Ryobi 1900 Pressure washer GFCI Plug Fail, then Fix

- In my new Series, DYI for the Regular guy, I wanted to show how easy (or not) it is to fix the tools we work with. I broke out my Ryobi 1900 to do another Video and quickly saw that the housing for the plug was cracked. I am not sure how this happened as I store it up and on the wall, but quickly found that it was not covered, so either throw it all away and get a new one or go get a new power housing and change it out for less than $20 This is a quick one take video where it took less than 10 mins to take care of this issue.

Thanks for the tip. Couldn't find GFCI plug locally, but they had a short GFCI hookup and paired that with a normal replacement plug with added sealant. Runs fine again.
Thanks for this video. I purchased the new GFCI plug from Amazon, swapped it and it worked. No need to purchase a new power washer. The effort was worth the $20.00 investment.

Mine the wire just ripped right out by accident. Figured I'd have to throw the whole thing away. Your vid helped me realize its easy enough to take it apart and reset the wire in the correct place. Gonna give it a shot before I use it as an excuse to finally pull the trigger on an Active 2.0.

mine broke today too, no cracks or anything. Home depot simply exchanged it for a new one. Only had it for like 10 months too.

Ryobi has some of the best warranties in the industry if you are using their tools for home use only. This unit has a 3 year warranty. Which can be doubled by using a high quality credit card at purchase

What about when the GCFI is green but the actual power unit on the washer still doesn’t turn on? Does that mean the motor went bad? Is there a way to replace this?
Mine is also doing this. Did you find anything out on trouble shooting?
If you "think GFI is good, test wires with volt meter to confirm power coming out. Then if power good, might as well open power washer. It is dead, so you cannot kill a dead washer, but maybe fix it. Be careful and have unpluged when taking apart. Maybe switch, i cannot tell.
How do I find that replacement part on Amazon?

SAME HERE. PLUG internal relay was buzzing and refusing to work. Unscrewed mine, and used one from another dead power washer. NOTE IMPORTANT STRANGE. The RYOBI was 2 wire not 2 + ground AND the black wire went to the SILVER screw, and white wire to the COPPER SCREW. STRANGE and non-standard. In any case when I fixed it, i attached black wire to copper and white wire to silver. seems to work.

Went thru 2 of them same pressure washer first original lasted about 3 years the second ELEGRP brand failed in a year maybe an original replacement part would of been better longevity, dont know . Anyway put on a regular two prong connector Im done with the cheap electronics and the planned obsolescence deal going on where your constantly buying new ones..Ill take my chances with it.....................

I've watched several videos and people are finding out that the GFCI has failed. You know it failed when it wont start and the green indicator light on the ON switch is off when the GFCI is plugged in. So, naturally, people replaced the GFCI switch!
However, if you look at these videos, including this one, you will notice that the WHITE neutral wire is on the left side, and the BLACK hot wire is on the right.
The slots that these go into, clearly say on the left "L" for LINE, and on the right "N" for neutral. These plugs come MISWIRED FROM FACTORY! Miswired electronics, which this plug has a circuit board, are prone to become defective because of the miswiring. The polarities for appliances and electronic devices must be polarity correct.
What I see in the videos is, people wiring the new GFCI wrongly because. they are not familiar with wiring or don't pay attention.
Ask any electrician, wrong polarities and circuit boards, are a recipe for circuit board breakdown.
DON'T. REWIRE THESE GFCI's INCORRECTLY BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT SURE HOW TO WIRE CORRECTLY! Look at the slot you want to wire, "L" is for the incoming HOT, and "N" is for NEUTRAL which completes the circuit. By reversing it, you are ruining another circuit board.
