One area some gentlemen struggle with is selecting the right tie and shirt to wear with their blue suit. Now, you might be thinking since the blue suit is neutral, could simply wear any shirt or tie with this? The answer is no. Unfortunately, not all shirt and tie combinations are created equal. Throughout the color blue, in terms of suiting, there's a lot of different shades being made available.
Now, let's go over some great options for what you could wear for shirt and tie combinations with your blue suit.
The navy suit option is a very classic choice, often used for people who are going to work, to church, or for just day-to-day functions. This looks best with a variety of shirt colors so we have the crisp white shirt, you could do a pastel blue or even a pastel pink with this. The midnight navy shade of blue is very deep, very rich, it's often mistaken for black. I find that this looks quite best with a crisp white dress shirt, most of all.
The midnight navy color is also something that is traditionally seen in evening wear. Now, we go over this a little bit more in our black tie guide on the Gentleman's Gazette.
The medium blue shade is a little bit more understated. This can certainly be dressed up like many of the others that were mentioned with a crisp white dress shirt. You could also do a deep navy dress shirt, this will give it a little bit more of a casual look but also help elevate the overall outfit.
Now, let's talk about textures. The year-round wool material found in many suits serves as a great foundation to use when mixing in different textures of shirts and ties. In fall and winter, try wearing a wool based tie against your navy suit. These are cooler ones to begin with and the tie itself being made of wool helps suggest some warmth. You could certainly choose warm colors like burgundy or mustard or even cooler tones like something in an emerald green. These will all look quite smart in the spring and summer.
Try wearing silk based ties or even ties made from cotton or linen with your blue suits. Keeping the color palette colorful yet pastel will be seasonally appropriate, especially in the spring.
Now, let's talk about some shirt color options. Now, if you were to ask any man today what shirt he would pick to wear with a blue suit, most likely he would say white or even a light or pastel blue. Now, he wouldn't be wrong. These are very popular choices, however, these two colors have remained the dominating force of what is purchased for many men who choose to wear a blue suit. Other options you could choose to wear with your blue suit to give a little more life to your closet, pink, even a light or pastel pink, ecru which looks more like a cream or kind of a light pastel yellow, or even a light gray.
There are also many different shirt pattern options made available. This helps give a little more visual interest to your outfit. Some of these choices include a herringbone, a stripe, or even a Glenn plaid. There are also many different pattern options made available in men's suiting. It's important to remember that when choosing to wear different patterns that you change the scale.
Moving on down the outfit, we move on to footwear. Footwear options are fantastic with blue suits. Because blue is neutral, as we've discussed before, you always have the option of wearing a variety of shades of brown or a classic black dress shoe. When wearing a navy or even in deep midnight navy, one great option is the black cap toe dress shoe. I think you all overlook orange and rust. As orange is the color compliment to blue, it is a brilliant choice for a tie for a blue suit. You of course have to be a bit careful with hue. Too brown an orange is not going to go too well. Red power ties are cliche these days, though so many do it. It still looks nice though. I've never liked black shoes with blue suits. I know it is accepted these days but my father sold suits and formalwear for decades and he always taught me to avoid that. Brown (of various colors) or cordovan was his instruction. Good little bit here. I think you can go with colored shirts too if you want to spice it up. I have a light green shirt that is pretty sharp with my blue coat/shirt. I have a ruby red shirt too. Pay attention to hue and don't clash and you can do almost anything with blue.

I love Kyle's natural demeanor and relaxing voice during his presentations. He's such a natural for this channel. Oh, my favorite navy is a medium navy which lets you see that it's navy blue, instead of the dark navy which looks black in 90% of situations. I think of navy suits as a neutral palette upon which I can play with other colors as needed to suit the occasion, white shirt/red tie for power meetings, light blue shirt/yellow tie for general business wear, or light pink shirt/medium pink tie for more whimsy.
Kyle has such a gentle manner, he qualifies for unintentional ASMR. Great presenter.

my favourite is a mid blue suit with a dark blue check with an off white scratch pattern. I find that the fabric has great dimension and is a fantastic suit for warmer months as it is a wool-linen blend fabric from Vitale Barberis Canonico

Great ideas....... Although I disagree with navy suit black necktie. I feel navy suit white shirt navy tie is a viable albeit Conservative option.
I have a true blue suit & it’s my favourite.
Currently rebuilding my wardrobe following considerable weight loss.
Have a Navy blazer with medium grey, navy and black slacks, black dress shirt and blue pin-stripe shirt. Am looking to buy several more shirts in light, royal and Navy blue, silver/grey, and dark red/burgundy, with co-ordinating ties. Also looking at a double-breasted navy pin-stripe suit and white shirt w/french cuffs. Then I'll be starting on more casual wear like white and/or light blue linen shirts and dressy jeans with black loafers. Dress shoes are black wing-tips.

This Sunday, I will wear my medium blue single-breasted suit with notch lapels, a solid white dress shirt, a red/navy diagonally striped tie (a nod to upcoming Independence Day) medium brown shoes and belt, and a plain white cotton pocket square. My watch will have a medium brown strap to match my shoes and belt. I may even top it off with my Panama hat.
Not much into navy but I do own a lighter blue suit, I feel like pink shirt is a near-ideal match for that type of colour although I have considered orange as well.
I need a link to the tie at 3.36 (orange/salmon color) Absolutely in love with that one.

Kyle I haven’t been supporting like I should. This was a great video. I’ll try to check in more often.
I planned out a Boardwalk Empire esque outfit with.
Navy blue and black Checkered three peice suit with a buerdaux contrast collar shirt and buerdaux lapel flower.
For the tie i opted for a patterned light grey/silver tie, and my shoes would be black oxfords, and i wear a complimentary Black Trilby hat.
I also added a pocket watch with a golden chain, and some complimentary golden cufflinks and collarpin to match my metals ( not rosegold, just regular gold )
Please feel free to suggest other options for my suit! :)

Good information...I don't have a favorite blue...at church today I wore a double breasted navy suit..my shirt purple pin stripe contrasting white color and cuffs..French cuffs..tie purple polka dots....check design suspenders in color... purple

The fact I can't wear my navy blue grenadine silk tie with a navy blue suit is why I wear a charcoal suit instead of a navy blue one for my job interviews.
I notice that many of the shirts worn are not "pressed or starched". Isn't this dressing down? Or is this a trendy, casual look; especially at marker 6:26. I think not having a pressed/starched shirt robs the blue suit of a gentlemanly good look--or is it just me? Also all the suit pants show cuffs . . . are cuffs in again or are they always in style for the gentleman's look? Can someone help me here? Thanks.

Navy Blue exists solely to confuse people who are trying to buy blacks or greys.
2:32 no offence, but if you're going to advertise that particular tie to your viewers, then at least have it in stock. that purple tie seems to have been out of stock for months now, with no clear time frame from customer support as to when it will be back in stock.

This speaker is much harder to understand than the previous 2 (sorry I don't remember the names). He should use less voice box and practice using more the front of this mouth. His speech sounds slurred and mumbling. If the video is playing in my background his speaking doesn't come out at all, which was never a problem with the others.
Here is an out-there kind of question. I mean no disrespect in this. Is it true that a light color gentleman can wear a suit, and it looks average. But, that same suit, put on a black gentleman. Explodes looking so SHARP! Am I wrong in this question? As I said before, "NO DISRESPECT " at all. Just an observation. Thanks for all you do.

I normally like your videos a lot but this one left a lot to be desired. It was hard to follow and felt random. Information came so fast and with poor organization. It was hard to follow. On top of that there were no fundamentals taught. A lot of “do” but not any “why.”
Not to be personal but I don’t like how this guy dresses either and I don’t believe he does your brand a favor.
