    I appreciate the data and honesty.. but as an owner of this monitor for almost 2 years now I can say without certain doubt that the "issues" you describe claiming its un-usable as a gaming monitor are rather exaggerated. I play FPS games at a very high level, over $20k in earnings in the pat 3 years alone, and that's without being a content creator or under contract to an org/team. That being said, performance matters, A LOT to me. I've had no issue with this monitor and honestly it was a HUGE improvement over my last. Whatever ghosting and 'fake' response times you say the monitor has clearly doesn't mean shit because I play just fine on it.
    What I'd like to point out though, which is my main talking point here.. is that this monitor only has one (1) single competitor in its class.. that being the G7. These are the only 2 monitors that I can find that are 27 inch 1000R curved with 240hz+ and 1440p+. Now that we only have two options that satisfy those requirements... We take a look at the prices and OH BOY! The G7 is anywhere between $580 and $700 USD. Meanwhile, the Artymis is roughly HALF that price coming in around $270 to $350 USD.
    In my eyes, something that is basically the same spare one small quirk, that is HALF THE COST is not something you should be calling 'Crap' and 'not fit to be a gaming monitor'
    If anyone is here because they are looking to purchase this monitor.. DO IT. I give my word you'll love it.

    I wish Hardware Unboxed would make a comparison of BIOS (UEFI) interfaces of different vendors.
    Some of them are so complicated. I have Gigabyte X570 Gaming X. There is nothing gaming about it. The BIOS structure is confusing and many of the entries are repeated in various sections. Gigabyte X570 Engineering X would be an appropriate name.
    BIOS UI from MSI and ASUS is so much better.

      Especially with a names like 273CQRX-QD, It's highly recommend to carefully check the exact model. While also noting:
      * MSRP: one of the cheapest ones?
      * The relative age: last years model?
      * General specs:
      - 27" VA, instead of TN/IPS?
      - Quantum Dot layer (QD)?
      - Flat or curved (R1000? R1800?)?
      - 120/165/240 Hz ?
      Examples of the names for 27" LCD-monitors by MSI:
      MSI MPG ARTYMIS *273CQRX-QD*
      MSI MPG ARTYMIS 273CQR-QD

      MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD

      MSI Optix MAG271VCR
      As far as I know, as an owner of MSI Optix MAG321CQR (got it cheaply back in 2019...), codes are something like this:
      MPG more expensive lineup, than MAG
      27 panel size is 27"
      272 version 2 of the 27" model in question
      C Curved panel
      Q Quad HD (1440p)
      R Some sort of RGB-lighting
      X extended refresh rate (165 Hz --> 240 Hz)
      -QD Quantum Dot layer (wider colour gamut)
      V ?
      F ?

    Love this channel. You do a lot of good work. A piece of advice from one who has seen a great deal of bad happen to good folks on YT that don't deserve to be treated that way: Upon observing two pongids flinging feces at each other the wisest course of action probably isn't to go and stand by either of them as the probability of becoming inundated with fecal matter increases asymptotically as the inverse square of the distance between either of the pongids and yourself. I don't know either of the two pongids involved but seems to me like letting YT take the hit for settling the dispute between them (or the courts) is the safer course of action in this instance. Just trying to look out for one of my favorite UA-camrs!

    No 1440p monitor beats the G7. The only thing i'll change to is 240hz QD oled. IPS is bad and IPS HDR is a joke. Yes i do have IPS in SDR and top end HDR. FALD IPS is good in SDR but HDR is bloom, crap blacks city. 4k HDR is limited in response times and nothing close to the G7. 1440p 240hz is the best thing and we just need 27" 1000nit HDR oled in that.

    MSI did it. They finally made a monitor named so horribly that even the legendary Tim had to shorthand it in the review for the sake of his sanity.
    Sadly, that's the most "prestigious" thing about this monitor. It's actually pretty impressive how efficiently certain aspects of the monitor (for example, the curve, which is best suited for gaming) negate its few positives (good blacks, great color gamut for a VA, best suited for content consumption when taking into account the horrible dark-level smearing).
    All for basically the same price as the much better Odyssey G7? Hard pass on this, chief. Thanks to Tim for all the hard work he puts into these reviews!

      it was never meant for content consumption, why would u want a 240hz display to watch movies, its just a g7 2 years latter, for more money (the g7 can be found usually discounted due to its age), and its worse in every important aspect, sure better contrast.. like all the other va, samsung va had a terrible contrast ratio for va, the point is, it was still like x2 of what we had.. and KEPT the fast speed

    I bought 2 iiyama G-Master Red Eagle GB2770QSU-B1 4 months ago, for €250 a piece these are great, only the build quality with the original pivot are disappointing, but they are placed on a double monitor stand, which eliminated that issue. Also, the OSD knobs are placed at the bottom of the screen, with the original pivots everything is wobbling when you want to tweak something. But for IPS panel with 165 Hz refresh rate, these are pretty good. I don't use them for gaming, but in a digital music studio with an nVidea RTX Quadro GPU, for music production you also need a monitor with higher refresh rates for metering monitoring. So overall, I'm very glad I bought these without breaking my bank account. I came from an Apple iMac 24" display, but that one is not coming close to the iiyama's.

    To be honest panel definitly has potential, BUT it seems firmware is driving overshoot poorly. Take a loot at 5:47. In places where response time is high, there is pretty much no overshoot, meanwhile in red spots of overshoot, there is suddenly very fast response time. Especially part of graph at "From 51 To 26" sudden red spots of high overshoot, but only 2ms of response time. Then we go to similar spot (from 77 to 51) and suddenly overshoot is gone but response time goes up to 12.9. Pretty much entire red area in response time could benefit from way more overshoot setting while dropping a little overshoot in red overshoot areas wouldn't hurt much. The most noticable part is moving from normal to fastest, top left corner is still 50ms+ response time (yuck) but there is literally 0 overshoot.

    Why curve a 16:9 monitor? Interest lost, even before learning about the shortcomings.

    When shopping for monitor rather than see the "response time" spec, I see the monitor panel technology.
    While it's not 100% correct but most of the time it will be true, TN panel is the fastest but old technology, IPS panel fix TN color and angle view problem but slower, and VA panel have the best best contrast ratios but slowest.
    The newest technology OLED in theory have the best of everything, they are few of them and very expensive so I can't comments of them.

    I sent in my MAG27CQ for a warranty issue and they just sent me an Artymis 273CQR-QD (note- not the "CQRX") monitor as a replacement. The original monitor was LCD and around $250. Did I luck out, or is this even still a bad deal?

    I think that it is still difficult for the naked eye to detect the response time of the panel today (maybe only instruments), and MSI has chosen a color performance that is more perceptible to the human eye. It is a correct way.
    Of course, in terms of speed, it cannot be separated from the evolution of the times. (present :GTG VS past: MPRT)

    • @Longgshot
      @Longgshot 2 роки тому +3

      Except black level smearing is really noticeable. The large difference between the response time of dark colours and the rest, makes the issue pop.
      If the entire panel is slow, it kind of blends / masks the slowness a bit and yea it's less noticeable.
      I've even seen videos of VA panels trying to show a starry sky, and in a static image it looked good, but when in motion the stars just completely dissapear. xD

    • @MLWJ1993
      @MLWJ1993 2 роки тому +1

      Dark level smearing is really obvious, you'd wish the whole panel was slow at that point.

    If you want to i would love to see what you say about this VA... i bought it as a replacement for a LCD thats old enough to proudly display LED Technology on its roughly 1" bezel...
    not expecting a favorable review but it was cheap and looked decent on paper to me... newegg has it on sale for 230 USD often that is what i bought it at nearly a year ago now.. it was in the top 10 monitors on newegg at one point and is now #18 so clearly people are buying it.... might be worth reviewing...
