      Exactly! I don’t have the luxury of worrying about what it looks like on me, or whether or not I look like a turtle, or whether or not I have a back gap. I would have to wear the one that is the most appropriate for a flight on any given airline. It would be really nice to hear about how they might function on longer or shorter flights on larger or smaller (budget) airlines.

    I have an older osprey nebula and it’s rated at 35L. It doesn’t feel like a true 35L so I was looking at a replacement for day to day and quick trips. The large aer looks big, and the small resembles my osprey in size. Curious your thoughts on which aer would be similar but better for stuffing gear in the main portion. Thank you.

    I have the Travel Pack 2 Small and one of the things (actually the only one) I wished it had, was the compression straps, so I could hang on a jacket. But honestly, with the magnet system, I dont think it would work well. Plus, the shoe compartment was one of the reasons I opted for the Aer. I dont use it for shoes, but for me it is really important to have 2 different compartments on a backpack (with the option to use only one if I want). I'm really happy that I bought the bag before they have updated it! :) love your videos!

    Hi Tom, as others have commented, can you please speak to how well either of these fit under the seat on an airplane? Hi Tom,
    Nice review. Lots of reviews do not cover the torso fit which seems to be an important aspect of comfort. Although I am far from your height, being 5’8”, but I have nearly 21” torso and most Aer backpacks are 17-19” except the travel packs.
    Would be nice if Aer offered more colors like Bellroy as it seems to compete with their Transit 28/38l packs. The difference is that Transit front pockets are side loaded, water bottles are hidden, and I prefer (personal taste) the color options and materials of Bellroy more.
    The load lifters from Aer makes the pack closer to the back than Bellroy’s.

    • @PackHacker2
      @PackHacker2  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks for watching! Bellroy does have a lot more options in terms of color and materials. The Aer is a dynamic travel pack, though!

    Hey Tom, I'm wondering if you have an opinion on the x-pac vs Cordura versions of these bags? A lot of people seem to praise the x-pac, but it does look a little wrinkly and less uniform to me. Wondering if the price increase is justified.
    Thanks!

    • @bv8143
      @bv8143 2 роки тому

      I’ve got exactly the same question. I’m mostly concerned with durability. In my head I’m imagining getting the X-PAC version of the Travel Pack 3 and having it develop a rip for some reason. But in reality on paper it seems like the X-PAC material is more abrasion resistant. I can’t decide between Travel Pack 3 materials.

    • @keyboardwarriorz
      @keyboardwarriorz 2 роки тому +1

      The high vis inside material for me was the selling point for me on the X-pac travel pack. In travel backpacks most makers put a big premium on high vis. Either way you are getting a good backpack from anyone you choose.

    • @PackHacker2
      @PackHacker2  2 роки тому +11

      Both are excellent materials. X-Pac is more weatherproof but tends to be crinkly. Cordura is known for durability but is known as a heavier fabric. It comes down to your preferences.

    • @bani_niba
      @bani_niba 7 місяців тому

      ALL zippers on the x-pac version are PU-coated water guard. The Cordura version has mostly reverse coil, less water-resistant zippers. This difference isn't mentioned in any YT review that I have seen. Also, most of the x-pac zippers are lockable. I don't know about the Cordura version for lockability.

    Hoping someone can offer some insight. My current EDC backpack is the 30L Recon backpack by the North Face. This backpack also works as my personal item on trips (no issues with it fitting underneath the seat on airplanes).
    I want to upgrade to a backpack with a clam shell opening to make it easier on trips when I want to pack my drone. In addition I’d probably toss in a packing cube, towel, sweatshirt and my speaker. I definitely don’t plan on packing it out to max capacity.
    My question is do I go with the Aer Travel Pack 3 (35 L) or the Travel Pack 3 small (28).
    The 30L in my NF Recon seems perfect. My concern is that the Travel Pack 3 small might not offer enough space and the Travel Pack 3 might be too big. Which ever backpack I get I want to still be able to use it as a personal item and not as a carry on. Again, I don’t plan on packing either bag out to max capacity
    Does anyone else use the the Travel Pack 3 as their EDC carry backpack and personal item for flights? Also, any insight or preference for the X-pac or cordura ballistic nylon version?

    • @B.Miranda94
      @B.Miranda94 5 місяців тому +1

      The Travel Pack 3 is way too big to be a “personal item” on a flight. The only airline I have not had to pay extra for this bag was delta. Even then, it doesn’t fit under the seat, it sticks out too much unless you turn it sideways but that only works in your have the window seat but also if you want to utilize the quick access pockets on the top of the bag you won’t be able to if it’s sideways. Because of the materials they use it’s also a bit hard to “smush” it down to fit in tighter spaces. This is a big bag for sure I hope this info helps out! Even though it’s about 1yr later lol!

From my experience, most low cost airlines nowadays dont accept those measurements as a personal item, you must pay the fee for cabin size bag (even though it is a backpack). You put on and off the backpack backwards, as a left-handed. This is common among those who are not into packs, who by reflex grab with the right hand, but then everything is backwards afterwards. To take full advantage of Aer's desing (and most other top brands) you must start with the left side to put on and with the right hand to put off. You should always swing around the left shoulder for right-handed operation. This applies to side handles, vertical pockets, and often key leashes.
