With all the wind and hay, I would be afraid of starting a fire. To consume the patties the bees have to go inside the package once the exposed patty is gone. Above the cover will be cold. I personally would keep them under the insulation
Watch the sparks. Our Mexican beekeepers in a neighbor's field started a prairie fire starting alongside a hive and burned off 8 or 10 acres of grasslands.
The ground and the hay are pretty damp this time of year
Natalie, you are supposed to smoke the bees, not yourself or your mama!😜
I like the idea of keeping the fondant above the insulation. I noticed last year beetles being forced into the wrapper from the Hive Alive packs.
Mr. Dunn puts "Fat" straws inside the Fondant package to maintain a space for the bees. See his video?
The fondant under the reflectics gives the beetles a place to hide where the bees can’t get to them. Above the reflectics would be your best bet
00:07:10 Are the beatles just worse when bee numbers are lower, or the bugs have a place to hide?🤔
I think it was just a good place for the bees to corral them, the bonus is that they're they are easy to spot and smash and less to make it through winter. Anywho Merry Christmas!!!
Thanks for another year of nice videos. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.
If you have issues with a lighter you can try using a small torch . And you can light it from the back vent hole
This is my first year to use the larger, 5 lb patties. They won't fit underneath the reflectix so I had to cut a notch in it & lay the fondant on top.
What temp was it during this inspection? If i may ask. Thankyou for the info.
It may be a good idea to check the ones with the pattie on top of the reflective to see if the hive beetles are hiding on top of the frames . Just a thought
Dirt rooster can't have been sneaking around your apairys , your hives don't have his stickers stuck everywhere, he's probably over in Jeff's honey house at the Abby down south, sticking more on jeffs extractor again 😂 great update, yeah i am actually impressed with the reflectix but im having a dog of a time sourcing it in southern New Zealand 😬 might have to import a roll from the states. I got enough to do a few test hives to compare and those colonies are packing away stores more efficiently, might be dumb luck but im going to expand the experiment. Love the triangle Fondant feeding idea, it looks way more effective than whati usually do, which is top bar feeding the fondant with a feeder shim on the top super for the fondant pack. Awesome 👍 have a great Christmas everyone over there👍👋
See y’all at the expo

Merry Christmas, Blessed Days...
Merry Christmas to you all!! I definitely think the under method could give beetles a place to hide, but then again, they were at least contained to one spot. Any-who, no way to learn without trying, right?
You have flow hive?
Merry Christmas to the Summers Family!
