Before Disney Became Awful

I personally always loved classic Disney, and although I see a lot of videos calling the classics mediocre, I wanted to share my love and appreciation for these movies. They inspired me a lot as a kid, and I still enjoy them as an adult. Just a short commentary video hehe. Enjoy :)
It's not just nostalgia. Even someone who was completely unfamiliar with the classic Disney/Pixar line-up could find them far more engaging than whatever those same studios produced over the last decade. My youngest siblings and cousins seem to show far more interest in those older films and I have no doubt they'll grow to appreciate them just as much as we do. We can only hope these generations can turn things around someday.
I'm on the same boat. I'm convinced I'll be watching these movies with my kids one day to give them the same magical experience I had.
There were two key words you mentioned here...
1. *Passion.* The old Disney movies had so much passion behind them, as if the people working on them actually wanted to make a movie. **Who knew that could happen** (now I understand that many Disney movies in the older era were still only to make money, but the animators, writers, screenplay artists, and voice actors STILL thought it necessary to *put their all into what they created.* Which is, in my opinion, what majorly separates the eras of Classic and Modern.)
2. *Inspiration.* I was the same way after watching classic Disney movies that you mentioned (also Pixar and Dreamworks movies); I felt *inspired.* Like, I felt like I could also swing through the trees with Tarzan, or I felt the sudden urge to draw to my heart's content. It was an amazing feeling. Not to mention they tried to actually put meaningful morals and messages throughout, some of which still stick with me to this day.
Contrast all of this to the Modern era, where Disney cobbles together a canceled TV series last-minute, hires TikTok musicians to write its soundtrack, and severely underpay their animators just to make big money. The saddest part is that their new methods are working. They're still making craploads of money, sending the signal that they can just dump whatever they want into our laps and we'll take it. But it seems like the tides are turning a little, more towards Indie animation, where the creatives behind the projects are still passionate and striving to inspire.
This was a lot haha, but I just wanted to share some of my thoughts. Great video!
What a wonderful comment, I'm smiling ear to ear reading it. This is exactly what I mean! Classic Disney movies were borderline magical compared to the modern era. But hey, considering the success of Flow, and the flop of Wish, maybe they'll reconsider their route as a company.
Thank you for the awesome comment! And glad you enjoyed my video! :)
@Anjihyu Of course! I enjoyed your analysis! And yes, considering Wish vs. Flow, things are looking up some more for the future 👀
@@Anjihyu I would LOVE Disney to retrace their route. I'm no person who thinks Disney is done for. I believe they will be great again. They've left many bad eras of their company behind. But for now I guess it'll be Pixar carrying them again...Deja Vu!
Nostalgia aside, I still believe that they had much stronger stories back then. (Depending on where you look, lol.) I went back as an adult and watched a few classics that I hadn’t seen as a kid. A few of the “OH MY GOD, YOU HAVENT SEEN THAT??” Kinda movies. And past, say, 2016 or so….. their movies have not hooked me like the old ones still do. First watch OR rewatch. The 2010s had some wonderful releases, some I still hold in my top 25 to this day. But I really felt like it started to fizzle out as we approached the 2020s.
Totally, I felt that their approach was story first, characters second. But in the later movies it's a lot of characters with strong personalities but weak overarching plots. I also really like the lessons the classics taught! :)
The classic Disney stuff is 100% the best. I would argue Disney was amazing until Frozen was dropped. Oh well, at least I have Inside Out hehe. 😄
Did you check out Moana 2? How was it? I still haven't seen it :)
Disney has never properly understood why *Frozen* was a success, and their attempts to recapture lightning in a bottle have nearly decimated the company.
@@Attmay Disney just needs to innovate and tell a story again. I want them to do that so much.
Flow mention, _and_ Latvia mention?!??! LESS GOO🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻🦅🦅🦅🔥🔥💥💥🇱🇻🇱🇻💯🗣️🔥
They deserve it! I feel like recently we're hearing more about Latvia, with their Hockey team performing well and now an animated movie winning a big award!
As an adult I still get stuck in these classic stories and worlds
Me too!
In the beginning I had the exact posture that the image had. I was so offended and a little scared you were watching me lmao.
I got my eyes on you, you better fix that posture hehe.
*Flow* is indeed excellent. My only criticism of it is that the endless logos at the beginning prove that *Family Guy* was right about when Hollywood does it.
Even the more recent Disney movies I've liked; have just been decent and I don't tend to rewatch them.
I feel like Brother Bear was the last classic Disney film, after Treasure Planet failed they changed everything
They still had some good films after that but nothing has been the same since the early 2000s
Yeah, but luckily around that time we started getting amazing Pixar films. Though you're definitely right, the classic era ended with Brother Bear. Who knows, maybe they'll surprise us with a return to the classic format.
That is indeed just nostalgia
3:01 an awesome movie hated by a bunch of crybabies, made with not ANY less passion than the renaissance movies that you keep referencing, despite Disney having a catalogue of 63 movies, only 12-13 get mentioned.
Nah chicken little is the best
it is indeed peak cinema
The numbers don't say that but hey all movies have fans
