    This week, we visit the beautiful home of Valerie and Leon and their furry friend, Maple. Situated in Kovan, this inter-terrace landed house has a land area of 1,700 sq ft and a built-up of 2,200 sq ft, and underwent a renovation that cost under $200,000.
    The home has two floors, with the living, dining, kitchen, and yoga room on the first floor and three bedrooms on the second. The theme of the house, stone, wood, cream, and the flow of the house with its ventilation blocks and glass panels, make it a bright and inviting space, surprising for an inter-terrace home that often has a reputation for being darker.
    The entrance has been beautifully redesigned with a dedicated foyer area, featuring an arch glass and wood laminated ceilings. The couple was hands-on throughout the renovation process, making sure that every detail was just right, including keeping the ceiling high to make the space feel more spacious. The large format 90x90 stone-like slabs for the floor add to the spacious feel.
    There was originally a wall separating the dining and the kitchen, which was hacked, but a column prevented further hacking. The couple came up with a creative solution by building ventilation blocks. The wet kitchen, which was originally outdoors, was closed up and made more practical with bi-fold doors that can be folded away to segregate the space.
    The backyard was a garden with a rambutan tree but was transformed into a peaceful Japanese zen garden. Valerie and Leon enjoyed being hands-on throughout the renovation process and it shows in the attention to detail in every room.
    Special thanks to Valerie and Leon for opening up their home to us! For more, please visit: / flowhabitat

    Would love to see small spaces such as 2-room flats being renovated. It is easier to renovate a big house with a big budget but a small house with a big reno budget doesn't mean easy because of space constraints. Houses are getting smaller and smaller worldwide, especially in cities. It should be much more interesting to see how small houses are done.

      im quite shocked the external walls are replaced with full length windows (facing the car porch)... theres a reason why you don't see full length windows in alot of landed houses in Singapore. There is a greenhouse effect and you don't even need to have the sun coming in directly into the window to feel this in Singapore.

    The house looks pleasing to the eye but it’s so sterile. Not even a hint of colour. Everything is white, off-white or beige. It’s also sad that they cemented their garden and put a very cheap looking fountain from Taobao instead. So many people would kill to have a garden of their own😅Most tropical plants can survivor on their own with minimal supervision. It’s so funny that they said they don’t have time for gardening but they bought a lot of indoor plants and yet most of the plants are placed in areas without sunlight. How often would you eat or drink outside of your house when Singapore is either too hot, too humid or too wet throughout the year? I have an outdoor garden too and rarely I would let my guests stay outside. It’s just too humid in a tropical country.
    The only commendable design I like is the extended glass archway. The rest is just lacking any personality. It’s a very cookie cutter design trend. Let’s buy all the furniture in beige and call it a day.

    • @creamflower
      @creamflower Рік тому +2

      Agreed. The easy trendy choice now is to go for the white black theme or muted tones because it's so easy. But their blank canvas of muted colors can be enhanced by adding some colors, they can lean on any color actually but they failed to take advantage of that so it just looks like a plain boring canvas. I also agree with you on the garden. They could have just left it to bring more shade to cool the yard area and they had a rambutan tree. Like that could have been kept as part of the history of the house in the area. Now it's just concrete reflecting more heat to bounce of the environment. Kinda sad.

    • @daxpapa
      @daxpapa Рік тому

      Agree about the garden situation which seems very strange... The choice of color palette, though is personal so it's unfair to criticize. Working in finance and tech in Singapore must have been quite hustling and stressful so even more understandable why the couple would love a calm, monotonous and uncontentious visual at home.

      1. Lol "Joined Feb 6, 2023".
      2. You are right. The 80% of Singaporeans who live in HDBs should really learn some "hard work and good financial planning". That must be exactly why none of them have "achieved" a private property.
      3. This is a miniature, original condition, old inter-terrace located in the outskirts of Singapore (D19) and internally looks like every other typical "ID-ed to death" HDB - hardly anything to brag about - your "friends" should try to achieve something substantial in their lives and learn some humility...
      ...and while they are at it, maybe also learn to communicate properly...but, actually, that might, in nature, not actually be actually possible as they actually seem so basic and attention-seeking in nature...actually.
      P.S. For those who might feel even the slightest bit of envy after watching the video, do remember that homeowners voluntarily chose to showcase (or brag about) their homes to you and that it is actually quite sad, if you think about the likely psychology underlying that motivation: www.psychmechanics.com/people-who-show-off/.

      Yeah…was gonna say. It’s pleasant for sure … and en trend in sg right now judging from home tour/Reno vids of sg homes on UA-cam. Scandi-ish mixed with boho… with a dash of Scandinavian mid century modern (esp the colour palate - sans colour tho). No prints/patterns, texture and contrast … ie…very little “movement”. IMO … why it could look tired/sterile is perhaps it lacks some drama and excitement. I see more and more small boutiques in the heartlands and a few cafes in Joo Chiat having this style. Most ppl love it but soon it will be everywhere. That’s when it will get really tired.
