The aster or something was awesome this fall in western New York, I got at least 1 medium super per hive

Last fortnight I was looking for her and I couldn't find her for love or money. Went through his colony three times 😂 ended up having to shake down. This week I helped him do a split and first frame of brood I wanted to take out, bang there she is, put her aside on the frame and went into the bottom box, pulled a frame and I always glance for the queen just in case and zap, there she was, pulled her frame aside, got a frame of brood, put it back together, went back into the top box to get another frame of pollen and honey to finish out the split and guess who was there😂

It amazes me that you only have to cover your face. And that you can remove the frame and the bees don't seem to care.

I looked around and didn't see your smoker. I've been on the struggle bus every day this week.

The best video, love it and thank you for sharing information. I live in Canada and temperature does go down -40C/-40F. Don’t know if bees survive these harsh winters.

That is a very nice setup. I have never heard about the wax patties before but I will definitely remember that tip for next year as getting all the honey out of the wax cappings can otherwise take for ever and ever.

👋 hi Natalee and camera mum😂 great advice from your dad " don't come back with any syrup"😂 that's epic parenting right there😂 hive alive is epic 😃 the fondant is awesome and the bee's love it and it's really convenient to be able to throw in some fondant especially in spring which is putting on it's usual mountain performance in central Otago. Yesterday it was 18 Celsius and cloudless and it's been like that all week (64 degrees F) so I did hive reversals. today, comfortingly, it is snowing 🥶 and 6 Celsius (42 degrees F) and it's supposed to be minus 2 tonight (28 degrees F) Oh Joy, the awesome timing🤦 flowers have been rinsed by the occasional rain between snow just to make our day, we can't have all that pesky pollen hanging around now, can we 😬 so I had fun pollen sub dropping in the rain/ sleet/snow

Just to let you all know. This is what happens when my dad gets a little bit of control. That tittle was not my idea! lol

Hi Natalee; Something I knew but didn't connect with pollen sub. Watched an interview with Global owner. The pollen (as usual) degrades after 6 months in patties, you can stretch it a year if you freeze. They don't label dates on the box, so no telling how old. So "basically" most people stock up at EXPO, need to get it in the freezer. Are those nails ;)

Very interesting video!! The open air hive was a work of art that clearly demonstrated the concept of 'bee space'. Did you capture the queen bee? Are you going to do a follow up video on this bridge colony in its new location in your apiary?

pro tip: vacuum the bees off BEFORE you cut the comb. makes the job a whole lot easier when you arent squishing bees all the time!

Mr Ed puts the rubber bands on diagonal X over the corners on the back then sets the comb in then bands on top and looks like it works fast

That's wild! I didn't see how big it was at first but after seeing how huge those combs were, it was massive and those guys have been there for a long time. I hope they find a good home with you. Sick to see how much honey was wasted dripping down.
