- A raw, unscripted brief tour and tips for photographing the fall colors of the changing aspen leaves in the Eastern Sierra, California
(This was basically a self-assignment method for teaching myself about Adobe Premier and basic editing skills. I hope you enjoy this video/ Please do let me know if you like it, and if you're interested in seeing me do more of these.)
Update #1: People have commented about wishing I had included a map. I wish I could have, but to do so would have required securing the permission of the map maker in order to include it in the video. Unfortunately I simply didn't have time for that part of the process.
Update #2: The name of the creek in Lundy Canyon is Mill Creek. The name "Lundy Creek Canyon" is my mistake.

Anyone traveling to the Eastern Sierra this weekend to photograph the fall colors? Here's a video I made featuring some locations and tips that photographers might want to check out.
That's good. I have more experience for beautiful photos. Thank you for a great movie. Wishing you peace in God's hands.
very beautiful photos, amazing video!
Thank you for your kind words, ANH THƯ luisaugusto da silva Anna Rimovska & Richard Creamer and Richard, yes, this was shot exactly a year ago (2013). I don't know for sure about North Lake this year as of right now, but I do know they got snowed on last week, so I'm guessing they may be close to being past prime. I wouldn't wait too much longer this year for North Lake or other higher locations.
Nope... unfortunately not.. ;'(
Thank you, Gary! We were thinking about going to the area and I came across your video. Very informative. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! It was Pleasure to walk with you through the beautiful eastern Sierra! With some spectacular foliage! Well done!
Great video!! Can’t wait to check out Lundy!

Forecast= "Severe Clear."
Thanks Gary, I am heading out there this weekend, will share how has the situation changed since your video.
Thanks for the report, we're heading up on the 17th which I hope it won't be to late. Maybe the warm weather will slow down the change.
We went to Lundy lake last year at the end of Oct...trees were bare, but still ended up with some cool shots of them naked trees :)
Check this Swee Oh
Thank you Gary for this great video. We are also heading up on the 18th and hope to catch sg there. Based on your directions we are pretty excited !
Based on this weekends experience: I find it pretty hard to get a good shot of leaves with backlight. The contrast is just way too high. The more successful strategy was to shoot in shadow, which was also mentioned on the video.
Just got into town last night. Looking forward to some exploring today and of course, photographing fall color.
This is such a well made video - thank you so much !!
Very nicely done Gary. You hit a couple of my favorites as well.
Jon
Thanks for the tips. I will be visiting this fall. Can’t wait to check out these places.
Hello Gary, thank you for sharing this beautiful video, truly awesome. 🤗
Just came across your video. Loved the detailed tour of the places. I visit the Bishop area several times a year. However, you have introduced me to see new places that I am now eager to photograph.
Wow. Very well done. Might be up in mid October. Thanks for the edification and beautiful location shots. Nicely put together.
Gary thank you so much as this video is full of information on the Eastern Sierra. Again thanks

Thank you Gary. I really appreciate you doing this; really helpful.
Thank Gary. LOVED IT! Probably gonna drive up this Friday.
I was just up there this past weekend (10/6-8/2016). I took the Dundenberg road, but did the offshoot to the mill (BIG mistake, even with an Outback!). But Lundy Canyon was wonderful.
Thanks for the excellent video, Gary! Heading up from Southern California today and will definitely be checking some of these locations out.
Thank you for the useful tips! Appreciate your effort.
Lots of nice info.
I see you haven't posted in a while, you need to get back and make more videos, this is awesome! keep up the good work man!
Liked it very much. Thanks a lot. On our way up within next couple days.
thanks Gary.
Awesome vid

That's good. I have more experience for beautiful photos. Thank you for a great movie. Wishing you peace in God's hands.
Very informative
Thanks for sharing locations and sample images. Are there any aspen fall colors near Tahoe?
Hi Aleksandr Khizgilov Not so much right at the lake. There are a few aspen stands around. The best area is just outside of the Tahoe Basin at a place called Sorensen's in the Hope Valley. I detail this a bit more in my book, Photographing California; vol.1-North
thanks for an awesome video. just wondering, what is the spelling of that last one where you were (lunden creek canyon?)
thank you.
Jerry Atienza My bad actually. It's actually called Mill Creek in Lundy Canyon. I just blurred the names together for too many years. Cheers,
Equally as impressive to me is Lee Vining Canyon, although it lacks the beaver ponds.
That and Rock Creek Canyon.
Hello Gary, thank you for sharing this beautiful video, truly awesome. 🤗
