles would then, possibly, been quickly disregarded by clarifications like yours. And this video in that sense helps mutual understanding a lot! Hope that these assets find a way to good use. Thanks for the great on site (!) vlog!
@@toyotaprius79 I think maybe the post above is referring to an airplane graveyard near Victorville, Ca. But the EV1 was sent to the GM proving grounds, which is in Arizona, near Yuma. I mean that guy's entire channel is clickbait. You scroll back far enough and you'll see when he tried his hand at honest vlogging about life in China, going out all day, editing down all that footage, just to accumulate 50k views over years. Now he can pull some video/pics from the internet, loop it on a green screen behind him, barf out some "China bad" script, and get maybe as many as a million clicks in as little as a week, then just rinse and repeat the next week. Unsurprisingly he's gonna stick with this new business model.
Without a doubt you can. Obviously he does try to convince people by trying to make out that it's concern and the environment and he really tries hard to give a semblance of rationality but some of the claims are outright lies, like the more than 10,000 number. I just went to see how real those numbers were.
Cheers Olaf. Let's see what can be investigated that fits in around my reviews. Barely had time to make this to be honest, I've got a bunch of car reviews waiting for me to edit.
The figures refer to the Neta V models, which the other video claims are 'more than 10,000' in number. There are only 146 of those, and they're not new. The car there is loads of is the BJEV EC3 and I explain that he's right about those being failed car sharing ventures.
Thanks for this! I had to go to every video about this "abandoned ev" telling the facts and truth... but yeah a bigger brand should buy them and repurpose them like geely, gac, saic, changan or BYD even if it it for home purposes...
Thank you for bringing the truth into the light, I wonder what might happen to these EVs... let's hope these do not rot in the wild instead of getting use somewhere else
Well you are telling the truth, which is not spicy :D Thats why you got 100 times less subscribers than the guy (you are referring to) who cooks up stories for a spicy content. I know he is fake the moment he said BYD is making fake registrations to prop up the sales numbers. Thanks for your honest review.
These cars are all taxis or shared cars for official use. It’s not that the car doesn‘t work, but that the company goes out of business or is upgraded. If these cars were scrapped, they would have been dismantled long ago.
I will take your video with a pinch of salt as advised. Joking aside thanks for the video, makes a lot more sense. It still is concerning on two points however:- 1. How many places through China is that replicated and what is going to happen to the cars? 2. What happens when the next big technology jump happens and all the current EV cars become obsolete. Are the "car parks" going to be 10x bigger filled with 2021/22/23 models? I guess that is a different story though.
I am afraid this is nothing new when I was in America in the mid-80s, I would go to vehicle auctions that would be thousands upon thousands of vehicles of all kinds strewn across many fields. Some of them were insurance right off, and some of them were brand-new. (as far as I could tell anyway.) of every kind make and value.
My thoughts exactly, "zakelwe". Still very disturbing to see these just parked up and no effort to recycle or reuse - at least for the batteries. Tells me we don't know how to recycle used/obsolete batteries yet. Not good for the strip mining operations going on around the world. What an utter waste. Shame.
1. As in bankruptcy sales the world over, they’ll go to auction. Some might get a second life as a learner vehicle etc, but the overwhelmingly vast majority will be bought by recycle and scrap merchants. China is one of a handful of countries that recycle lithium EV batteries - I don’t think any western countries recycle batteries more than a token amount. 2. We’re going to see EV car parks growing all over the world - it’s not an especially Chinese problem. Lithium batteries are a major environmental and safety problem because they burn like a flame thrower and emit lethal skin burning fumes - check out videos of burning EV cars after a car crash for some examples.
There are more of them though I'm not sure how many. Some are in the original video, No Place To Place 2, though they seem to be smaller than this and have the really really crap cars in them. Honestly the issue is not the EV part, it's the car itself. The cars in these parks, not the Neta so much as its newer, but the others were the cheapest, crappiest cars they could be, and the Chinese car industry has just gotten so much better in the last 5 years, so much more value, 100x better infotainment and interiors, the competition (there's about 70 Chinese brands) is intense so you snooze you die. The EV part of these cars is probably what an early Nissan Leaf is in Europe, but the interior is like what an original Mini is to a new one. Nobody will want them, they're not economical to fix and sell, so as one guy said, you have to hope the batteries get recycled and the cars scrapped at some point.
Thank you for making the efforts to investigate this widely reported lie. Well, after watching this video, I guess we can either interpret it in several ways: 1) the positive aspect is the sheer dynamism of the Chinese entrepreneurs and EV makers as shown by the numbers of these unwanted EVs which were so quickly superseded by the next generations of EVs. In some ways, it is as if these EVs are mobile phones which became obsolete in a very short period of time 2) the competition within the public transport system must be extremely intense 3) the negative aspect (as you pointed out too) is the wastage in letting these unwanted cars sitting there idly with almost no chance of them being ever put on the road again as they are technologically so backward in comparison to the latest models. The authorities should just clear them up quickly by every means.
Good to hear this. To me, I was shocked by that story, but this clears a lot about how and why. Very good to hear bikes and subways and trains dominate over cars. The US could rethink it's car driven mind. BTW, hope here it does not start any fire...... damn that would be a mess.

Glad you found us mate and glad you like the videos. Neta has been like watching evolution in real time. Their first V was so bad, almost made from aftermarket parts, but what they're making now is lightyears better.
Good on you for finding the truth. I have had this happen real time. Low season we hibernate about 2-300 rental cars in a quarry, parked up as you see in the vid for 2-3 months. For security we remove the front number plate ( stops plate stealing). We recieved notification from council via irate landowner, accused of dumping, environmental hazard ...... some "green" politician "going to expose the company & prosecute " They were banging their drums and making a total song & dance, including TV crew that broke into & trespassed to film. until they found the facts & truth. Not one apology.
Yeah, I wouldn't expect one either. As has been said recently, EVs have become the new culture war (as if we don't already have enough), it's extreme opinions or nothing. These cars are a waste here no doubt but it's the cars themselves that are the problem, not the EV part, because they were cheap and crap and now you can get cheap, better, and new.
I'm sure it is but I'd have to find who owns them and what exactly is happening with them. I'm planning to go back one day to see what more I can find out then see what we're looking at.

Would have been interesting to try and figure out who owns them and how much they want for one. They seem left unlocked so they must not care too much about what happens to them, would they take a few hundred RMBs in exchange for a set of keys? 😅
Leaving most of the claims aside from the original blogger, this highlights a potentially big issue with EV's. As with mobile phones. Technology moves at a very fast pace. The same could happen with EV's. This leads to a potential scenario whereby cars, only a few years old, become worthless and redundant as people want the latest tech, best range, quickest charging. With ICE. This tech cannot really progress now. A little bit more efficient and cleaner, but essentially it hasn't evolved.
That's the issue, because EVs are developing fast currently, they had no investment for 100 years, now they have it all. There will be waste in early years, or at least leftovers cast aside, but from what I understand, batteries can be fully recycled so if these old triangles can be reshaped into squares, there's hope yet.
Please make a video about the new Haval H5. I know it's an ICE, I know it's a large, heavy SUV, so not environmentally friendly at all, but it looks to be a very unique value proposition, i.e., it's dirt cheap, given all the metal Great Wall is throwing into the car! Thank you!
A good explanation provided and well researched. I mentioned your channel in reply to someones comment on another channel that brought up the "Brand new EV's rotting in a field" question, which would have been "reported" by a few Anti-China propaganda sites that are invariably produced from outside of China. Namely, the likes of Serpentza and Laowhy86 who work together to produce streams of this type of rubbish for their loyal followers.
Thank you very much. I saw the Serpentza video and the problem with it is that it makes some false claims and some true claims but without any context. Based on that, I can assume the same kind of oversights are likely to be present in their other work so I don't pay attention the rest. They'll know it well enough themselves that you can only truly know China by living here and even a few years out the country can mean almost everything changes. I went out for two years and so much had changed when I got back, particularly in the EV and car space.
@@InsideChinaAuto These two are famous professional anti-China channel. No matter they live China or not any more, they just against all Chinese thing
Ha ha ! So the only new unsold cars here are VW Audi and Toyota! What a delicious irony. I am speculating that many of these vehicles may not have the most valuable component anymore anyway? (The battery pack).
I wasn't able to see but I suspect the batteries are still attached. The VWs Audis and Toyotas will get sold eventually but they're not popular so it'll take some time.
The automobile industry worldwide is suffering a slow painful death. I love cars, but for many people, they simply don't make sense anymore. Maybe because of price, maybe because of inconvenience, maybe because of concerns about the environment. Dunno know. New (and used ) vehicles are piling up all over the world.
I still think its a bit rich to claim that having all these newish EV's sitting rotting in a field is somehow not a problem. If this is a situation that exists in more cities in China, then the figures quoted in the original video would be dwarved. But then it takes a brave person to go film in these places. I assume you got permission from someone before being allowed there ? Did you have to have the film vetted before you put it online, to make sure you were putting out the correct message ? Just wondering......
You should not believe any message on this channel, and just keep all those shits that you'd believed before, they are well-suited for your twisted and tiny brain.
No Mark, I saw somebody online say where it was, I checked it out on Baidu Maps to match it to the video and found the location, then went to see if you could get in, and it turns out you can just walk right in to the old car bit. The new cars are kept a bit safer. The real issue is that the cars that are abandoned (more the BJEV EC3 than the Neta V) are obsolete. Very basic when new, their drivetrain is fine but the interior and infotainment system is stone aged compared to what Chinese consumers have chance to buy now. You can see a bunch on my channel. It's been the most ridiculous transformation and the journalists and executives that came to Shanghai Auto Show after 4 years away all couldn't hide their surprise. We get used to life barely changing with each year in the West. China remains the fastest changing society on the planet and it can only be believed if you see it.
@@InsideChinaAuto So what you actually uncovered is a different problem in that all these still reasonably recent EVs are essentially abandoned because no one wants them after the original owner goes bust or whatever. Still not a good situation.
@@schrodingerscat1863 Well it's not as simple as that. These are former rental cars and 5-6 years old. That means likely no fast charging, spartan interiors with lots of blank button spaces, tiny screens, no decent connectivity (you have no idea how important that is in China), no 5G, no ADAS functions, and that's the BJEV EC3s that were OK when new. The green and white things in the other video were barely fit for purpose at the time, let alone now when China's car market has come on the way it has done in the last half decade. In China terms, this isn't just an original Nissan Leaf vs a new one, it's like an original Mini vs a new MINI, minus any personality.
It's not so much an issue of the EV, just that China moved on at an unprecedented speed and these cars just cannot compete anymore, rendering them worthless at least in China.

Thanks for doing this. The original video has been broadcasted by quite a few UA-camrs. Some say those cars are for fake sales. But your video definitely debunks that false claims. Good job!
I was curious too, wasn't sure what to expect when I got there, but it wasn't exactly as stated and the original piece lacked context.

In China, the number of new electric car registrations reached 8.1 million in 2023, Compared to the clip found 2000 EV cars in the graveyard, the answer is 1/4000 of EV cars production abandoned in the graveyard. it is a small portion of China's EV car production as rubbish.
And apart from the new cars from the foreign brands, none of these cars were new.
Its just a small graveyard. In western countries, there are tens of thousands of repo or used cars at auction yards.
Of course. They don't make headlines though, eh?
I remember visiting relatives in America in the mid-80s, and my uncle took me to a car auction where honestly in any direction, field after field, there were cars for sale. Some were Porsche some were local American but every single car of every value you could imagine as far as the eye could see
I've worked at the auctions in Dallas, cars was constantly being cycled and besides some of the repo cars, could move under their own power.

Hey no worries mate. Glad you enjoyed it.

Nice work. Sadly more and more lies pop up about EVs for the reasons we can't discuss too much.
Indeed. There's a lot of lies out there. Trust people on the ground.
These cars are all taxis or shared cars for official use. It’s not that the car doesn‘t work, but that the company goes out of business or is upgraded. If these cars were scrapped, they would have been dismantled long ago.
Exactly. They all likely work quite well. They're not as good as modern cars but some people still drive these in more rural areas and city outskirts.
I will take your video with a pinch of salt as advised.
Joking aside thanks for the video, makes a lot more sense. It still is concerning on two points however:-
1. How many places through China is that replicated and what is going to happen to the cars?
2. What happens when the next big technology jump happens and all the current EV cars become obsolete. Are the "car parks" going to be 10x bigger filled with 2021/22/23 models?
I guess that is a different story though.
If the car is good then there are people who want to buy them. If the car is crap then its vallue will drop too 0.
Subscribed for the truth 👍
Thank you very much

You're welcome.
Thank you for making the efforts to investigate this widely reported lie. Well, after watching this video, I guess we can either interpret it in several ways:
1) the positive aspect is the sheer dynamism of the Chinese entrepreneurs and EV makers as shown by the numbers of these unwanted EVs which were so quickly superseded by the next generations of EVs. In some ways, it is as if these EVs are mobile phones which became obsolete in a very short period of time
2) the competition within the public transport system must be extremely intense
3) the negative aspect (as you pointed out too) is the wastage in letting these unwanted cars sitting there idly with almost no chance of them being ever put on the road again as they are technologically so backward in comparison to the latest models. The authorities should just clear them up quickly by every means.
Nice video. Please someone in china refurbish these cars and sell them cheap in Malaysia. We need more EV's. Thanks. 👍
Maybe best to refurbish the batteries and put in nicer cars at this point.

Thank you. Yes, and that's exactly why I was curious to see how much truth there was to this story.
Thank you. So....do not trust random videos with suspect claims on UA-cam and Twitter!
Or at least do some investigating. If it sounds insane, chances are it at least isn't quite as bad as it sounds or inaccurate.
Thank you very much for your effort and determination of unveiling the truth. We all know which you-tuber was the one who posted the misleading video. He is not only evil but also absolutely disgusting, never ending lies and hate creating misleading info. Sad part is he used to live in China and sure had a decent time living there, Not sure how anyone with this kind of behaviour can sleep... I guess there is Karma and it will serve him well when time comes. Wish all his followers can find yr video here, sure there is no point linking yrs to his as he will delete immediately , but he is a sick man
I'm sure it will. I haven't watched his other stuff but I've seen the thumbnails here and there and they tell you all you need to know.
Couldn't sound like more of a CCP shill if you tried
ok...ok....China ev collapsed already.....there are at least hundreds of ev graveyards of this size everywhere in China cities.......
you be happy and go celebrate and treat yourself to a good meal....
Sadly, that same UA-camr pulls in millions of views. As such, he's likely funded by the US State Department as many popular media assets get compensated extremely well for pushing US propaganda.
Brilliant and refreshingly balanced
Thanks Daniel. Balance is what I strive to achieve. A few very of us still stick to journalistic values, at least the ones journalists are supposed to have.
Thx for giving the right context on these fields. Still a pitty as you say.
No problem.
Spot on and fabulous to see someone who knows and lives amongst the worlds biggest EV producer and gets it, as it is, thank you.
Glad you liked it. I try to keep balance in all that I do and have a desire to see both sides where I can.
Thanks for correcting some false rumors. Very interesting.
No problem.
Would have been interesting to try and figure out who owns them and how much they want for one. They seem left unlocked so they must not care too much about what happens to them, would they take a few hundred RMBs in exchange for a set of keys? 😅
Honestly, I think they probably would. I didn't have time to go around asking people, had a car to film for the day, but I'd go back.
Excellent on the ground reporting! Newly subbed!
Thank you very much.
Serpentza really is a muppet
He's making coin though, it's just the way he's doing it I'd question.
Sincere thank you for researching and telling the truth.
No problem.
👍Thank you, well done!
Cheers.
If the batteries can't be recycled, they can be made into solar energy storage batteries.
That would be a good solution.
Thanks for sorting out the $hite from the truth.
It's a dirty job, somebody has to do it.
Please make a video about the new Haval H5. I know it's an ICE, I know it's a large, heavy SUV, so not environmentally friendly at all, but it looks to be a very unique value proposition, i.e., it's dirt cheap, given all the metal Great Wall is throwing into the car! Thank you!
I'll see what I can do. I don't mind ICE or EV, I do both if they're compelling enough.
They are. We need to get a lot better at this because we're making too much, 100%.
Keep in mind, no truth can escape from China, and we Chinese are coming for you, be alarmed and scared!!!
Right. Find out the truth and release to public that can decrease the bad EV provider or manufacturer etc.
It's not so much an issue of the EV, just that China moved on at an unprecedented speed and these cars just cannot compete anymore, rendering them worthless at least in China.
