Thanks! Just bought a brand new in the box Karcher pressure washer at an estate sale, never out of box, but about 6 years older or older. Put it all together and soon as I plugged it in the GFCI popped, can't reset it. Called Karcher and was left on hold 15 minutes. Hung up and searched youtube and your video came up, hit your link and ordered my new GFCI, hopefully here Tuesday. I was about to give it a pitch. Thanks for your information. Perfect job
I just replaced the GFCI plug you recommended with my broken Ryobi power washer...and it FIXED and WORKS again...I almost bring the machine to recycle center and thank you so much for sharing this video. Save me $200+
I was wondering what was the issue you were having with yours? I have a Ryobi 1700 Pressure Washer and its making a buzzing noise from the plug. Thanks!
@@MrBod4life Mine didn't make any buzzing noise. The light on the plug will light up but the machine just won't start. As soon as replaced the plug, the machine fires up again.
Nice video, well shot. QUESTION: My GFCI plug has a red light on it and it goes on when I press the top button and off when I hit test. Is it possible the switch is bad even though the light is working properly?
Before getting one of these, if you have security bits take apart the old one. Due to the heavy parts inside and frequent dropping since the module is at the end of a cord, it's often just a solder joint or two that are broken on the original unit. Solder it yourself if you understand what you're doing, or find a friend who can do it, it will usually be pretty basic soldering. This of course won't fix one with an actually bad part, but often it is only a broken solder joint or two and an easy fix on the original module. Not knocking this product at all, I'll likely buy one of these myself if the one I'm working on now is actually broken..
On my rug doctor I took the plug partially apart. Found 2 security screws. Removed them. But there is something stopping me from getting it apart. I can pry it open 1/4 inch but it doesn’t pop open. So I have ordered a new one. But the old one won’t win. Maybe I should get out the Dremel 🤓
Thanks for the suggestion. I'm an electronic technician, so I'll inspect mine carefully. I drew a blank when searching for a schematic. I understand how GFCI's work: If a current transformer is around the Line and Neutral connections at the same time, on a normal circuit, the current measured will be zero. If there is a ground fault, the current leaving the Line connection will not be equal to the current returning on the Neutral connection because that current is going to ground. Current between 100mA and 200mA can kill someone.
I received my pressure washer ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQauTxLT0JLSvqkq10rD79TU4k0Vz8zP over the weekend and decided to wait for the sun to come out before firing it up. Was needed to clean the deck. Our last pressure washer broke a couple of seasons ago, and I just hadn't replaced it yet. This one had great comments, so here we are. It was easy to assemble, and the trigger wand is comfortable and easy to hold for long periods of time. The pressure washer worked great and made quick work of the "TN North side algae" that inevitably grows every year. I also washed all of the deck furniture while I was at it... it all looks great! So far I am happy with this purchase. I plan to climb the ladder to wash siding over the next couple of days, will update if I have anything else to add after that!
Thank you so much. Having this issue with a brand new swimming pool pump. That stopped working after a few minutes. We tried everything inside and outside and nothing. I will be picking up the replacement GFCI plug today!!
My gfi plug had a green light but the button on the Ryobi 1700 was not green. I replaced the Gfi plug off amazon got the same replacement and it works perfect now! I have a plastic bag over the plug now when it’s sitting outside
Saved me time and effort. It would be nice to see what screwdriver head was needed to unlock the power cord. There is one screw which is not standard for which I couldn''t find the right screwdriver to unscrew.
I would not suggest changing out the GFCI plug on a brand new power washer if you can still return it. I’d just exchange or return and buy a new one. I don’t know if you’re aware of this but every time I plug my power washer into an outlet I have to press the Reset button on the GFCI plug to make it work. It’s probably a safety feature. That’s one thing you can check before you return the unit.
I'm running off my inverter but the surge when I pull the trigger keeps tripping the gfci. Can't I just wire a standard plug on? I have the ar630tss on a igen4500 inverter. The pressure washer shuts off when not on the trigger and I believe that's the issue
Thanks for your question! I actually have both the 3-prong and 2-prong versions of the Oaonan GFCI plug. Personally I wouldn't use the 3-prong if your pressure washer only needs 2. Here's a link to the 2-prong version I have: amzn.to/2qbJWye Hope this helps! It's super easy to fix yourself!
Wish he’d say yes or no…I have the same problem. I bought a three prong - but only needed the two. Can I still use it? And just not have the green ground wire ?
Good video but you MUST have the unstripped cord under the wire clamp at the end to avoid a wire strip. Clamping down on the individual wires is wrong and dangerous and should never be done.
My ON button doesn't light up, but my GFCI light is on, but when I hit the reset button the GFCI just blink and stays green and you can hear a click and the machine wants to start but it doesn't start, and when I tried to hit the test button nothing happened. I don't know what to do, if you can help me that would be awesome Thanks..
My 15 year old Karcher went out today completely. I opened up the GFCI plug to find a burned hot (black) wire and the smell of burnt plastic. My yellow GFCI was sealed with what looked like hardened silicone gel for waterproofing. Was yours similar to that?
All my outdoor receptacles have a GFCI. Looking for reassurance more than anything; anyone see any reason why I can't just cut off the built in GFCI on the pressure washer, replace with a regular 3 prong plug, and plug that into the GFCI receptacle? I'm still protected.

I plugged my pressure washer into a non GFCI outlet it ran for about 2 minutes I turned it off when to plug it back into another non GFCI outlet and now the green test light reset light won't go off in a pressure washer won't turn on. Is this because I plugged it into a non GFCI outlet and now it's broken?
Glad I found this video. I wanted to wash my car this weekend and my Gfci would not reset on my pressure washer. I had to use my garden hose instead. I also thought I had to throw away my pressure washer. This looks really easy to replace. Thanks!
@@TheRenderQ How would you know if in fact it is the GFCI as the problem? I have a Ryobi Pressure washer that is constant buzzing sound at the plug when plugged into the wall. Thanks!
So, we replaced our power washer GFCI plug with a new OAONAN plug and it still won't reset properly. It just clicks back when we hit the reset button and the washer won't turn on. Is there another reason why this might be happening other than that the GFCI plug need replacing? Thanks!
Not sure if you have another issue with your power washer but is there a possibility that the wires to the Oaonan are reversed? Check to make sure nothing else is making contact with the wires or connections. I guess it's possible the Oaonan GFCI you got is faulty?
The power washer could run on direct power but it's not advisable. The GFCI helps prevent you from getting electrically shocked in case something happens. Water and electricity don't mix well!
