Queen Ant turned out to be Blister Beetle sub-adult.

  • I found this bug while I was out running in the desert. at first I thought maybe it was a queen ant or something. I did a Google search of the image and found that it's the Blister Beetle in Lavae stage. I poked it with my finger a little and it seemed pretty tame. Luckily it didn't give me a blister either as I guess they can secrete a poison that gives you a blister when they feel threatened.

    That isn't an larvae, oil beetle larvae looks more like rove beetles than queen ants. this is an adult specimen.

      I think you're right. I think it just hasn't developed it's elytra yet.
