I remember going to see Deep Purple live at the Greyhound in Croydon in probably 1969/70, it's the loudest gig I've ever been to, I couldn't hear properly for two days afterwards! What a band though.
One of the best rock performances I've ever seen. Camera should have been placed twenty feet from stage dead center. The world didn't get to see Ritchie's solos, but we can hear them. This is MK 2 Deep Purple in top form.
Great clip. What I really love is the honesty of the audio. Instead of splitting the stage mic feeds so they could make a separate mix, it sounds like they just put a single mic up in the hall to capture the sound of the band in the room. This is what I remember DP sounding like when I saw them back in the day.

Deep Purple is DEEP PURPLE, you can't compare it. Ian Gillan is the master of rock voice he is like a teacher for other bands. Also he taught how to insert classical voice into rock bands these accords was like omg can't believe. Blackmore + Lord + Paice + Glover, perfect group ever seen , they did hard rock. They taught how to get hard rock. Other bands are other kind of music, you cant compare it with DP . DP is unique. I love Zep too, i have other words to Zep,like Jethro Tull,LPIE,Kinks,etc

In fact, I know that is what this song is about, the very first time I heard it, as that is where my mind instantly traveled. Led Zepp songs were for the girls. Gillan had a far far better voice. Charisma doesn't make better hard rock songs nor does making lots of money (Lady GaGa). It's just your opinion, let me have mine. Deep Purple far better than Led Zepp.
oh god, i was there! it was at the ernst merck hall, i was 15 years old. and somebody gave me a yellow sunshine pill, didn´t know wat it could be... can remember that there was 3 forbands. stevie young, savage rose and then i forget everything. the only thing i know was that some fool take some drawing pins on the stage because the singer from savage rose allways was barfooted, what a shame...

Honestly I think it sounds so much better with one mic capturing it all, it just sounds way more 'real' and louder in a sense.
