Incra and Jessem are about the only wood working products I will buy without worrying about the quality. The incra Mast-r-Lift is a great combination of the Jessem (I believe) with incra innovation. No retarded button needed to release the plate, and no special tool needed, because they are magnetic. They also have a version of the plates that are ventilated to allow the shavings to be vacuumed out through the plate.
I have found a lot of the products Rockler sells are not only Harbor Freight quality at best, but many times they are rebranded versions of the exact same thing harbor freight sells at a marked up price.

Good review :) I have never used the Rockler, but I have the Jessem Mast-R lift for Incra and it's amazing. So heavy duty, so smooth and so precise. It's a work of art. Have a Porter Cable 3-1/4" motor and it does just about anything. The Jessem is a pleasure to use. Plus Incra has magnetic plates, even better than a "button" :)

IMHO, Jessem makes some quality stuff. I have their lift and stock guides (both table saw and router). Love them. My biggest complaint about the Rockler... it is not a "standard" size plate and does not fit many available router tables tops like my cast iron extension table for my table saw. They kind of lock you into buying their tables. I like my stuff to be of standard sizing so I can mix and match parts.

    Thanx for an honest review.
Just like you said I would have preferred "high prestige" aluminum inserts to "workmanlike" plastic. But, as you pointed out.. it does not actually matter in practice.
Several years ago, my local Woodcraft store had the JessEm Router lift II on sale for $100 less) I could not see a reason to not get the JessEm. In the end I have been very satisfied with my JessEM router lift, and seeing your review convinces me I made the right choice. I spent less money for a superior product.

I purchased the Kreg router table with fence system. I reviewed many router lift systems and decided to go with Rockler Pro Lift Router Lift - 9-1/4'' x 11-3/4'' Large Router Plate. This was a $400 purchase, but looked to be the best built lift. As I tried to bring the combination together the Rockler plate fit the Kreg table just fine. Now for the problems. I had an older Ridgid 2.5 hp router with variable speed. It did not fit the Rockler Pro Lift Router Lift. After many phone calls I was told I needed to purchase an adaptor, I made an additional purchase. I called Rockler tech support when my router still did not fit. I was told to widen the base and fit the router with adaptor in. While on phone to tech support the base plate "cracked" broke when enlarging too much. I packaged the whole system up and sent it back to Amazon. I then purchased the Kreg router lift system, {locally} which did allow my Ridgid router to fit with no problems. The Kreg router lift works smoothly and has no problems.

I would never buy another phenolic insert plate. I got the $250 kreg router table and the plate was terribly bowed to the center. Had them send a replacement "precision" router plate. Still bowed. Couldn't even flatten them out with a CNC machine since they warped after cutting. Save yourself the hassle and get a beefy aluminum or steel version and check it with a straight edge before installing.

I failed to point that out in the video, but each of these lifts come with a guide bushing. It threads into the router plate and provides a point of contact for the material. You touch the material to the guide bushing and then pivot the material into the bit. Having a leverage point allows you to move the material into the bit at a slow and controlled rate as opposed to just moving the material with your hands. But I must say, you have a very keen eye!!!

MLCS Woodworking has had a motorized lift for many years. Its hard to believe people still buy crank handle lifts when you can get a lift that accurately moves in .001" increments, has the ability to store position locations, can bring the router up to bit change position with the press of a button, can do plunge operations using the foot pedal, and on and on.

Rockler is expensive compared to other router lifts especially if its restricted to rockler units, I love kreg, jessem has many units choice becomes a problem and shipping to Uganda from Canada is way out of order.

I know what you mean about adjusting but depth on the Rocker lifts. For the kind of money they charge for those you would think they would be better built.🙄

I do agree with that statement, but all in all it is a decent router lift that I am able to make work for me. The bill is a little steep for sure.

It would scare me to death to somehow accidentally press that button, and ring pops up with raised panel bit spinning at 10000 RPM. It wouldn't be pretty. Surprised there is not a safety cover for that button.

Totally agree with that though- as was thinking the same. Router dust building up in cavity and the pushing wood along bit…….. boom- ring comes up and I don’t like to be thinking of that happening. Routers are scary enough.

Dam, I am getting ready to buy the Rockler because I have a Rockler top, the opening is the 8.25. I always liked the Jessel better but routing additional inch on top is scary. Problem is that I have the Dewalt 616 and now u tell me it is a issue… DAM IT!!

I had replied to another comment earlier today, and with as much great stuff as Rockler makes, I’m wondering if the issues didn’t stem from the routers. I think I’ll try and get my hands on a few other brands and see if the issue persists

@@FirstFruitsDesignCo Ok so Rockler is telling me that the DW616 should have come with a "plastic shim" in the box that is used to make this router fit. I looked in the box, still have it, no plastic piece. I reached out to DW repair center and the guy could not find.
