My dad did this for us growing up, to help teach the value of "doing things yourself." Homemade breakfast sandwiches and burgers always taste better and tend to be a bit healthier. Love that you did this video!
We don't have a McDonald's close by, but have a Stewart's Shop which sells breakfast sandwiches for close to 5.00 a piece. And my growing grandson would want 2.... So I started to make them at home. For close to 3.00 I could make him 2! And he said they were better and made with LOVE!!!.
I literally just made my own bacon mcmuffin at home this morning BEFORE this video posted. Started making my own during the pandemic. It’s pretty easy.
I made them just last week. I never thought to make them using the lids...great tip. Thank you. If I'm in a hurry i will make a quick omelet and just cut them up to fit the english muffins. Thank you loved it.😊
I'm impressed!! The BEST TIP I HAVE EVER GOTTEN FROM YOU was NOTcutting the end of my onion my eyes never tear up and actually makes cooking your dish more enjoyable. Really enjoyed this video. I make your Taco Soup all the time. ❤
All true but you didn’t pay anyone to make it or take your order. How much gas did you use to cook yours?....agree that if you have a large family definitely more cost effective
I'm up in Canada and McD has a 2 for $5 deal here. Usually, it's almost $5 EACH here! The sugar content of the sausage is higher in the McD one. Making it yourself is usually cheaper ;) Heather xo
The only other addition is McD's labor costs. They have additional "costs of doing business" they pass on to the consumer, which also drive up the costs. Homemade is always best, I think. I like the idea of using the jar lids to contain the eggs. Chad, you did a fantastic job! Love it!
Oh my word, DELICIOUS. I have been doing this for years and in fact I saved the sack and would make them for my children and they had no clue it wasnt McDs. Our very poor and frugal days. Great memories. Thank you so much for reminding me of them.
IWonderful blog!! I would love to see vlogs cost and time analysis of a frosted home sheet cake vs boxed mix & canister of premade frosting and homemade pudding vs boxed. Brownie mix vs homemade too!!
I always make my own for my husband and I always wrap them separate and freeze them, he loves them. I don't eat eggs, but with this pandemic we've been eating almost every meal at home, I'm not sure my guy will ever want to go out and eat again especially for easy breakfast foods. Thanks for sharing and for giving us the price breakdown.
Use to make these all the time. Great money saver and knew the kids loved them and had breakfast when I was working. Also made the breakfast burritos to switch it up some.
This is such a great idea!!! I have a big family and I really think my kids will like this. I loved chads idea to freeze them! Where did you get your cast iron skillet Jennifer? Thanks guys!! ❤️
I have done my own “Sausage McMuffins” for years. Saves a lot of money. I’m working on perfecting the Big Mac sandwich. Not there yet. Have a blessed and joyful week.❤️
I love to see you both together and cook en laugh it makes me happy! Such nice people. My daughter said to me "mum you can not bake every week I'm taking to much weight! She loves the bread, the buns and adores the lemon cookies! Lots of love from Myriam, Antwerp (Belgium) 😘
This was so fun to watch. Both of you do such a great job. Maybe once a month you could do this again trying your recipes to take out. Loved it. Have a blessed day.
Hi Jennifer, this video popped up today, as suggested. Oh how I miss you! I especially miss your cooking and having Chad be the sampler 😊 I hope you consider doing more videos, even if you leave off the comments. You are such a light in the world. Love from NY
I fried 6 sausage patties and toasted 6 English muffins, scrambled 6 eggs (divided them), layered 1 slice of cheese on each muffin, wrapped them in wax paper, placed all six sandwiches in a gallon size freezer bag and placed in freezer. A few days later, I got one out, I defrosted it in the m/w and I thought I’d been to McD’s. Thx Chad, for the idea. Saves time and less clean-up by doing it all at once. I would’ve given you 10 thumbs up if I was allowed but could only do it once. 🤣
I'm never able to ever do a great sunny side up. You did such a great job. What's ur recipe. Do you use butter and water. Or just water. What were those round things around the egg. It looks like a Mason jar cover. I'm so impressed. I want an English mc muffin right now. I'll make one in the morning. It's almost 2 AM here right now. Can't sleep.
love watching you guys s videos . it always gives me little cooking tricks like re using jar lids to shape the eggs or corn stratch for the cookies recipee . i always learn from you. god bless , muh love from france
We make these all the time. Our kids love them. Wheather it’s breakfast, lunch, or a quick dinner, there’s usually at least one being made everyday. Our 6 and 9 year old can do it on their own! We don’t always have sausage in the house so we fry a piece of balogna or even ham as a substitute. Such a good, filling meal...or snack.
Here in the UK I've been eating McDonald's sausage and egg Mcmuffins for 30 years. I never get tired of them. I ration myself to one or two a month, no more. And for the past 5 years I've been making my own version just like you did in the video. There are a couple of differences. I fry the egg in a blini pan (very small pan), then flip it. I've experimented with the water bath method, which is how McDonald's do it, but I get better results with a blini pan and no water. The yolk is broken just the same, though. The other thing is, English muffins here are prescored and you're supposed to tear them in half, NOT use a knife! Tearing them gently in half leaves both halves with a bumpy, knobbly surface that adds to the texture when toasted. Use the tines of a fork to gently go round the muffin along the prescored line. However, muffins made in the US may be slightly different. Finally, the wrap. This is not just to hold the muffin while eating it, but is intended to keep the heat in for a minute or two to help the cheese melt. I did get a bunch of wraps from Amazon, but when they were gone I started using thin kitchen foil instead. So I wrap the muffin and place it in a warm conventional (not microwave!) oven for a few minutes. Over here we usually get a hash brown with the muffin, forming a so-called Mcmuffin Meal, which also includes a white coffee all for £3.59. I get my frozen sausage patties from Tesco or Aldi.
Loved this cost analysis so much!! It's crazy how much more we pay for the convenience... But seeing y'all do this so easily makes me realize... I'd much rather just buy the ingredients and make it myself! I don't particularly like going out often anyways, especially just to sit in a drive thru. Thx so much! Always looking for ways to cut costs. 🙌 Much love from FL! P. S. I think we are all looking forward to Chad's retirement as well, so we can see both of your lovely faces more often!
I make them on the weekend and freeze like you suggested. My husband and I love having the convenience of grabbing breakfast. Also we live in a small town would need to drive over 20 miles to McDonald's. So that is just a thing if we are traveling and left home before breakfast. Great video please make more like this 💜
We have a little egg McMuffin maker at home, I’ve gone thru 2 in the last 10 years..... it was a blessing when our now 18 year old (our youngest) was little! He could make his own warms sandwiches when mama was at work! Anyways, we love our little McMuffin maker 💕❤️🙏
tHANKS FOR DOING THE MATH !! I would love to see one of home made bread vs store or bakery bread. We know who wins on flavor fresh from the oven !! lol By the way , am I the only one who cannot get the cookbook to print? I am in Fredericksburg. VA Ward. Love your site. Your love for each other just glows.THANK YOU BOTH .
Loved this video! It is easy to see how much you could save by just eating at home! And I love the idea of pitting some in the freezer and using them as needed!
Awesome idea! But Jennifer-didn't get your opinion on which was better?!? 🥰 My husband's second retirement is THIS year and we both just can not wait!! He deserves his fishing boat and rv for lake searches for sure!! Worked for us since he was 17 years old! 🥰 I am one blessed and lucky wife! Be blessed! 💛💛
I always make these when we go to our camp for a few days. They are delicious, especially when you are outdoors a lot! SOOO... it only costs $4.59 for six (b/c of Eng. muffins pk.) with ingredients left over! AND you could easily make 6 at once. Chad and I think a lot alike! 🤣🤣🤣 Have a great week you two and BTW, I would love to see more of these videos!
Good job. I do agree, there are load of people on youtube showing you how to make a weeks worth of breakfast sandwiches. Good job. It's what is good for you....some people would rather do the drive through...and great for them. It's all about what makes you feel good.
Hi Guys love this, i make these with sausages just take the casing off and mix with garlic powder onion powder, salt and pepper mix well and make in to a paddies, then cook all and add the rest of egg, cheese and can add bacon too. enjoyed this thanks .
Oh my goodness.I just done same,But didn't know how much less it worked out.Did it because of lockdown&iam sheilding.Thank you for showing us how much cheaper doing at home&it tastes the same.👨🍳🥘🍔👨🍳
My husband and I both had our earplugs on watching separate programs on our smart devices. I started laughing out loud when Chad said “thongs” Instead of “ tongs”...my husband took his earplugs off when he heard me laughing so hard...I showed him your video and we ended up watching it together. Thank you! 👩🍳💕
I just started making breakfast burritos and freezing a batch! So much cheaper then Mickey D’s and tastes better! Thanks for sharing, this is next on my list to try!
My dad did this for us growing up, to help teach the value of "doing things yourself." Homemade breakfast sandwiches and burgers always taste better and tend to be a bit healthier. Love that you did this video!
Love it! Thanks Chad...I love these comparison type videos. I hope you do more. ❤
I thoroughly enjoyed this!!!! Please do more of these types of videos. Now I want to go get all the stuff to make my own.
Using canning lids for the eggs has seriously changed my life! Thank you :)
That was great fun, I'd love to see more of Chad's money saving ideas.
I love this!! Chad we need more of these videos!

Yes! And they taste so much better :)
Beautiful, Chad! I knew the answer as to which was the best, but I loved watching!❤️😋
I made them just last week. I never thought to make them using the lids...great tip. Thank you. If I'm in a hurry i will make a quick omelet and just cut them up to fit the english muffins. Thank you loved it.😊

Great cost analysis! Labor costs might make a huge difference.
Labor and overhead is what you're paying for
All true but you didn’t pay anyone to make it or take your order. How much gas did you use to cook yours?....agree that if you have a large family definitely more cost effective
I would love to see more of these videos, love watching you guys🥰
Love this ! I'm always looking for easy inexpensive meals for my family. We need more of these from Chad!
My grandma taught me to make those steamed eggs .Thanks for breaking it down . Great Video.
I'm up in Canada and McD has a 2 for $5 deal here. Usually, it's almost $5 EACH here! The sugar content of the sausage is higher in the McD one. Making it yourself is usually cheaper ;) Heather xo

Very good idea, and fun to watch. Would have never thought to use the canning rings to make the eggs round. great work!! Love you both.
Oh my word, DELICIOUS. I have been doing this for years and in fact I saved the sack and would make them for my children and they had no clue it wasnt McDs. Our very poor and frugal days. Great memories. Thank you so much for reminding me of them.

A pair of thongs!! 😆😂🤣😆😂🤣 That's was hilarious! Great video, I hope chad can come up with a few more videos like this.
I made my own this morning but with english muffins, cheese, eggs and bacon. So yummy great minds think alike haha
Great idea. I love the original with the Canadian bacon, which has gotten almost nonexistent over the years, so making it at home makes great sense!
I love watching you both, you make me smile . Chad it was “not a big bite”. Headed to make an egg McMuffin
I learned how to cook a perfectly round egg in this video. Thanks!
I always make my own for my husband and I always wrap them separate and freeze them, he loves them. I don't eat eggs, but with this pandemic we've been eating almost every meal at home, I'm not sure my guy will ever want to go out and eat again especially for easy breakfast foods. If you have the mcdonalds app you can usually buy 1 get 1 for a penny. But it's still cheaper to make it at home! This was fun 😁 enjoyed the video!
This was such a cute video. Chad, you did a great job and made me want to make some. Nice to see the cost analysis too. Thx for sharing. 😊🐣🍳🍳
Looks really good Todd. 👍
I'd love to see more videos like this one. God bless you both! 🙏❤️
This is excellent! Very entertaining and informative. Thank you!
Use to make these all the time. Great money saver and knew the kids loved them and had breakfast when I was working. Also made the breakfast burritos to switch it up some.
My dad is about chads age and the calls them “thongs” too 🤣🤣🤣
This is such a great idea!!!

We use an egg poacher for our egg McMuffins. I love when Chad is involved in your videos. Keep up the great work!
Watching your videos just melts my heart! And, each time I see Chad, there is absolutely no denying "genes", because Lincoln looks JUST like him!

Hi Jennifer, this video popped up today, as suggested. Oh how I miss you! I especially miss your cooking and having Chad be the sampler 😊 I hope you consider doing more videos, even if you leave off the comments. You are such a light in the world. Love from NY

You both are such a wonderful light and joy with your videos into my life. 😃
I thought I heard Thongs, lol. I was thinking did he say Thongs? So I'm glad you clarified that so I know my hearing is still ok.
I fried 6 sausage patties and toasted 6 English muffins, scrambled 6 eggs (divided them), layered 1 slice of cheese on each muffin, wrapped them in wax paper, placed all six sandwiches in a gallon size freezer bag and placed in freezer. Great tutorial!! Chad did an Eggcellent job!
Thanks for sharing
I see what you did there....
Loved this video!! Good job, Chad & Jennifer!!
Do you have a video on how to season a cast iron skillet?
That Rubbermaid spatula is the best, very sturdy. My wife said we bought ours at least 14 years ago and it has held up great.
love watching you guys s videos . it always gives me little cooking tricks like re using jar lids to shape the eggs or corn stratch for the cookies recipee . i always learn from you. god bless , muh love from france
So what did Jennifer think? I use to make these with bacon for my boys when they were kids. A great way to save. You both are just so precious!!
We make these all the time. Our kids love them. Wheather it’s breakfast, lunch, or a quick dinner, there’s usually at least one being made everyday. Our 6 and 9 year old can do it on their own! This was awesome. I would love to see more. I was pleasantly surprised at the cost. I will be making these.
I loved this! Would definitely love more of this type of thing.
Absolutely would love to see another one of these videos
What a great idea with the jar lids. I learned something new today. 😊Thank you💞
You two are cute together ! Going to try this . Could you do a how too on cast iron and seasoning it ?
They are the sweetest! I just got two cast iron pans and am always looking for more videos on using them :)

These look delicious! I’d love to see more cost analysis videos and a video on how you season and care for your cast iron.
You go Jennifer ! You got him to cook for you lol. Wish mine would do that. Hmmm maybe I'll mention that save money trick.
I was just thinking of buying some rings to cook eggs. I never thought of using mason jar rings. Thanks for the tip! You two are so cute!
😊💕thank you I enjoyed this video! I couldn’t even tell the difference! 🤩💕
looks like something I'd love to try! and we have the exact same plates! thank you for sharing!
