Problem is everyone thinks we spend all day just walking about the highlands chilling with the highland coos playing the bagpipes and drinking irn bru and whiskey. Well... the whiskey and irn bru part is true.
Good fun -- but of course, there's nothing 'ancient' about the kilt (and anyway, the 'sleeping bag' length described is actually a 'plaid'*): see Hugh Trevor-Roper's book, The Invention of Scotland. *For North Americans: a 'plaid' is a garment; a criss-cross pattern is 'check'; a multi-criss-cross pattern is a 'tartan'; a particular pattern formula is called a 'sett'. I know: I've had two of my own designs officially registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans : )
As a piper, I've always thought pipes were cool; despite friends who asked if I could play a song called: "Far, Far Away"? . That said, wait long enough and anything becomes cool again.
The kilt, tartans and the entire Highland tradition is an English invention. See Hugh Trevor-Roper's 1983 study The Invention of Tradition if you don't believe me.
Is Roper's book gospel? It is well written and witty but one needs to read it critically with un understanding of who he was and where his sympathies lie. Then ask why an Englishman would even feel the need to write about this.... The best thing to do would actually read this book along with other opposing views to find the middle ground. I can't really trust an author when they put all acclaim into Anglo-Saxon contributions and dismiss those of the Scots as only myth... esp those thinkers of the Scottish Enlighntenment. A quick start would be to read proffessor Celest Ray's review of Roper's work.... again with a critical eye.
At the kilt store: "Do you wear underwear or not?"
Salesman: "If you're renting from us you do!"
A whole lot of nothing underneath the kilt !

Braveheart ignited interest in scottish culture ,in much the same way riverdance did for irish culture and they started in the same year 1994
How strange these tough guys look in a schoolgirl skirt.
Your comment is utterly insulting to Scottish culture!
A kilt IS NOT A SKIRT!! It's a manly clothing!! More than a pants!
@@dennis12dec Totaly agree, a comment marked by stupidity and ignorance.
Of all the instruments it's just awful sounding
