I have always wondered what the shape would look like if you left the ends basically alone. Well I like it. This add chat to the bowl. It’s just not round. I really like this piece Phil. It appears to be really smooth. Again this is because of your dedication to sanding. This is a big deal that others over look in my opinion.
    Thanks for the show.

That’s what my father used to say with plenty of aggravation in his voice, usually when he was working on a house project. That’s as close as I ever heard him come to swearing. Unfortunately there have been a few occasions when I am working in the yard and things don’t go according to plan that the air around me gets a bit blue. Since I live in the country and there’s not usually anyone very close by, no one but myself and God know but that’s always enough for me to regret it as soon as the words fly. 😟

Hi Phil, late again😂. The ghost looks like Tweety-pie the other way up, that is with the bowl sat as it should do on the table.
Now let's check the comments to see who agrees. Thanks Phil, I enjoyed watching that one appear and I love the ends of the bowl 👍

Thursdays are Phil Anderson night for a reason. I love the approaches you take to the pieces you make. The shape on this one is really cool and the figure in the wood is awesome. That spalting, the knots, and grain all really add interest. The squarish ends add visual interest and the bark looks great.

Never seen Madrona before but I like it. The bark ans the squarish ends made this bowl. And the finish, wow! Looked like glass on the turntable.

Always fun to see what comes to light when you turn a piece of wood and this time I see a pumpkin with a medium color stem at the top of it. I like the contrast of the round bowl and rectangular natural edge, perfect for special occasions or to hold something special all the time! 👌👍💕 Not sure guests need to know there’s a ghost or pumpkin in it though. 😉

I love the final shape of this bowl Phil. It always appeals to me that most of your wood turning has a bowl appear out of the natural shape of the piece of wood. It always seems to me that there is generally more character as opposed to constant 'plain' round bowls. Love the finish you achieved too. Stay safe & well my friend, cheers, Don from South Aust.

I saw a one eared bunny! I love the rectangular bowls, so much more interesting than a plain round bowl. It's nice to hear you say "madrona" rather than "madrone" which is how the tree is referred to here. That live edge bowl is really nice. When I have to do a recess I like to put two rings in its surface with the point of a small skew to finish it off and not have to be so particular with the sanding in the very centre that does not spin much. Gives me two lines to sign and species it in between.

Phil, first thank you for providing me and many others with so much inspiration every week. I don't know if you ever watch CBS Sunday Morning but last week they had a segment concerning the Cherry Trees in Washington DC. due to rising sea levels many Cherry trees along the sea wall are dying and need to be cut down to allow for building a new sea wall. They plan to replant but discussed that the trees that they cut down would be chipped into mulch. I would like to propose that you, The Papa and other well known turners contact the DC Park Dept and suggest that they cut some of the trees into turning blanks and make them available to turners around the country. The projects that the turners create would then be sent back to the park department so they could auction them off to raise money to help finance the replanting efforts. I realize this may be a pie-in-the sky proposal but perhaps with your and the other well known turners support it may be possible to save some of this historic wood.

He was the person CBS interviewed for the segment on. the Cherry Trees. Hopefully he will return my call and we can discuss the feasibility of my proposal. I will keep you posted of my progress but in the meantime it might help if you shared this with other turners to see if we can get additional support. Thank you.
