I have a Greenworks 2300 PSI Pressure Washer (PW). Used it once. The GFCI went bad, It was easy to test, as when I plugged it into main power the power light illuminated then it would trip to off within 5-7 seconds with NO LOAD (PW powered off). As a final test I opened the GFCI and disconnected the PW wires from the GFCI (please ensure the power cord is disconnected from an outlet before opening the GFCI), and then plugged to GFCI into power with nothing connected to it with the same result. Bought a new GFCI at Lowes, installed it as a replacement and the PW works great again.
Worked great! Note: My replacement plug came with three different sleeves rated for different units. Be sure look at the sleeve you're replacing to know which one to use (the sleeve has the rating etched on it)
Thanks for the video. Changing out my GFCI was easy (and dead on to your instructions). The replacement I chose had sleeves and strain bars specific to the wire gauge and number of wires. Fortunately the cord had the gauge information printed on it.

Thanks for the video, I’m waiting for the gfci plug, and I’m hoping it works. Update : I just finished putting the plug on and it worked! Thanks again for the tip!
Yes, this was my problem. It was tricky because the plug *seemed* to work (buttons worked and light showed) but I wasn't getting any volts on multimeter. Didn't have to replace it though as the mechanism just needed freeing and now its tested and working fine.
super helpful! I have a damaged GFCI plug and the sunjoe associate tells me to take it to walmart to get it fixed by a technician "I can trust".... sheesh! I bought one from Amazon and hoping to fix my broken GFCI plug over the weekend...
You didn’t share how to tell if this might even be the problem.. i.e. if the green light is on in the GFCI .. can it still be defective? .. or to put another way was the green light on your defective GFCI on or not ?
I think for me the way I tested it was to hit the reset button. It would briefly come on while I held the reset button, but then turn off again. I decided I would try replacing the GFCI to see whether that might be the problem - I didn't know it for certain. But replacing it fixed it, so I figured that must have been the issue. I don't remember what the light was doing - it's been a while.
Man you have no idea how much money you saved me 😅😑 I was ready to throw out my greenworks pro till I came across your video I had the hole damn thing apart too and it was the GFCI that was the problem 😂 thank you sir
Hey my guy I greatly appreciate the video. You saved me some much needed doe. I had an old end of an extension cord and that worked perfect. Keep it up 💪
Do you have to change the outlet of the house that you use to a certain specification. I have replaced 2 GFCI in less than a year. Seems like something is off. Any recommendations?
My older pressure washer doesn’t have that type of plug, maybe it’s built into the machine itself 🤷♂️ But the washer is like a tank it has yet to fail me and it’s about 15 years old, all the new washers seem to have this plug
I had an issue with my harbor freight electric one today, hadn’t used it in over 10 years. When I plugged it in, I guess the on switch had been on so the machine cut on right away and started running for 10-20 seconds. Went to hit the trigger and nothing came out. This was also before I realized I had my hoses screwed up, so the machine wasn’t getting any water… not the thing won’t cut back on no matter where I plug it in… what do you suppose is the culprit? Do these things have fuses or is the GFCI plug the part that usually serves that role?
Good question. I think it was a bit of a guess and check for me. I think it briefly made a noise when I held down the reset button. I think it's also the cheapest and easiest place to start.
hmmm, good question. It wouldn't hurt to try replacing the GFCI plug. If that's not the issue you could always return it. It's a pretty quick fix/check.
Mine was blowing the circuit breaker as soon as I plugged it in. Then it stopped blowing breaker but the GFCI would not reset. I disconnecting the wiring at the pump, GFCI still had same behavior. Replaced GFCI, problem solved.
@@jimcoene6409 I would start with continuity to find the problem. If you find a capacitor you have to discharge it before touching it or you’ll get a shock. But I don’t think you’ll need to go there. Continuity, GFCI blocks current if it’s triggered
All my outdoor receptacles have a GFCI. Looking for reassurance more than anything; anyone see any reason why I can't just cut off the built in GFCI on the pressure washer, replace with a regular 3 prong plug, and plug that into the GFCI receptacle? I'm still protected.
