Lufthansa serves two hot meals only on day flights. For example I just recently flew with Lufthansa from Frankfurt to Seattle and I got two hot meals because it was a day flight.
How recently? Because they rolled out a new economy service end of last year that cuts short on the second hot meal. Even on day flights. That box they got is the most you'll get offered now... In premium Economy you still get 2 hot meals.

I wonder if that was also because you flew out of Frankfurt, whereas this flight went back to Germany. Usually, airlines don't cater as well their return legs, but ideally, it still should have been a hot 2nd meal.

Yes, I would definitely consider Lufthansa as an „ok“ airline. Nothing special when it comes to eco or business class.
I had a Job in Munich and was on a 3 weeks roaster between Germany and California. Granted, my class was Business, but I elected Swiss over Lufthansa. Swiss is better.
The new Business Class comes with the new Boeing 777x :)

Only flown them once in economy, even though I know that they’re safe and efficient, everything about Lufthansa feels just dry, boring, and meh even compared to most other transatlantic airlines. Even BA and KLM look more interesting to fly on. And don’t even think about comparing it to the Asian airlines.

Lufthansa planes are in top shape. What i am paying for is a safe travel. German rules for getting an airplane up are top notch. Couldnt care less about a hot towel : ) Love this channel

I took a A340-600 years ago from HKG-MUC, it's my first long-haul flight to Europe, and it's memorable, I rob that time they did have menu card and kids' toys (I was around 10) That experience was awesome !

World A340s’ retirement are accelerating and the other day,Virgin’s ones retired at a time at last.I think Lufthansa begin to retire one after another if on-order A350s are delivered completely.
Xanax B767-400ER I was supposed to go on one this summer. Idk if it’s gonna fly or not, Lufthansa’s A340s will probably retire.
I flew on a Virgin 340-600 back in 2017 it felt tired compared to the A330-300 that was on the return flight
Lufthansa is will keep around 5 of their A340-600s a bit longer
I flew the exact same plane from San Francisco to Frankfurt,I had a similar experience but my meals were served in aluminium boxes tho:) great reviews guys!

Regarding Lufthansa’s five star status, of course they’re only four star but they pay Skytrax, better known as Scamtrax, for that rating. The porcelain dish for the entree is great however then giving out pet bottled water to each passenger is a huge plastic impact. I'm not a mega environment warrier but can you imagine how many plastic water bottles are handed out in flights worldwide everyday?
The bottles can be recycled.
I think Lufthansa did not get their 5 stars for aspects like passenger comfort,... its more about working conditions for pilots and crew members, ground services,... being accomodating to passengers and so on... you know what I mean. No airline beats Lufthansa in this!
Alot of Asia flight company already beat it.
ANA, JAL, EVA, Qatar, Emirates, China Airlines, Air Astana & Singapore Airlines beat it badly. Lufthansa just overrated.

Were the seats comfortable? Enough cushioning? How was the recline? Did it have adjustable headrests?
The thing about the menu cards and a few other amenities within Lufthansa group is that you would probably not get it on routes between Europe and North America. However if you choose their routes between Europe and East Asia (China, Japan), you are likely to get more. I personally flew both economy and business class on Lufthansa group’s flight across Atlantic and euro Asia continent and I can tell that there are much more to expect on flights to Asia.
which goes to show they are inconsistent as far as customer service is concerned , which goes against the Skytrash 5 star award. They probably paid a substantial amount of money to get that award.
13:30 are the toilets down stairs on any of there other planes? Also do all A340s have the toilets downstairs?

I think the additional toilets downstairs is something that more airlines should consider especially when the numbers of passengers is large.
They aren't additional. In lufthansa a349-600 the economy class toilets are only "underground". No toilets in the cabin, even in the tail. It's a very cool feature. Less caos and passengers rows in the cabin

The Lufthansa 5* rating from ScamTrax is about as credible as a Nostradamus prognostication.
Here’s a fact: Before the pandemic, EuroWings, Lufthansa’s budget flight branch, offered surprise flights on their website. You picked a category and airport you’d be departing from, but it wasn’t until after you bought your ticket that they told you where you were going!
Lufthansa also offers this deal under the name Lufthansa Surprise. It’s on their website.

Im jealous! I want to fly on the 340 before they are all gone and with airliners announcing retirement for them it's looking unlikely. I just wanted more than anything to be able to take the stairs down to their lower level bathrooms lol

From my pov Lufthansa is a really good airline about number of destinations served and especially for the fact that you are sure to have a nice service, to not arrive late, no flight cancelled, etc... All things a traveller always appreciates a lot: the security to arrive and that everything will go as planned 99% of times.
However, as all of you said, I also don't think Lufthansa should be considered a "5-star airline", due to his poor onboard service quality in both business and economy class. They really can do much better with this airline.
I think business class is 5 stars. And also do not forget the price difference between luftansah and for example Emirates. You just cant expect the same service, but that dosnt make Lufthansa worse does it?
Good Review, but you can’t expect an amenity kit or a menu card in economy class, they offer one in premium economy.
He pointed out to have his expectations oriented at the 5*-Skytrax-rating and the service offered in eco of other 5* airlines. If they don't deliver amenity kits and menu cards as the other 5* do in eco, LH can't get the points. That's brutally honest - but an important information for me when booking my next flight. If you claim to play Champions League, you should be good enough.
It would be great to see virgin Atlantic premium economy on their 747 upper deck you can catch them from the Caribbean and Florida to airports around the uk

For us it is shocking, that Lufthansa cancelled the second hot meal on the MUC-LAX & return route. We flew the exact same flight 3 years ago and it was a completely different experience. LH claimed, that passengers would love to take the sandwiches with them after the flight... but c'mon, who does that?

I flew bkk to Frankfurt 4/4/20 on the 340/600 I was never so glad of a flight home in my life (thanks Lufthansa for flying the larger plane and getting us all home)
I flew on the exact route with the A340-600 in September 2017. The differences were that I had two hot meals if I remember correctly, there were no drinks and snacks in the galley, and they didn't hand out water bottles.
they changed economy service in the end of NOV 2019, so you were lucky to enjoy the old service

I have flown Lufthansa for the last 4 years from Melbourne Australia to Dublin Ireland via Asian hubs, Bangkok (Thai Airways) Singapore (Singapore Airlines). Both of these Lufthansa partners are world class.Flights from said airports to Dublin via Frankfurt were fantastic. Friendly crew , can do, nothing is a problem, comfortable and clean aircraft. Great Airline ****.

I flew numerous times on thomas cook airlines and some of their a330s had toilets downstairs. Strange experience

I know what you mean. The first class seats were definitely wide and luxurious. The business class seats didn't look too much wider than economy but they were spaced much further apart from each other, side by side and good legroom. The premium economy hardly looked any different from economy, what was the difference between them?
I went on Lufthansa from Naples, Rome - Munich, Germany in economy class and it was very nice.

I agree that the snack bar should’ve had more variety/options and bottled/ canned beverages. On long haul flights, I would also expect two hot meals. I did like the unique lavatory situation though. Thanks for this brutally honest episode! 😁👍

What about Austrian Airlines' economy product to LAX? Have you tried it? As for the seat pitch, which airline has better one in Economy nowadays? Because most airlines have 31''-32'' , unless you pay more for Premium Eco

I was supposed to take this same flight in June. Had to cancel due to coronavirus, but nice to see how my flight would have been. I agree this flight is 4 star experience.

It's been about 10 years but I used to fly LAX to Frankfurt am Main somewhat regularly. Pretty sure they always had hot breakfast on Lufthansa. I was surprised they didn't on LAX to Munich

I flew to HND on NH and returned on LH. The difference was so obvious. I was also surprised to have received cold meal. I think LH started this practice this year. Snack bar from HND to FRA had many choices though. Overall solid airline, but I will fly if the price is cheap.

The ceramic main dish is from premium economy. They serve the same meal in PEY but in ceramics plates. Therefore I think it is just what left from PEY given that many people go for the chicken teriyaki dish over the vegetarian pasta

Economy is one the important like First Class because during long haul flight they give you more food from morning, afternoon and evening but on the evening they hand out dinner to serve if the flight is at least 10 hours
