The drums of liberation are PERFECT. Not over the top, not too ominous (I was afraid they'd focus too much on the 'epic-factor') but perfectly joyful and anticipative. They get you excited, you just know something big is about to happen.
The drums of liberation playing and Nami's emotional sobbing over Luffy's death were the best parts of this episode. The voice actress did a spectacular job in capturing Nami's sadness. It was so stupendous that I actually felt her pain.
I remember when we all were spending the entire break trying to figure out what gear 5 powers would be only to realize we were thinking way too small 😂
I remember hating all the speculative Gear 5th ideas. Tiger man and whatever else. I knew Oda would do something different than what everyone expected, I just didn't know what. I just knew everyone was wrong, and for that I was right.
I think the most popular one has always been the awakening that mirrors Doffy and while that was quite close in principle, the scope indeed was much smaller. Not just environment, not just inanimate objects, literally everything bends to his will now.
The fact I was smiling for the whole scene really proves Luffy and Joyboy's ability to make everyone smile is real. Thank you Oda and everyone working on this anime!
The way Zunesha says "Joyboy...has returned!" is so moving... you can tell he's been waiting for, ehm....800 years...you can feel the anticipation in the voice, it's almost like a little kid who knows he is about to get a really nice gift and he already knows what it is...

Up until now luffy always had another reason to fight. For specific people he likes, even if it resulted in a country being freed he never cared about that, wano was the first time he was fighting specifically to free a country. It was the first time liberation was his conscious goal. And I believe that that singular thought in his head, a desperation to liberate, combined with his stilled heart. I've never seen One Piece, outside of the occasional clip, such as this video. I have a rough idea of the plot. But I don't need to know it inside-out to know a good written, choreographed, and orchestrated scene when I see one. This. This is one. Even a One Piece-ignorant person like myself gets goose-bumps from this scene.

I started watching One Piece during the summer of 2020 after a friend recommended it to me. I remember i got hyped for every big battle and the first use of Gear 2, 3 and 4. Now seeing Gear 5 incoming, the hype is on unreal levels.

Amazing I've been following one piece for almost 12 years now , so good and bad things have happen in my life like happy things (getting a dog ) and bad things like losing my grandmother who I treasured the most , and it just brings warm to my heart seeing Luffy grinning and come back to the most difficult times of this life even thought it's "cartoons" like some people call it , but we just keep getting inspired by it.... Awakened his fruit and synced his heart with that joyful beat of freedom

See one reason I feel some dissonance from the insane peaks of hype is that we the audience, haven’t been waiting for Joyboy forever, or even for a substantial time while reading One Piece. It’s a very new concept, why is it so exciting? I’ve followed OP for over 10 years, and Joyboy’s return isn’t something I’ve been waiting for until I was told to in this chapter.
People keep repeating “finally Joyboy has returned” like it’s this godtier fulfillment of something, and probably a lot of that is just hype for the Gear 5 form and powers. But idk lol

A lot died inside along the way and got bored of a series that ruined itself with terrible slow pacing. Stopped after Dressrosa and never really cared for all the wano Stuff...
I started watching One Piece during the summer of 2020 after a friend recommended it to me.
I remember i got hyped for every big battle and the first use of Gear 2, 3 and 4.
Now seeing Gear 5 incoming, the hype is on unreal levels.

Amazing I've been following one piece for almost 12 years now , so good and bad things have happen in my life like happy things (getting a dog ) and bad things like losing my grandmother who I treasured the most , and it just brings warm to my heart seeing Luffy grinning and come back to the most difficult times of this life even thought it's "cartoons" like some people call it , but we just keep getting inspired by it....
