As an American I'm ashamed of how the crowd treated her. The booing was inexcusable. It should have been a happy moment for her. She should have never apologized for winning. She deserved to win. She worked hard for this and she should be celebrating in this moment.

Tesia Payne Seriously? I get Serena saw injustice. She felt she was being cheated. But her coach was coaching her. That is a violation of the rules. He said as much. She then broke her racquet. That is a violation of the rules. Then she berated the dude, calling him a liar, cheat, thief and that is a violation of the rules. I think he was too harsh but he was within the rules to do so and it was fair then.Serena was never in control of the match. Naomi was the stronger player from start to finish. Serena was uncomfortable being matched and it drove her to emotion and she cracked and the crowd blinded by love for her booed the consequences of her actions even though they were her fault. They didn't care that they were shitting on a person who won fair and square and encouraging a poor looser. Hence the booing during the trophy ceremony. The crowd was classless and clueless.

Naomi Osaka didn't have any cause to apologize. Despite being younger and less experienced she made up for it with hell of a match and was booed by the unsportsmanlike crowd. She deserved this win and sadly the crowd did their best to ruin her moment.

+Alan Samuel The crowd wasn't booing her; they were booing the officials. That's why they booed when the officials spoke but not when Naomi spoke.

bburg0408 I mean booing at a champion crying and saying sorry... booing at the results is bad enough.

+Paulo Romero You really need to watch the video again more carefully. They most definitely were not booing her or the result.

@@bburg0408 If Serena Williams didn't tell her sheep like audience to 'stop booing and be positive' before Naomi got on the mice, if that was the case then they would have directly booed at Naomi. But luckily for you, the great shepard Serena Williams made herself look a little better by ordering her followers to stop booing before Naomi got to speak. And we all know what the audience is capable of, what are the chances? Besides, they looked like they were booing at her anyways. You could tell by the look on Serena William's face, otherwise why was Naomi crying whilst the crowd was booing? And why did Serena Williams hug her to make her feel better? I know you have a brain and you're not stupid but please don't act like one by defending Serena Williams. You also said that they weren't even booing at the *result.* Are you fucking serious!? Loool I'm done.

Ghost Tannous Naomi said she was confused as she didn't know if the crowd was booing her or not. But she said Serena told her they weren't, so she felt better. So it's not a fact that they were booing Naomi because even SHE didn't really know herself. You saying the crowd didn't boo Naomi because Serena told them not to is conjecture.

The public was horrible with Naomi for booing during the ceremonial, regardless of what happened in the game, she did not deserve it.
