      @@dc7502 In my experience that isn't true, I have faced the bowling machine set to 150 and I found it very similar to actual people I have faced that usually clock at about 130. It's actually way more predictable to play a bowling machine than a real bowler, and trigger movements usually wouldn't suffer since normally you would raise the ball up before you put it in so the batsman has the opportunity to use a trigger movement. Bowling machines also use softer balls that bounce less and have a flatter trajectory.

    To me, Lara is the best middle-order Test batsman of his era. Lara scored 500+ runs in a single Test series in South Africa, in England, in Sri Lanka, and twice at home against Australia with McGrath in the attack (and he mostly did this in Test series where just 4 Tests or less were played). Meaning, at least once he dominated an entire Test series under practically all different bowling conditions (bouncy conditions of South Africa to swinging conditions of England to turning conditions of the Indian subcontinent). Truly amazing accomplishment.
    Love how Lara rose to challenges in his career. In the first half of his career, McGrath got him several times, but in the last 18 innings when they played each other, McGrath got him just once (and that after Lara scored 226).

    Lara still looks so good with the willow in his hands. I'm an Aussie and at different times I have thought Sachin was the best, and Ponting at other times. But now I start to feel it's Lara. As Glenn McGrath recently said, Lara was the hardest of them to bowl to because he never went into his shell, he was always ready to counter attack. I think in the really big moments, when pressure was on, Lara was the best of the three. And I also think he was the most elegant and enjoyable to watch. The other 2 may have better stats in some areas, but with Lara it's the conditions under which he played, his team, and how on his days of brilliance he was another level of untouchable. The other two are still very fine players and all time greats

    • @tosgem
      @tosgem 5 місяців тому +9

      @jackmacfakie1387 yeah I agree. I want to say Sachin and Ponting were also match winners, and I believe that is what makes them better than some other players who may have better averages or more runs or higher strike rates. Ponting, Sachin, Lara did stand out from their statistical peers because they did not bat for their averages, they looked at match situations and came up with plans and executed them with brilliance. They had an X factor. But Lara was probably the best, he had peaks and troughs but his peaks were just so high. The highest. Sachin had long troughs where other players may have been dropped, and then long peaks where he was untouchable. Ponting was probably most consistent, never really out of form until the last 18 months of his career, which dragged down his average a lot. Lara had the highest, brilliant peaks, and had them at the right times, under pressure, with less support than the others. And as I said he was also just the most fluid and beautiful to watch. Looking at the likes of Kallis, Dravid, Cook, Chanderpaul, all with similar or better averages, all with similar runs (more than Lara), there is no X factor, Kallis and Dravid would farm their averages and turn winning positions into draws. They didn't really turn matches, they didn't draw crowds or grow the game of cricket.

      Batsman going into shell is making it a tougher test for himself because he allows the bowler to bowl his best balls. So if a batsman goes into shell and still passes, then it's more creditable for the batsman, than attacking in between.

    Lara demonstrates class. He is a living legend. Watch his hand eye coordination communicating his foot work. It is important to watch his initial movement ( with high back lift ) while facing pace bowling. It is been observed that he uses his inner leg goes across to cover his stumps & tries to play delivery within his body in front ways position ( instead world batsmen uses side ways ). It gives ample time to handle pace & bounce with ease. Further, it gives time to slash a short pitched over the slips with command to score runs or an away swinger to be left it through to the WK. It is true technique to handle pace bowling. He is very strong with his legs ( loves playing within his body ).

      90's Tendulkar had no Peer in style including Lara. Overall Lara had more style through thr course of career. Style is not just about highlights of fours. Lara used to get tangled up by Yorkers and bouncers far too much even in his prime. Too many ugly fall downs and hit on the head.

My 1st live game was Windies vs Australia at the WACA in the early 80's, They were monsters back then! I would have been 7 or 8. Thankyou West Indies for the great entertainment. You deserve the win and deserve to be playing tests with the best. I hope to see more in the future.
