You are the real MVP.
Thank you!
thx senior
These "low effort" videos are some of my favorites, between these and the deep dives of the motherboards. It greatly helps me shopping for hardware and is very educational. Thank you for them.
yup totally agree low effort it might be but highly useful it is
Low effort, sure…. High value, definitely 👍
For you is low effort content, but the knowledge, not everyone has it. Thanks for your videos. I got a x570S Carbon Max Wifi and the x570 Taichi because of your videos. I like to see anyway so I can provide good advice to my friends and people around.
Got the Aorus Elite X570 in 2019 Sept after seeing his breakdown on AM4 boards and it has lived upto what he has said. Sure, the BIOS was finicky (back in 2019) but it's gotten alot better. Back then the initial plan was R7 2700X (it was around 99p more than a R5 3600 - needed the cores) --> 3900 X/T --> 5950X. Otherwise, would have gotten a cheap B450 board.
I got the X570 Aorus Master based on BZD recomendation in 2019 too. Gamers Nexus also used it as AM4 test board. And aside from some BIOS bugs it's been rock solid for me. It was expensive for the time at 450 but still almost half the price of the Xtreme.
I can't even consider my AM5 build until almighty BZD is done fully assessing the platform (ddr5, cpus and motherboards)
this is the best content series of every generation. i went back to look over your 5950x and mobo lineup multiple times during AM4
I didn't see any timestamps so I'll just put some low effort timestamps.

Absolutely, about spring time when x3d's come out and the whole am5 thing matures a bit, im going to build new pc. Hope to learn something about new ram's and motherboards from Master Buildzoid.
I go back to these videos when I can’t sleep, they work great, and half the time I pick up a thing or two from it.
I went to bed too early and got an upset stomach from dinner. Got up and watched this Video, went back to bed and slept like a baby. 😄
Same, sleep with buildzoid videos almost everyday
i love how honest bz actually is
You can hear it in his voice.
I love these types of videos. Been waiting for a Gigabyte low effort video.
Keen on the Asus video :) It baffles me how much money we have to spend now to get 3 features. Clear CMOS button, Flash button and a Q-code led. I find these videos so valuable for those features alone. Currently on B550 and what it looks like is I'm just going to have to wait to pick up a feature-rich mobo used in a year or so.
When I look back at what I paid and what I got it's crazy.
Prices in AUD:
Bought a Maximus V Formula for like $300 on special
Bought a Maximus 8 Hero used - Didn't spend a lot maybe $400
Bought a Crosshair 6 Hero that lasted me 3 generations and it was like $350
Bought an Aorus Master X570 but sold it and bought a cheap B550 Master for like $250
B650 Aorus Master $650And X670 Aorus master is $899
B650 Aorus Pro AX also has a better audio codec than the Elite, as well; the Pro has ALC1220 while the Elite has ALC897, IIRC.
Love this series!
I do love me some low effort videos.👍🥰
"more low effort content" - proceeds to talk for 1:45:18 about motherboards. Love it
loving this series..
I look forward to these motherboard overviews you do
For the rev 1.0 vs 1.1 thing, when they did that with the X570S Pro AX, the difference was the wifi chip. The first was Intel then they changed to the AMD-owned one
Definitely not low effort in my eyes. Lot's of incredible in-depth knowledge that helps me decide which AM5 board to choose
B650 Aorus Elite AX (mATX) just dropped another $10. Went ahead & picked one up for a recent 7700x (eventual 7800x3d) & 4090 fe build. Don’t think we’ll see Pcie 5 on GPU matter any time soon & when it eventually does, would be upgrading to am6 anyway.
Thank you so much for this!
Ive been looking at getting a ryzen 7000 series CPU and have been appalled at the pricing for them. Ive been really enjoying watching your videos on them to try and help me make the best desition on what board to get. I do wish you would make a video for Asus as well though =)
Can`t wait for the A620s. So many people need just what the Ax20s offer, a graphics card, a couple drives, dual channel ram... most people are set.

Buildzoid, these may be low effort for you, but for those of us watching these it saves us a great deal of effort. Thanks for the videos!
Excellent review! You sold me on the B650E Aorus Master. 👍I don't need the additional SATA ports, 10Gb LAN and the extra bling on the X lineup so this should do just fine for my upcoming 7950x build.
Update: I got the B650E Aorus Master + Ryzen 7950x and it looks like the motherboard is defective. I get black screens when the CPU is under heavy load (I uploaded a video on my channel). I changed all components except for the motherboard and the CPU. Other people on Gigabyte's Reddit are also having exactly the same issue with different CPUs such as 7700x. I will be returning the motherboard and will probably get something from ASUS.
I'm eager to hear about your findings for the B650M Elite's voltage regulation
I am similar in that I don't need a board that has 4 m.2 slots; 2 is enough for me. One for the boot drive and one for where you want/need a fast and relatively large drive. I only buy ATX mobos because I like not having things crowded together. I require a board have an optical out/TOSlink for audio. I like having lots of SATA ports(my current AM3+ board has 6 SATA and 2 eSATA), and I have a 4 port SATA card installed in an x1 slot. When I build an AM4 system I will buy an 8 port SATA card for it...
Just a little correction here, the B650i Aorus Ultra has 4 Sata connectors, the daughter board has 2 vertical ports and 2 horizontal ports.
Good to know my evaluation is shared by others... shame my friend still had to buy a x670 ax elite as nothing else of comparable required features was in stock. So they ended up spending more, for less.
But if you need something for work, you need it for work.
Just installed the MATX board on Christmas eve with a 7600x what an upgrade from my old Gigabyte 350ab wifi w/ 1700x. Some games really struggled at getting the 100% out of my rx6600. Even when they showed mostly 100% I know there was more to get out because I'm seeing some really big gains with the new setup. Possibly Pcie 4.0 support helping too. Used liquid metal conductonaut to paste and in long cinebench runs see around 92-93c with help of a cheap 280mm AIO. Boy these new procs run hot. It boosts frequently to 5.5ghz though and maintained 5.2ghz all core during the cinebench runs. Board is rev 1.1 but came with v1 bios and could not use my two ram sticks. Had to use one to post. Upgraded bios to 3c and two 16Gb ram sticks work and they run full speed with the xmp profile. Overall I'm happy for the $200 I spent on the board and with all the functionality should be set for multiple future upgrades!
Please keep doing this
Decided on B650M Aorus Elite AX thanks to this video. Thanks buildz!
So? How did that go?
Could you do a low effort video on Asus AM5 boards? Like the X670E Hero and the Extreme. Love the content... with or without effort.
What do you think of the Biostar X670E Valkyrie, Mainboard? I like the features and the postcode for the low price, but I am not familiar with the brand.
For what it's worth, I have a diagnostic card that has a couple of LPC, pci and pcie x1 interfaces. In the manual, it does say that the only known manufacturer where it _can read_ those post codes is on a Gigabyte motherboard.
I got the B650 Elite AX + 7700x (from MC so the board total is $180 and free ram) in preparation for a 79xx3D chip and it's surprisingly a really good board. Other than the weak audio chipset, haven't had any hard instabilities. The heatsinks are pretty overkill though, any of the vrms barely reach 50c at full load lol.
I think if you don't have an audio interface of any sort, the b650 msi tomahawk is your best bet with its alc4080 chipset (my mc didn't have it at that time and I wanted to try out other brands)
Awesome stuff man, pls look into a Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC PCB breakdown please :) Lots of people got it so it should generate quite some interest ...
FYI there is such a thing as PCI-E 4.0 10GbE AICs, which only need a single lane for full bandwidth. The OWC OWCPCIE10GB is the only one I can find, but it not horribly expensive.
This means that boards with PCI-E 4.0 x1 slots are actually useful.
Wait, when the hell did you get 185k subs? I swear it was 20k just a year or so ago. No wonder the vids are coming thick n fast. Good job m8!
B650 master seems really good for the price (at least in US$). Also in general seems like gigabyte hasn't completely lost their mind with AM5 pricing like asus and msi have
I am considering this board but buyers are complaining that there are problems in the bios. I would like to see more in depth reviews of this board before pulling the trigger.
@@halrichard1969 I have b650 aorus, rear audio line out doesn't work, and waking up from sleep problems...looks nice...but board has problems...returning.
@@hoobeu early adopter tax, welcome
Is it possible to get your hands on/ review the b650m aorus elite? I’ve been hearing that having expo enabled doesn’t wake when you out the machine to sleep. Hoping you can possibly investigate this?
The reason there's so many M.2 slots is because if there were PCIe slots there they would get covered up by your 4 slot 4090. Even a regular 2 slot card you want to leave room for the fans to breathe.
I agree they don't need to be PCIe 5.0, though. Just do PCIe 3.0 for the M.2's for all it matters.
All the more reason to liquid cool.
I'm not even joking when I say, the *one reason* I would still want an r9 fury now, is because it becomes barely larger than a single x16 slot when using a custom water block.
@@ZeroHourProductions407 check out Galax GTX 1070 katana
@@ThunderingRoar I'm aware. But doesn't do me a whole lot as Galax won't sell in the states. So any imports are marked the hell up. Not kidding when I say even the HOF 3080 was selling for $3500 on an ebay reseller, and over $5000 (with shipping and tax) for the _normie_ 3090.
@@ZeroHourProductions407 @Jorge Ramos are any of the professional cards like a4000 worth looking into if you re into thin gpus or no?
@@ThunderingRoar Maybe? Normally I look through the lens for gaming. And stuff like the Quadro and firegl often are famously pathetic for the price. Though hopeful to have a newer capture PC. Which won't need a 4090 or similar, but something modern enough to encode efficiently. Was thinking of buying inlaw's 1660 super if they still had it. But wouldn't turn down a workstation that can encode if the price is right.
Is the B650 AERO G a good choice for a white build?
I will forever know the IO shield as a spider shield from now on, and it has become my most important feature :D
I'm looking forward to the ASUS version!
Yes the B650E e-gaming looks very nice, for almost 200€ less than the X670E version.
Thanks rambling man.
I bought the X670E Aorus Master specifically for the PCIe layout. I don't like x8/x8 layouts. To me the only use for that seems to be multiple GPUs, which is a pretty rare setup these days. With the master I can maintain x16 for the gpu, and have 2 m.2 directly to the cpu (one for os, one for games), and still have the remaining 2 PCIe slots usable. Still sticking with sata ssds seems insane to me, the performance and system responsiveness difference is very noticeable.
My only real complaint is the 2.5gb lan, but I can get a separate card when I actually upgrade my network to 10gb. I also don't agree to saying you can't put a 10gb nic in a 3.0x1 slot. It wouldn't do a full 10gb but it would do 8gb, which I would say is close enough for most people.
I wish manufacturers remove useless x1 and x4 physical slots completely like Gigabyte started doing from Alder Lake and leave primary x16 slot at the top and 2-3 x16 physical slots at the bottom.
I think Buildzoid's point was that supplying an AIC with PCI-E x8 to dual M.2 would provide CPU-connected M.2 slots for those who need them (like yourself) while offering flexibility for those who want to use a second x8 slot for something else.
@cameronhindmarsh im like you. I want x16 gpu and 2x m2nvme drives plus the Option to put maybe a Soundcard or another x4 pcie card without the cut off the x16 gpu slot. but the xtreme hast the same Layout right?
@@BrickBazooka Similar, but not exactly the same. The xtreme connects all 4 m.2 slots directly to the cpu, so 2 of them have to share bandwidth with the x16 slot. So you can do your x16 GPU and 2 nvme drives fine, but as soon as you add a 3rd nvme the GPU is going down to x8.
@@Tecnoc22 great and thank you for your quick response. I would never do more than 2x m2ssd. So it's up to me if I choose xtreme over the master right? master has 2x usb ports more, xtreme has 10gbit lan.. both nothing really important to me. I like the looks of the xtreme more (fits my founders 4090 better), but it's also 250 Euro / usd more expensive... lane Layout wise the master should be better. I have to pick between these two, cause I want an e-atx am5 aorus board and my 5 years old x370 k7 is getting too old..
@Buildzoid was wondering if you or anyone has tested a low core count processor on a lower phase count vrm compared to a high phase count vrm and also a high core count processor on the same kinds of motherboards
I think you got confused with the X670 vs B650 Elite boards due to the PCI-e version difference for the M.2 drives. The X670 features all slots with 4.0, while B650 features 2x 3.0.
Yeah I wish you'd do this mobo rambles on day 1 to inform purchasing decisions!
Will you end up doing this for all of the manufacturers?
@6.38 Not exactly convenient - Yes I would agree 100% under the first metal plate are two of the mounting screw holes for the motherboard - a trap for young players you put the motherboard in the chassis first but there is another gotcha - make sure you have sufficient room to plug in your two 8 pin EPS connectors at the top of the board - I recommend 8 to 2 x 4 extensions to save your knuckles. One good feature of the board is that it has a microphone to listen to the sound of your fans and register a DB Level so you can make things nice and quiet. It's downfall however is the integrated software that goes with it which is best described as buggy but also is not segmented so overclocking seems to be part of fan control.
@1:34:30 You can see the "Front card" of the ITX board has 4 SATA ports, at two different angles.
These videos are so good. I can't wait for the ASUS Version of this video.
Same here. Got the crosshair hero when microcenter had a price error for $450
@@Enjoying-Life Dayam you lucky mutha. Well done.

Nearly two hours of low effort content from Buildzoid?? Count me in!! Grabbing Popcorn*
The B650e Aorus Master is already discontinued as confirmed by Gigabyte. It's impossible to find new at MSRP.
With shadowplay and the the sorts, is there really a place for capture cards anymore? Are they become the next soundcard, redundant.
What does a capture card give you (in windows) that software doesn't? Asking honestly because I'm not knowledgeable enough
Keep those low effort motherboard videos coming! Looking to buy a mATX board so they are really useful.
Still not sure if I should go Intel or AMD, if the pricing in Europe changes it might become a clearer decision.
They are a bit crazy right now.
This should be a feature film! 🤣
Any chance you'll ramble about Asus AM5 motherboards, too, Buildzoid?
You should really give M.2 NVMe SSDs a chance, they're actually pretty awesome. Nothing looks nothing is faster, nothing looks cleaner, because it doesn't require cable management or ugly up your case with expansion cards that might make it more difficult to install some of these new GPUs that are just massive. There are so many PCIe lanes that it makes no sense to waste them on something stupid like an ugly expansion card for M.2 drives, when you can just have M.2 drives installed on the board directly.
I have always made it a point to keep my storage down on my gaming rig. One two terrabyte stick is enough for me to keep everything plus two or three games loaded and still not go over 60% total capacity. If I can get a good deal on a 4TB stick, I might consider it.
At the same time, not every workload requires that bandwidth, SATA drives can be cheaper for higher capacity models, cable management is often a non-issue since all cables are routed at the back regardless, and some people like having expansion cards in their PCs also. You may not, and that's fine. But other people don't mind it. Whether or not a PC is "cleaner" is subjective anyways.
The flexibility of installing three GPUs, super-fast networking, or other add-in cards, are all lost when you have 4 m.2 slots for a system and a user that doesn't need it.
Having to cool the GPU and not block it's cooler, that's also solvable by having an m.2 expansion card (with its "clean" shroud, blower fan, and no external power connectors mind you) above the GPU rather than below.
I am so looking forward to the ASUS roast.
On the b650m pro elite ax there is a header above and to the right of the pci slot almost in the middle of the board. It's labeled ESP1_DB But the manual doesn't label it. What does that header do?
1:12:44 Yo, you're checking the B650M Aorus Elite specs and the prices for the B650M Aorus Elite AX !!! Those are two different boards. You can see that the simple "Elite" board is just out of stock everywhere and you can only buy the more expensive variant.
Buildzoid, yes more low effort content just rambling about motherboards please! It's so much easier to just listen to you for an hour and get your insights.
You missed the difference in the capacitors (close to VRAM) on B650 Elite vs X670 Elite.
Can you make a video like this for Asus please? Great video, very informative.
Could you please do a ramble about the Z690 Unify X and it's performance with 13th gen CPUs and high MT/s memory?
@BZ, What's your take on the negative reviews on Gigabyte's Software Packages (Drivers/LED/Fan Control/BIOS Flash)? I have a GB Z170M Gaming 5 & it's the worst MB I've ever owned. The software was horrid then and sounds like nothing has changed.
The reason why they bake the M.2 slots onto the board is probably due to the current trend of vertically mounting your GPU on a dedicated or converted vertical mount that more likely than not kills all possibility of using any of the other slots. :(
thanks! the b650 PRO has a better audio codec - but for many people the elite is such a good deal
I'm disappointed the Aorus Master became an E ATX board 😕, I really liked the Aorus X570s master except for the dual bios that got dropped from the original
I love gigabyte design, and the aorus b450 mobos are tough workers,
I think the DS3H's heatsink might actually be better for strapping a 40mm fan on the end potentially than the gaming x actually, not that you should. Also I think you missed it but the b650I got 4 sata ports, not 2
Hopefully you make a video analysing ASUS AM5 motherboards as well.
im thinking of buying the x670 aorus elite ax on newegg. im on the fence about it. pairing it with a 7800x3d
Great Thank you! Can you do ASUS too or a general one including all. So we have a general idea of AM5 boards
That m.2 vs pcie x16 caveat is an "issue" with just about every AM5 board, tho its less of a problem for AM5 than it is for Z790 because it at least has 4 more lanes for cpu.
You'll find that even the X670E MSI Godlike and Crosshair IX extreme have similar caveats to it. This is really a reason why I would not hesitate to use a Threadripper should they finally make enthusiast versions again. Dont have to worry about what happens to your primary gpu slot if you use all the pcie-5 m.2 slots.
I guess they dont see turning your gpu slot into x8 will have much of an impact for gamers at least, since even these new gen gpu wont be saturating it. plus they are still gen 4 gpu. but, for the prosumer that would have needed that gen5 gpu bandwith AND gen 5 m.2 slots, then they will need to get/stick with Threadripper.
Is the asus strix e-e & msi carbon the only ones with x8 x8
For your claim about VRM heatsink X670E Aorus Extreme being a surplus, maybe the manufacturer or customer actually wants the VRM to run cooler since electronics generally last longer at lower temperature? The durability may be an aspect in the consideration? After checking out Hardware Unboxed's video about motherboard VRM for past AMD and Intel generations, the series becomes my favourite on UA-cam because there are so many example that manufacturers screwed up so hard on VRM. And now manufacturers are aware that buyers are aware about the VRM issue.
I think it is also safe to assume that people who would buy this expensive motherboard is likely going to pair it with a higher end AM5 CPU pulling higher wattage (although not as much as Intel do).
About the PCIe lanes, I would agree that it reduces the flexibility as a motherboard.
I actually plan to buy X670E Aorus Master due to aesthetic. But due to this video, I will reconsider it. Can you also do this to Asus AM5 motherboard?
I think consensus is that He should do them all yep.
i can get it for the price of a b650 aorus elite + get a free waterforce 240, but i am hesitating becuz it somehow doesnt have the onboard DAC a master usually have?
Sata SSDs still perfect as workhorses for nearly everything. Game loading etc proven only to be a second or two between nvme and sata still...and totally agree with all the damn m.2s taking the lanes away from the x16
Do you not do reviews for gamers nexus anymore?
Looks like these AM5 boards are future proof on the heatsinks so it will be easier to handle the future AM5 chips that will be coming in hotter.
B650M Gaming X I would have gotten if it was available in North America, just because it looks cool. But got the Aorus Elite AX instead on sale. DS3H is really the same thing as Gaming X without wifi, and integrated IO shield.
The VRM might be overkill for Am5, but you have to think these boards have to be designed to last multiple generations and power any future cpus. What if amd bring out an Am5 32 core cpu in the future that can pull 500-800w? The VRM heatsink will be needed then.
This is what I was thinking, this is the first generation and they are massively overbuilding to future proof as much as possible. Not only CPU, but the rest of the board. The cat is out of the box.. and high end GPUs are going to be 2-3 card width and having pci slots covered is useless. Makes sense to use that space with m2 slots. Also, having them 5.0.. future proofing.
Great Job man as always!
Shall we expect similar videos about Z790 MoBos (of all brands)?
This generation is full of overpriced crap and your input is more that valuable ...!
On top of that there is only one mobo with 2 Dimm slots (Apex) and the upcoming EVGA ones but it will be good to have an idea about what can actually be xpected from the rest of the options and not only on RAM OC.
I am seriously looking forward to a "low" effort video analyzing and sharing experience on the z790 options!
hell ya!
53:32 you missed a difference for the B650 Elite and the X670 Elite, it's not just the 1*m.2 slot. The B650 only has 2*PCIe 3.0 x1 instead of the X670s 1*PCIe 4.0 x4 and 1*PCIe 3.0 x2. Nevertheless, thanks for the vids, it helped me pick a manufacturer and a board I like. Too bad there wasn't one for Asus too.
That is only for the expansion slots. If we refer to storage then it is 1x gen5 and 2x gen4 slots as presented in the video.
I hate how boards don’t have pcie lanes, and only have m2. If I want more m2 I could put in in the pcie slot with an adapter. 2 m2 slots are fine, I don’t need 5
Seriously, I would really appreciate not having to go to workstation boards for proper expandability
@Sean Price Easy, thunderbolt cards, another GPU for encoding, capture cards, audio cards, 10 gigabit ethernet, multiple ethernet ports, etc. There is a lot of things that you would like to have in an "expensive" board aside from just 1 GPU and some M2 SSDs
@@StYfReX don't forget the HBA for the media storage, also 25gb nics are coming down quite a bit on the second hand market
Could you comment about Gigabyte B650M-DS3H? It's 160 usd right now. Is it wise to pair it with 7600x and Hynix 6000mhz - CL 30 ?
Just bought a b650 elite and knowing it's as good as it is makes me feel better about my purchase cause I only need two M.2 slots and having that clear cmos button (pull the battery) or the power button (jump the power connectors) is just not worth the extra
I'm with you on prefering PCIe slots vs anything else. PCIe is the most universal and flexible interface on modern CPUs. It can be used for nearly anything. It's even more flexible than USB. You can't convert USB to PCIe, but you can do the opposite easily. Locking precious CPU PCIe lanes in to the m.2 form factor (which I admittedly like) is just silly. PCIe can be used for storage expansion (like a SAS controller), expanded networking, more USB, sound cards, additional GPUs, etc.
hi, would be nice if u could do a ramble for Asus AM5 motherboard
Any reason NOT to get the Gaming X AX? It's the cheapest ATX, seems to have everything you need and seems to have good software.
Please do a video on Asus AM5 boards!
Would you be willing to make a video on how to oc ram on a b650e aorus master? Since this is round about the medium budget board in their lineup. Kind of an "How to get an all day, every day usable OC for medium(ish) budget".
Don't get the B650E Aorus Master. Looks like there's a defect with this motherboard. It causes black screens when the CPU is under heavy load. I uploaded a video on my channel if you are curious. Other people on Gigabyte's Reddit page are also having this issue.
Can you ramble about some z790 boards next?
the b650m aorus elite ax is the cheapest on Aliexpress, thanks for the video!!
