This is a squad of NCO’s being trained as drill instructors. If you look closely the headgear, berets, hackles and even lanyards differ. Indian Army regiments follow the traditions of dress etc as taught by the British Army. The pace stick is to teach soldiers to march with 30” steps. Quick March is 120 steps per minute, except that ‘Rifle and Light Infantry’ units march at 140 steps per minute. We learnt a lot from the British, nothing to be ashamed about that. It is what it is. My apologies to any Brit soldier or otherwise. No insult was intended. Sometimes, ignorance rears it’s ugly head.
In Pakistan Army, also inherited from British Army is still practiced to train drill instructors, later when a competition was held of pace drill, Pakistan Army contingent outclassed the rest of the participating countries, incl India.
what looks funny in the eyes of civilians is actually taken seriously by the military. you get corporal punishment for smiling on parade. military personnel take each and every step very seriously. even if the audience laughs, they learn to control their thoughts and not laugh
As a Pakistani soldier...i have a huge respect for them....because we think there are two types of peoples exist in the world "1 we are soldiers and 2nd those who are not soldiers"...good budies Love from 🇵🇰.
Great respect for these guys, very well disciplined and accurate, but can I just respectfully enquire if there is any long term affects on the back/joints/pelvis marching like this ?
Jonathan P no, actually under the boots there are 13 toe nails and under the heel there is a horseshoe shaped toe plate. These are placed under the boots to act as shock absorbers
@@bharathsmenon8508 thanks for the reply, I'm ex military and I have severe back pain and I wondered if it could be related to slamming my heels down when on parade
Jonathan P my pleasure sir. Also thank you for your service sir. Sir, may I please enquire which country’s army you are from and which regiment you are ? I am trying to get into the Indian Army so I like to listen to stories from people in the military
Somebody is sending furious replies in every other comment and then has the audacity of saying "not interested" Well, that's a good pose in the display picture of yours. I need that obedient face of yours and a crisp salute when i obliterate your army into another 1971 POW situation.
Is this the presentation of the saw horse drill? Each man has one end of a saw horse and I guess the top rail has a different group to complete the assembly. Kinda like home a home improvement show, military style.
Awesome drill, but it could be made better if their equipment was up to standard! 4th man in the center rank, at 0:26 you can see the sole of his right boot is tied on with string! That said, he did a good job despite the handicap!
I’m pretty sure you have got the virus, because you have clearly lost your sense of taste,sight.....oops a new symptom spotted-loss of sense of hearing! I’ll pray for your speedy recovery.
DRILL IS THE BEDROCK OF DISCIPLINE. EXCELLENT TURNOUT AND DISCIPLINE WITH EXCELLENT DRILL. EXCELLENT AND EXEMPLARY WORD OF COMMAND. HIGH MORAL. GIVEN NEXT HIGHER PROMOTIONS .👏🇮🇳🙏
Some of the moves look strange to British army soldiers but there is no denying their smartness or precision. No matter how you judge or who you compare them with, these guys are good.
Yes it comes from the days of the British Raj and both the Indians and Pakistanis are enjoying this as part of their history.which will be remembered in 500 years time. This is history in the making now. Shabash to you warriors.
Because these events feature armies from relatively less militaristic countries like those from Middle East. Indian Army was not competing there. This is the kind of drill of Indian Army you guys would be competing against IF Indian Army was involved in that competition. ua-cam.com/video/Y2xXtmopwtQ/v-deo.html
Sharp drill, well disciplined body of men, but the exaggerated check-step, the almost goose-step that the boys break into as they march on isn't a Commonwealth thing, smacks far more of the Chinese/Russians/Germans.... which is kinda disappointing in a way i can't quite define... Nevertheless, a credit to themselves, their service and the nation
NO IT ALSO A COMMONWEALTH THING THIS IS THE WAY THEY ARE TAUGHT HOW TO MARCH . CHECK OUT THE SAME DRILL ON FORCES TV FOR CANADIANS AND SCOT SOLDIERS DOING IT!!!
This isnt even a Russian/Chinese/Wehrmacht goosestep either, traditional goosestep involves bringing the knee up first, then extending the leg straight on the way down. Here the leg is straightened on the way up and stays straight until the foot hits the ground again. Its been 73 years since independence, the Indians now have their own styles and traditions in place.
Hasn’t always been this way .. marching pattern has changed over the past few decades in India and it is apparent when you compare the marching of infantry contingents upto to 170s-80s at the Republic day parades , with more recent ones ... Bit of a pity really .. too stiff and awkward
this is one of the most beautiful traditions of the military. It helps the contingent to march straight and march perfect.
Very smart. It's nice to see some elements of British drill still live on in India. I loved India and hope one day to return.
