I do think hendrix is the greatest ever and without equal but I agree with you on the whole. I also think Ritchie was far greater than Jimmy page who I always thought was over rated. I also think as a drummer John Bonham was over rated but that's another argument.

That ES-335 plus treble booster and an AC30 is one of the best rock tones ever. His clean playing even at shredding speeds is unbeatable. There was no-one doing anything like this. Malmsteen, Van halen, Vai, McLaughlin and et al. can all pack their bags as far as I am concerned!
There's not much to what you say, Tony Iommi, Rory Gallagher, Martin Barre, Brain May, they also used it and Blackmore didn't use AC30. Mclaughlin, Van Halen, Malmsteen are geniuses who don't need a treble booster.
Blackmore used an AC30 - it is well documented. There is even a photo of him playing one during a gig in pub during the Perfect Strangers era. Look at Vinyl cover of Perfect Strangers.. His early Marshall were modded to sound Vox like. I just checked. There are two photos on the LP sleeve of Blackmore playing a VOX.
Indeed. Mick Barker said that in RB's session days before Purple, he would sometimes set the mains on the AC30 to 240 so the wall supplied 220 (what EVH did with his Marshall using a variac) and sometimes ran more than 1 treble booster into the front end. The pentatonic minor blues and major scales are the perfect simple framework for improvisation. Ritchie uses them as his structural template on the neck from which he can stretch out into the Aeolian mode, the Major Scale, the Dorian Mode, the Mixolydian and more, and then back again, intermingling all the way. The basis is the blues but he stretches it to the limit. So does John Lord, he does precisely the same but because of the layout of keyboards he is able to utilise chromatics in his lines much more readily so there is more fluidity to his phrasing. The juxtaposition and interplay between Ritchie and John is what made Deep Purple such an incredible force on stage. All held together in time and space by the most inventive drummer of his generation, Ian Paice, who swings and rocks as easily as moving water. You won’t hear anything like this today. It’s rock with a jazz mentality.

In just over a month from this, Deep Purple would record the live "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" at Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. That was Ian Gillan and Roger Glover's debut on a Deep Purple album (Their only earlier recorded contribution had been vocals/bass for the single "Hallelujah", released a few weeks before this footage was shot). Their first studio album with this line-up was "In Rock", released in June of 1970.

I tell folks that i was born six days after Woodstock but to learn of this mind-blowing performance two days closer to my birth on the 24th featuring Ritchie Blackmore, my 1st favorite Strat player of my 70s childhood, is truly mind-blowing... WOW!
That was a sweet piece of Purple footage. Reading some comments, Blackmore certainly is highlighted, but don’t overlook Ian Paice or Jon Lord. Technique, speed and musical quality also inhabit them. It’s unusual to see Ian Gillan take a back seat, Roger Glover keeps a solid baseline, but this overall 24+ minute instrumental is great to watch for anyone who likes Deep Purple and all the move impressive since it’s over 50 years old and when MK II lineup was relatively new. Back to Blackmore, his playing is terrific and one can see he’s enjoying it.
Good comment. Ian Gillian wasn’t featured as much on that first tour as he was on the next tour and beyond. That first tour was mostly the original three playing extended jams.Ian Paice has got to be the most underrated drummer of all time. For some reason anything Clapton did after Cream does absolutely nothing for me. I'm not knocking his skill or ability in any way, it is what it is, it's like he lost his edge and played it safe. That being said, one thing all of the above mentioned have in common is the support of top notch fellow musicians playing alongside. Without that it's all just noise.
Lazy Clapton living off the past. Three brilliant musicians, but after Cream it was all downhill. Lazy player, even when you saw him live depends on how he feels. Will he play or be lazy, let his sideKick play. Yes, other guitarists could be just as good if not better. The lazy master who stopped delivering.
Blackmore was a master of unpredictability ... it's hard to explain. He made sense out of chaos and had a knack for speeding toward the wall at 100 mph and at the last second veering off on another tangent altogether. Sometimes it didn't work, most of the time it did. He was truly one of the pioneers and one of the very few with an instantly recognizable sound/tone all his own.
I haven't ever seen this video, this is the first time I've ever seen anyone from that era do sweeps like that before. Only person other than him I've seen was some early Les paul stuff, this is truly amazing 👏
they played their instruments back then! And Purple were upper crust soloists and this much improv was a normal night for them. So many un-recorded performances that were great and never duplicated.
Blackmore, here, showed in reality, why he is one of the most great rock guitar's genious. He created play guitar's rock style who influenced the news greats guitars like Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Satriani, Steve Morse, etc... And, in fact, many, many more. Here we can see what it mean when we talk about to play the instruments without tricks effects or mixing the records.

they played their instruments back then! And Purple were upper crust soloists and this much improv was a normal night for them. So many un-recorded performances that were great and never duplicated.
Perseverantes músicos extraordinarios
Glover without the facial hair! Vintage Purple. Great footage, thanks!
Great improv. This line up came alive Live!
Thanks for posting 🎉
First time ever I've seen Ian Paice use traditionel grip - 7:53 - cool, and he plays jazz and it swings!

Дякую автору!💝 такі відео неоціненні! Здається,ВСІ живі,але нажаль...- ...JON R.I.P ♥. DP THE BEST!!!💜 From 2020 💙💛✌

2 months earlier they had been in Belgium as the Mk1 line up. In between unceremoniously dumping Nick and Rod whilst secretly rehearsing with Gillan and Glover
Very good night for Blackmore. This is very instructional.

Да здесь и реверанс Хендриксу изо всех щелей прёт))
One of the first taped performances of Ritchie with the 69 Strat (midway point) on which he'd write SOTW.....legend has it that Strat met its end as a RB 'smashed' guitar in Boston on a night RB had too much JB in his gut..... great guitar~/Greater Guitarist!
Got to see Purple around '68 in Seattle, Eagles Auditorium.
This must be one of the very first gigs of the Mk 2 line up .
Blackmore smiling and laughing ! They were having the
time of their lives .
clean-shaven Glover is the clear sign it's FRESH Mk 2
Deep Purple is a awesome group, very talented.
