- Take a look at this unique comparison as you watch both Soarin' Over California and Soarin' Around the World in this split screen video.
You'll certainly notice that even though Around the World has more locations than California, it also boasts more transitions throughout with keeping the same runtime as the original.

I like both, but the top one will always be better, not only is the graphics less choppy, it has more interactive screens
@David Vitrano yea the transactions in the cali version are real bad. if you look at the flo version and voletarium they have some great transactions
I love how the last scene synchronizes in both versions!
Idk about the new soarin' but i remember soarin' over california had smells pumped in for certain scenes (I distinctly remember a fresh orange scent when flying over the orange grove) and it was colder when you were over the snowy mountains.

I'm conflicted, I like how diverse the music is on the around the world version, the transitions, the picture quality, the fact that the ending is NOT Christmas, etc. However over cali is superior because it shows how California is diverse, doing one about the world is, well everyone nows the world is diverse in some way.
A thing I hope that Disney will do is that in a few years they will change it up again. Keep it a certain Soarin for a few years, and then change it up like every 6-10 years. Just to keep it fresh and so it doesn't get boring. That would be nice.
Soarin' Over California will always be my favorite.

I went on Soarin over California years ago. It was one of our favorite rides. I was just in Disneyland last month and got to ride the new one, but it doesn't hold a candle to the original. I'm not sure why. Maybe it doesn't move as much anymore, or the scenes are less interesting, or the new one has too much CGI, or the music is not the same? Maybe it's everything put together, but whatever the case we were disappointed with the changes to our once favorite ride.
And I love the smell of the oranges in California and the ocean of Fiji island from both rides because I love it
Hmm, no. World doesn’t beat California. I love the land of California (not from California, but from Washington state) and the music that has been orchestrated for California!
Andrew Crocker yes me too!!! They should have both!!! I really think so! We all should write letters to Disney and demand they build another Soarin and bring back California!!!!

I think most of us do. It's unfortunate that the general public who have no idea are endorsing it without realizing how much greater the old one was. I keep hoping they'll bring it back.
It would be cool if hey could show both shows but in separate theaters. That way guest can choose which they want to take a trip on. Around the world or around the state of California.

I've sat through both multiple times and I would give the edge to Soarin Around the World. I like the way it transitions from scene to scene, but both are great.

Thanks! The idea actually came from a guest who was wondering if the new Soarin' was longer than the older.
Maybe do a comparison of the Soarin' Over California and Soarin' Around the World (from DCA) so the ending matches up even more so.
Soarin over California will always be better for 9 reasons:
1. It fits the theme of the park which is california
2. Louder and better music
3. More movement in the camera work
4. It looks like it was filmed in the summer since the sun is shining much more brighter in the majority of the locations than in around the world which looks like it was filmed in the winter
5. The loading music is actual music instead of some boring sounds of howling wind which is what around the world has to offer
6. Better smells (including the orange smell of course)
7. Better background music in the pre show video with Patrick Warburton
8. The pre show video that shows us the locations that we’re gonna visit isn’t in Indiana Jones style
9. After the ride finishes, Patrick Warburton says “On behalf of our entire flight crew, thanks for soarin with us!”
If you live in Florida, then the bottom screen is for you. If you live in California, then the top screen is for you

@@ryanmomtahan4786I think you're half right. Soarin over California should remain at Disneyland but they used to play Soarin over California at Epcot in Disney World. I think it's better that they changed it to reflect the world showcase at Epcot. Since Disney has parks all over the world I think it would be cool for every park to have a Soarin with images that were reflective of the location of each particular park.

Look at the difference between then when it was called soarin over California to nowadays soarin around the world
The music is different and soarin over California has the smell of the oranges in the field compared to around the world which takes you all over the world

I love that they decide to change things up, and when they do it like this with a musical nod to its predecessor, it's usually a job well done. I love the original, but from a tourist perspective, no one is gonna recognize any of these Californian locations. I think they did a great job with the new ride, including the new film. Not really sure what people are complaining about. The new film is great! It's exactly what they did before, just new locations with some added CGI.

I think the problem people are having is that because of the CGI it looks unrealistic and the music and flow of the old one was really well done. This one doesn't flow as well. Also when you ride it everything has kind of a curve to it ruining the illusion. It might just be me but i don't remember it curving so much on the old version.

Well, of course, but both were shot in Florida. Soarin' was a clone brought over from DCA.
Yeah. The clone from Disneyland was to show Floridians what the land of California is like and Disneyland itself, which is without a shadow of a doubt better!

I like California better for 6 reasons:
1. Louder and better music
2. Endless load music
3. Better smells
4. All of the footages in soarin over California look like they were recorded in the summer, since the lighting of the sun is MUCH brighter than the footages in around the world. It feels like they recorded around the world in the winter
5. I live in California myself
6. It fits the name of the park which is “Disney’s CALIFORNIA Adventure”
And so around the world is better for florida since the name of the Disney park in that state is “Disney WORLD”

In my opinion Soarin’ Around the WORLD should fit for a park that is located in Epcot Florida which is Disney WORLD
And besides the music is louder in Soarin’ Over California and nothing beats the smell of oranges and beaches
And also, the ride movements in Soarin’ Over California feel like they have more left and right turns than Soarin’ Around the World
And I liked the ending in Disneyland better in Soarin’ Over California because not only were the fireworks better, but we were also flying over Disneyland during Christmas.
This and your followup are the funniest comments I’ve read today, highlighting the absurdity of there being warring fandoms over such a tiny niche. Most of the World scenes are better than Cali, and the best World scenes are better than the best Cali scenes. That being said, the ride was conceived as an aerial tour of the park’s surrounding area, with the message being that not only is Disneyland itself magical, but was built in a magically diverse, epic location you may have overlooked as mundane. World loses that effect, leaving it to compete with the even more immersive VR spectacles now readily available. This is why Cali is getting all the love in here, and probably why I was underwhelmed by Cali when I first experienced it 2 decades ago in Florida.
The old one is so much better... the new movie is super poor and nowhere near Disney style
Actually the quality is about the same since they upgraded the system to a laser projection system. The former Soarin' Over California film was upgraded to this when it came back out from the refurb.
I think he meant the quality of the actual content. The projection system is good but not the new ride movie :(

"Around the World" is terrible & boring, & the music is bland.
It seems like for "Over California" they hired Hollywood Helicopter Stunt pilots who could maneuver tricks & turns, while for "Around the World" they hired less experienced pilots who only knew how to fly straight.
"Around the World" is a poorly directed imitation of its predecessor.
