in my country, Ford means "unreliable ticking time bomb transmission waiting to blow engine waiting to burn down junk" because they forgot about the People Of Michigan who made them what they are.
The Ford Kuga (at least for my country's car market) is by far the best value for money choice you could get for a mid sized SUV. Within 35k Euros you can have the 2.0 Diesel with 190 HP, decent acceleration and almost perfect steering around corners with little to no rolling effect. Also it has every single specification you could get on a mid ranged, nonpremium car, while still paying this (relatively small) amount of money and receiving up to 7 years of warranty. A Skoda Karoq (which is the correct competitor of the Kuga) with the same specs would be around 42k Euros, while less fun to drive and with only 4 years of warranty. The same goes for Seat Ateca, albeit it is similar fun to drive. And last but not least, the VW Tiguan would cost you a small fortune of at least 50k Euros to reach the same level of specs, which ain't worth it. If you are able to spend 50 to 55k Euro on a Tiguan, you should just go for a mid specs Q5 which offers a completely different feeling than an overpriced VW. The asians are doing pretty fine as competitiors, but their cars are a little bit more expensive for the same specs and the in-built quality could be questionable, besides Mazda CX-5 which shares some common ground with the Kuga anyway, but has better interior quality even for the rear seats (at a higher price tag).

The bonnet release mechanism needs to be positioned or redesigned so that it can be operated in the event of a power failure, or else put manual locks on both front doors to allow them to be opened in the event of a power failure.

Idk why he is talking about the Kodiaq as if it where Kuga's competition. The direct segment competitor is in fact the Karoq. Perhaps British people are not able to buy that model, but you can't compare the almost 5 m long Kodiaq to a 4.6 m Kuga and expect them to be evenly matched in cargo volume. Also, the Kodiaq is a much more expensive car, starting from 40k Euros with a decent package of car specs, while the Kuga is available with every spec available for this class, with 35-36k Euros. I recently test drove the PHEV and I wasn't hugely impressed: it felt really heavy and the gearbox sounded like it was forgetting to change gear. It seemed to hold onto high revs for too long. The brakes were inconsistent too. One minute they were sharp and responsive, but the next time they felt like there was excess travel. That said, the 1.5 petrol manual 150bhp seemed to have none of those issues. Maybe it's just the hybrid?
I think this video was made some while ago, possibly because of the PHEV fire problem with the defective battery packs fitted. Some details were missed in the range like the 2.5 hybrid engine only, Self-parking options and Ford pass app to name a few. Possibly, 2 separate videos would have been more informative. The Petrol/Diesel and the MHEV/Hybrid/PHEV vehicles in the range.

A Skoda Kodiak isn’t a competitor to this, a Skoda Karoq would be. What’s the point of saying the Kodiak boot is bigger? Of course it’s bigger as it’s a bigger car a class above this.
My question is: Is phev a good choice if I drive mostly highwai at around 100 km/h? My work is 45 km away and most of that is highway where speed limit is either 90 or 110 kmh.
@@lucaparker1084 This is the PHEV-model and its batteries supplied by Samsung were defective and first had to be replaced by Ford, which is why the PHEV was taken out of the range until the beginning of this year. Maybe that's why Ford didn't want the video released any earlier.
So once again you’re complaining about windows in the back not completely going down. But if you pay close attention, all of the cars on which the back windows completely go down have a splitted window frame since otherwise because of the wheel arches there simply isn’t enough room for the windows to disappear completely... On most cars those splitters ruin the design, for instance at the Peugeot 508 where they ruin the Coupé door style. Other than that again a most enjoyable review thanks Matt :)
Just out of curiosity, when you created the ideal Kuga, you selected Diesel, but why? I've seen a few people say get Diesel on a car, but don't understand why not normal petrol, considering it's more environmental and cheaper to run, especially now...
My 1.5 petrol performed very economically on a mostly uphill 1500km run through Europe - 6.5 litres per 100km. Not as bad as I thought and a damn comfy car to drive.
@@tomozagreb Hi. Travelling at a solid 125 km/h from Gdansk, Poland, to Zupanija in Croatia, with some 80 km/h stretches in Slovakia and Croatia, around 6.2 litres per 100km.
What was the actual EV range you got Matt and what was that 2.5L like when driving when not running in EV mode. How big a fast charger can it take. Seems a bit big as an engine to run as a PHEV. A smaller diesel engine would have been useful considering FORD is selling 3 diesel engines so its not really dumping that fuel source and engine type
It has been really popular in Denmark since early 2020 (still the 2021 model). Especially the phev version because it is the far cheapest, because of the tax system.
Surprised to see it come with a spare wheel. Most modern cars come with repair kits which are useless when the tyre is beyond repair or the alloy is damaged.
So impressed with the Plug in hybrid I ordered one last August but it still has not been delivered - shockingly bad customer service from Ford Italy. Really looking forward to its arrival with fantastic panorama roof
The previous Ford Kuga SUV in South Africa recently had a mass recall because they all burst into flames. In fact someone died, subject to a court case.
The fancy VAG screens are all very well when they work. My October 2019 Arteon has been off the road for a total of 4 weeks now with Sat Nav/Telephony/ sign recognition failures. Out of the 3 year warranty this would be ruinously expensive.
Just Purchased the ST-Line in Oz. Slightly differently spec’d to the model you tested. Particularly the engine, ours has 2.0L Turbo with 250hp and 390nm, so it’s quite feisty and would give a few hot hatches a decent run between the lights I reckon.
@@CarMasteronly years ago, pretty average, noting that Ford Australia has a very different history to Ford in Europe. But these days - other than the Getrag dry clutch dual clutch transmission debacle - the reliability of the cars is considered (by anecdotal reputation, not facts) as middle of the road - not as good as Japan’s best, but way better than say VW. As a company Ford Australia used to have very poor customer service, especially where warranty issues were concerned, however they responded very positively to punitive intervention by Australia’s regulators a few years ago, and now offer a very high level of customer service generally. Ford’s biggest problem in Australia is that they are considered the company that sells only Rangers these days, as the Australian market is absolutely obsessed with light truck utilities
That’s because this is the ST-Line X, which we don’t get. Ford Australia needed to bring it in at a very sharp price point to gain any interest against the established players in this scheme, so they didn’t specify things like the upgraded leather and Alcantara seats, electric seat adjustment, sunroof, etc on this model. It’s a pity, but it really is exceptionally cheap here - this level of engine spec were it available would be around AUD70k in the UK, were it available, and not much less on the Continent where Ford is considered to be in the same league as VW is here, so people don’t understand what an absolute bargain this car is here!
@@sjb2471 thanks a lot man! Its the same story somewhat in India. Just replace pickup trucks with SUVs. Just one more thing.... Is the 2.0 ecoblue diesel proving to be reliable? I mean I don't expect 3.2l like reliability, but still, is it proving out to be good?

Hi, Mat I whould love to see a review about the new toyota touring sports made by you. I wanna know the difrence between the combi vs hatchback. Thank you very much!
Ford shouldn't have removed the petrol/AWD option that was on the last model or use a CVT auto (the rest of the range use TC's i think) -- why does the diesel get to have AWD? Seems the same sales team at Ford thought this was a good idea, as the ones that thought removing the 1.5 182PS Ecoboost engines from the Focus range would be a benefit -- and they wonder why sales have tanked. Not everyone likes a wee 1L engine in a heavy car. It would be great if they did an ST version, but unlikely to happen due to EU emission regs to use the 2.3L engine.

I'm a proud owner of a 66 plate Titanium X Kuga and would love to see a comparison video of all the Kuga model's from when it first came out.
Thank for reviewing realistic car's. 👌
Do you like that car?
Is it the facelifted Mk2 Kuga

Yes, love the car.

A Skoda Kodiak isn’t a competitor to this, a Skoda Karoq would be. What’s the point of saying the Kodiak boot is bigger? Of course it’s bigger as it’s a bigger car a class above this.

Had the st line x 2.l awd about a month now. Can't complain so far
My question is: Is phev a good choice if I drive mostly highwai at around 100 km/h? My work is 45 km away and most of that is highway where speed limit is either 90 or 110 kmh.
Finally you made the review on it
The review was made a long time ago but it is just uploaded now
Why did they upload so late?? normally when a new car comes out they try to get it out as soon as possible.
@@lucaparker1084 This is the PHEV-model and its batteries supplied by Samsung were defective and first had to be replaced by Ford, which is why the PHEV was taken out of the range until the beginning of this year. Maybe that's why Ford didn't want the video released any earlier.

Thats every car I've ever owned it there. Had Nissan and Toyota and had a boot release/petrol cap release leaver on the driver side.
It kinda reminds me of a Aston Martin DBX...
They should bring back the Capri as a sporty SUV

Just out of curiosity, when you created the ideal Kuga, you selected Diesel, but why?
I've seen a few people say get Diesel on a car, but don't understand why not normal petrol, considering it's more environmental and cheaper to run, especially now...
My 1.5 petrol performed very economically on a mostly uphill 1500km run through Europe - 6.5 litres per 100km. Not as bad as I thought and a damn comfy car to drive.
If you still have a Kuga today, what is its average fuel consumption?

Especially the phev version because it is the far cheapest, because of the tax system.
same in the uk, I was surprised on how little tax I have to pay on this car.
Have they fixed the oil leak which led to spontaneous fires?
Oil leak? Never heard about that on phev/fhev. Only the battery fault 😋
Surprised to see it come with a spare wheel. Most modern cars come with repair kits which are useless when the tyre is beyond repair or the alloy is damaged.
Why have you posted this now?? It’s at least 2 years old.. and the Kuga PHEV scandal would have made Ford hide under the duvet! Weird
Nice review of the Escape! Decent little suv.
So impressed with the Plug in hybrid I ordered one last August but it still has not been delivered - shockingly bad customer service from Ford Italy. Really looking forward to its arrival with fantastic panorama roof
I think the previous generation Kuga had a better interior, it looked less cheap.
Flamingly cool!
The previous model was hot too but this one is quite heated,
The previous Ford Kuga SUV in South Africa recently had a mass recall because they all burst into flames.

Hi! Just wanted to ask what is the general reliability overview of Ford in Oz? If you can detail it, it'll be more helpful

Hopefully this Kuga won't burst into flames like the previous one did🙄
Battery faulty. Nothing more 😅😋. All batteries will be replaced in all Escape's/Kuga's.
I have a question. Is it bad to plug in a phev everytime you stop driving? So the battery is always charging? Also is it bad to keep a phev charging for long amounts of time?

I wouldn't mind if the WRC started using crossovers if this sort of thing would compete
Well, that's definitely better than if it completely dies out
Hey Matt: QUESTION. If an ICE vehicle can have an alternator that recharges the battery as the car goes FORWARD, why can't electric vehicles do the same???????????
I KNEW IT! Ever since the Škoda Octavia review i knew there will be a review on this car. (Check the Octavia video to see why ;)

Hi Matt, I was looking forward to the new Kuga as had the old 2ltr 4wd to pull my caravan. Was very disappointed when I found out the PHEV was not 4wd and that with a 2.5 ltr petrol was very poor for towing. I've also heared they have had issues with the charging systems, not sure how true this was?
if the gearbox is a CVT can you tow with it, CVT and towing restrictions were why we got rid of our prius and didn't get another hybrid
