The announcers for this match were so biased against Carla. They almost implied it was a foregone conclusion that Sharapova was supposed to win this match. Good job Carla. It's nice to see somebody win who is so humble and gracious.

Congrats to Carla for finally winning a USO match on her birthday. She's lost so many times here on her birthday including 6-0 6-0 to Serena in the QF in 2013.
As for Maria, I don't think anyone expected her to reach R4 after her disastrous summer so it was a solid run for her.

The NYC crowd was firmly behind Carla. ESPN analysts tried to make you believe NYC crowd wanted Maria to win. Judging by the weak cheering when Maria left the court compared to the cheering when Carla won, anyone can see who they rooted for.

I really think the ITF, ATP and WTA should come together and fight too high decibels with some measures, mainly a sound check, if someone screams above let's say 70 decibel 5 times (separate points?), it's a warning. 5 more times, it's a point lost. Something's gotta be done about this, during training and exhibition she and others can hit just as well quietly.

A strong version of Suarez Navarro. So many injuries hindered her career, but she's a very fine player in various aspects & one of very few single-hander in backhand stroke.
Unusual of her was a good start. This may mean she's fit & strong of which herself is aware! Upperhand was her performance overall. Difference in unforced errors explains the result (20 vs. 38). This is very interesting. Seasoned player, casually Sevastova as well, surviving till this stage could set up extraordinary dramas!! Stick around!
I knew as soon as Sharapova played someone good who didn’t spray balls all over the place, she would crumble under the pressure. And that’s exactly what happened. Suárez Navarro isn’t an error machine like Ostapenko, so Sharapova overhit to compensate. Include Suárez Navarro’s strong shotmaking, mental strength when facing break points, and excellent defense, and there was no way Sharapova was winning this.

The lady version Philip Kohlschreiber. They both have quite similar technique in my eyes. Both of them haven't achieved big things in tennis but technically very correct than some who have achieved.
