🔎 Alice Phoebe Lou:
South African born indie singer-songwriter Alice Phoebe Lou began her career busking on the streets of Berlin in 2012. What started as a way to make a little money became her training ground and shaped her independent and self-determined pursuit of creating and performing music on her own terms. Alice just dropped her fifth studio album “Shelter,” which she says is “…a record about how growth and change are so important.”
Alice Phoebe Lou may be entering a new phase of her life and her career, but her ambitions haven’t changed much. “The world is constantly telling you to think bigger, to take the opportunities that you've got and find ways to multiply them, but all that feels quite gluttonous,” she explains, wanting to channel any success into building a studio to help speed up her own
creative process and maybe release music by other artists. “I feel like I’ve arrived somewhere,” she adds. “I hope young people can be inspired by the fact you can do things unconventionally, if you want.”
We met up with Alice earlier this year at The Bunker Studio A in Brooklyn, New York. To celebrate the release of her new album, we’re giving you a sneak peek at her upcoming OurVinyl Session- you can watch Alice’s intimate performance of “Halo/Shine (OurVinyl Sessions)” exclusively on UA-cam now!

She’s using an alternative tuning (maybe open E?) and it gives that plus to the sound. So rich and so profound with her beautiful voice. Incredible singer/songwriter, for me one of the best around along with Angel Olsen and Adrianne Lenker

I'm a long-time Joni Mitchel fan and Alice reminds me strongly of her, but in her own way and she gets better every time I hear her perform. She's in a league of her own and if she doesn't end up a huge, global recording success then there's definitely something wrong with the world.

@@neilsmith9473 She is a musical genius, was shaped as a street musician in Berlin, which she still does from time to time. That's why she's so incredibly good and confident when performing live. At her last concert in Berlin she danced exuberantly next to me to her opening act. You would never have thought that this delicate young lady would rock the stage right away.
Alice is incredibly talented and what i also like is that she does things the way she wants, so independent. For me an example of the most alternative way to be in the music industry and with rhis talent.
