I tear up everytime! why why why? How can a simple flight simulation do this? There is something so honest and sincere about the pairing of the scenes and the music in the "California" that is perfect. The music of the new "Soarin' World" just seems forced. What "World" does do better is the transitions between scenes.
This score will always be the classic. But, I mean, it's hard to top a score composed by the late, great Jerry Goldsmith.
I hear ya man. The first time I rode Soarin' Over California was September 22nd, 2001 just a week and a half after 9/11.
The jets in the desert and the flight over San Diego Naval base gave me chills.
I really miss Soarin' Over California. Soarin' World doesn't inspire the same emotion that I got from the original.
Made me cry! lol THe jets were the Thunderbirds from nearby Nellis AFB. And i used to stay at the Famcamp on Coronado Naval Base.

Me too! This was one of my favourite DLR experiences of all time. Even watching it on this video makes me feel... free... and just giddy with sheer happiness... it's pure magic

Interesting fact: The Disneyland segment was filmed during the Private Cast Member Christmas party in early December 2000 with the employees and their families only. I know, I was there. I remember seeing the IMAX camera helicopter flying over us during the filming.
I was there too!!! I remember my dad explaining what the helicopter was going to be doing in the car. Whenever I would ride this I’d be like “I’m down there somewhere!”

In this time of sheltered-in-place with the Happiest Place on Earth closed for two weeks and now "until further notice", I just enjoyed a virtual Disney experience. I'm now inspired to take my family to a virtual Disneyland today! Thanks Phillip!
Wish i found this during covid
This ride really helps back up my love for aviation and flying! It really shows how amazing seeing these places from the air is!
What really gets me is that I experienced uncomplicated joy on this ride. I experienced true joy, no worries, no “but if”s, nothing. I am looking an my hands right now counting experiences like this and there are five fingers up, and three of them are this ride.
I am literally crying.
I get goosebumps seeing this ride again, almost teared up how amazing this version was!

Soarin’ remains the only canned (non-kive) attraction in all the Disney parks that consistently gets spontaneous applause. Disney needs to build more attractions like this and less cheap Pixar LED and laser shows.
Thank you for this. I went on this ride when it first came out and had no words except "awesome" I had to find the music to it right away, and still listen to it to this day when I go for a run or just driving in my car.

We need more people to yell at Disney not only to bring back soarin over California, but ALSO bring back this amazing ass video quality for it!!!!!!!
This is what made me choose Paramotoring over general aviation, been chasing the high of this ride ever since I first was on it at 5 years old.
I finally found it, and it helps that I actually fly in California as well, lol.
The CGI in the new version just kills it for me, with fake elephants, kites etc...Soarin' Over California had some fake things, but it wasn't as obvious. Why can't they show both the old and the new? Maybe have even more experiences, like Star Tours? Bring back SoC.
Maybe have different terminals be different experiences? Then again, Soarin Round the World will always have a walk on, and over CA would be an hour...
Personally, I think Disney should have Over California brought back. Exclusively for the Disney World and Disneyland versions. They should have one of the theaters play Around the World while the other one plays Over California. And I think that since the one at Epcot has 3 theaters, they should add a third version called Soarin’ Across America and as the name suggests, it goes on a tour of the United States from West to East.

The Across America version would use a mix of CGI and live action like the previous 2. And also, it would use the entire soundtrack of Over California, parts of Around the World’s soundtrack, and its own sections. It would also be considerably longer (6-8 minutes compared to 4-5 minutes for the other 2).

Between the photography and that incredible Goldsmith score, this ride provides the most powerful sustained emotional high in the entire resort.
Born and raised in Las Vegas. My mom side of the family is all over California and I've been fortunate to visit half of these places still like to go to Yosemite and Lake Tahoe!! This is my favorite ride at California Adventures it always tears me up.

When I was little this was one of my favorite rides, my dad and I used to always pretend to try to catch the golf ball and in the desert scene we’d always slap our hands on our thighs pretending to be horses! And the scene with the beach at sunset was always my favorite

Apparently, when this was introduced as "Soarin" at EPCOT, some guests assumed these clips were from different parts of the US: New England, the Great Plains, the Rockies, the Southwest, the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, etc. Despite it's challenges, the Golden State is still pretty amazing.

Disney should do that with the source video. Sure, it wouldn't look quite as good on a VR headset as it does on a 4K IMAX screen, but it would still be nice.
Edit: Actually, they should do this with all of their not-currently-running movie-style attractions. CircleVision VR would be great.
Disney is sorely missing out by not jumping on the VR platform. Plenty of peoples have Oculus Rifts and HTC Vive's, and we're desperately looking for that sort of theme park magic on our headsets.
The main draw of VR is that it's 3D, you have one screen for each eye so you can get a 3D feel. They captured this footage with a 180-degree fisheye lens, the question is if when they were filming they had the foresight to use two cameras side-by-side to capture the visuals in 3D.
Oh, probably not. But still, even if it were flat, it would be really nice.

Soarin' Around the World... what a bummer. The CGI transitions, the new locations, the cheesy Indiana Jones-style map preshow, the absence of load music which was replaced by howling wind... and worst of all, the way the music was edited. They tried to make it sound cultural and fit in with the different locations, but the new music is just flat and boring... please, did you really have to mess with this ride? Bring back the original!
The only I'd say I sorta like is the transitions. I admit, I always thought it was a bit weird that the scenes just flipped with no sort of cohesiveness. While the CGI ones like the bird and plane I feel don't fit well, the fades used in the scenes on the ocean and the Taj Mahal really do work well.

The transitions are so in your face and annoying. I love the harsh cuts. They're actually way more relaxing.
The new Soarin' is horrible, I miss the California one! For all this hellhole state does wrong, and for all the problems we have with illegals, government, budget, crooked politicians, etc. there are some truly amazing places, and Soarin' painted those places in a beautiful picture! I won't go on the new one anymore, it's just not the same.
Jerry Goldsmith made the best soundtrack for this attraction especially when it involves aviation

Add-on to my comment: Frankly, can we even call this a ride? This is more of a experience! The sounds, the smells, the sights! It just all comes together to make the Beautiful experience called Soarin over California, dear Disney bring back Soarin over California.

Disney needs to bring back the Circlevision/Circarama movies (to Disneyland) -- originally based in Tomorrowland. They can be much more immersive than the Soarin' films -- although Disney needs to upgrade the technology to video -- without the join lines -- from the old projected versions.

3:08 I love being able to live here, though sad to say Camarillo doesn’t smell as good as the ride :/ it’s sad I’ve never been able to ride this since they first removed it, I really hope to ride it again someday cause this ride is way better then Around the World

Why change it when it was already perfect? All that newer technology they had for Soarin' Around The World and it looks so fake at times where Soarin' Over California always feels real, even when watching it here.
Lake Tahoe is in Nevada
