CLIP DESCRIPTION:
George (James Stewart) regales Mary (Donna Reed) with all of his dreams for the future.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
This is director Frank Capra's classic bittersweet comedy/drama about George Bailey (James Stewart), the eternally-in-debt guiding force of a bank in the typical American small town of Bedford Falls. As the film opens, it's Christmas Eve, 1946, and George, who has long considered himself a failure, faces financial ruin and arrest and is seriously contemplating suicide. High above Bedford Falls, two celestial voices discuss Bailey's dilemma and decide to send down eternally bumbling angel Clarence Oddbody (Henry Travers), who after 200 years has yet to earn his wings, to help George out. But first, Clarence is given a crash course on George's life, and the multitude of selfless acts he has performed: rescuing his younger brother from drowning, losing the hearing in his left ear in the process; enduring a beating rather than allow a grieving druggist (H.B. Warner) to deliver poison by mistake to an ailing child; foregoing college and a long-planned trip to Europe to keep the Bailey Building and Loan from letting its Depression-era customers down; and, most important, preventing town despot Potter (Lionel Barrymore) from taking over Bedford Mills and reducing its inhabitants to penury. Along the way, George has married his childhood sweetheart Mary (Donna Reed), who has stuck by him through thick and thin. But even the love of Mary and his children are insufficient when George, faced with an $8000 shortage in his books, becomes a likely candidate for prison thanks to the vengeful Potter. Bitterly, George declares that he wishes that he had never been born, and Clarence, hoping to teach George a lesson, shows him how different life would have been had he in fact never been born. After a nightmarish odyssey through a George Bailey-less Bedford Falls (now a glorified slum called Potterville), wherein none of his friends or family recognize him, George is made to realize how many lives he has touched, and helped, through his existence; and, just as Clarence had planned, George awakens to the fact that, despite all its deprivations, he has truly had a wonderful life. Capra's first production through his newly-formed Liberty Films, It's a Wonderful Life lost money in its original run, when it was percieved as a fairly downbeat view of small-town life. Only after it lapsed into the public domain in 1973 and became a Christmastime TV perennial did it don the mantle of a holiday classic.

"youth is wasted on the wrong people!" lol!
Never gets old :)
I've always heard it, "youth is waisted on the young"...😁
i sometimes think of that quote when I realize Im wasting my time with something, as im still young and dont really need to commit to something that is soul crushing, such as a terrible job or friends who dont genuinely care for you
I never noticEd that 👏🏻!!!! 😂😂
😂
George and Mary make my top ten list of favorite movie couples. Mary could have easily been just "generic love interest" for George but she's just as memorable a character as he is. They're both hopelessly romantic and idealistic, but also sensible. They go through hard times and lean on each other even when they're at their worst but also adore in each other'spresence at their best of times. Wonderful
Indeed, Mary was the epitome of a woman who helped make a great man, and in return his love for her.
She leaves him for a real g
Me 1, 2, & 3.
“When Harry met Sally” is one of my top ten :)
Fun fact: Donna Reed made that window-smashing toss on a single take. They didn't think she could pull it off so they had a sharpshooter on standby, but his services weren't needed.
Except that’s not a real set in front of her that’s a matte drawing and the sound was added in later.
I like the first story more
She actually sprained her arm and it added 2 weeks into the filming schedule.
This movie is beautiful.
It's more then a movie,it's timeless quote for every generation's dreams and hopes...Even today,in era of smartphones 2018

When he asks her “you want the moon?” you know, long before he does, that he’s totally head over heels. He asks it so casually, as if it’s already a given that he’ll do anything for her. 🥰🥰🥰
"hey thats pretty good"
Vortonic idubbbz
She actually threw that rock and broke the window herself, no special effects !!
Vortonic I had not seen the movie in a while, so when I was re watching it last night I laughed up a storm when George said that.
I’m very surprised there’s not more memes of that
When you like your own joke
That was damn good!
"You- you want the moon!? Just say the word & I'll throw a lasso around it n pull it down... hey that's a pretty good idea."
The most romantic line in all of film.
I was looking for this word 😂✨thank you...
"You want the moon?" No idea why, that line makes me smile. Suppose it's the way Jimmy says the word 'moon'. In that goofy sort of drawl. He had a unique way of speaking, Jimmy did. So uniquely him, I love it. God, I didn't realise how much I enjoy his acting until today. Thanks, Hitchcock, for introducing me to this guy! 😁
Coming here at age 35 i remember seeing this as a boy and laying in bed remembered that line and thought I’d give it a go and see if UA-cam had it. Glad i did 🤓
I frequently say that to my lady. She's a bit of a space nerd and always replies "No. We need the moon right where it is. It's important for so many things on earth, get me something else." So I got her an engagement ring.
Yup they don't make them like they used to. Him or the films. Great ones coming this yr scifi etc, but still nothing like this. A class of their own.
God will not hold him guiltless who take His name in vain, Beth. Repent, and believe in the gospel.
It makes you smile because it’s such a romantic thing to say to a woman
James Stewart. His acting was so natural. I love this movie
I can see why someone would say he’s the GOAT. He’s a pioneer.
But we all know Stallone is GOAT
and then am coming back here and am gonna go to college and see what they know.. lol. 😂😂😂
gender studies! that's what they know hahahhaha
College would whisper all They'd be good for, in George's bad ear.

I Watch it every year. Always makes me cry.
Voice of a generation, Jimmy.
I played Mary in the stage version of Its A Wonderful Life about fifteen years ago. It was such an amazing experience. I also found a friend who looked so much like the part of Jimmy Stewart and begged him to audition and insisted to the director that no other guy would do for the part. It was awesome. One of my favorite movies of all time
I was 18 when I first saw this movie at a girlfriends sisters house, she was about 40 and said this was her favorite Xmas movie, I remember her tearing up and laughing her head off, didn't get it then, one of the best movies ever made about the worth of friends and family, thanks Phillip Van Doren Stern for your short story that gave us this classic movie.
Oh my god😢🥺
@@oldedrislook! Uncle Billy's "little secret" decided to join the conversation
Quite possibly one of the greatest movie scenes in all history
Man, this has so much charm. It's the middle of November as I am writing this and I already feel Christmassy just revisiting this clip. I saw the film on the big screen last Christmas Eve and it was one of the best Cinema outings ever.
what'dyouwishwhenyouthrewthatroooock?
"And then I'm gonna come back to college and see what they know."
LOL. Love Jimmy Stewart!
i heard this sample in "give u the moon" by peep n always thought it was this dude talking incessively to his crush who threw a rock to get him to shut up, its a lot more wholesome then i thought
I always liked how "You want me to kiss 'er, eh?" is shot almost as a fourth-wall break. Of course we want you to kiss her!
I love this movie. One of the greatest of all time.
Is there a more perfect wife than Donna Reed? Jimmy Stewart, my favorite actor of all time.
Audrey Hepburn would also be a cool wife.
+joe s If they ever remake this movie (God Forbid) I'd like to see either Jennifer Lawrence or Daisy Ridley play Mary
+G.C. Bolling This film is old as world war 2 is, so remaking this film into today world something would not work
Alain Delon and Sean Connery are much Better but I have to admit that he plays brilliantly
@@user-rg7td4fy7e I disagree I think stewart is the greatest to ever do it personally
Im a hopless romantic amd often think of this specific scene. The way he looks at her ans offered her the moon. Didnt hesitate or tried to see how it would benefit him. He wanted to give her the moon, as silly and impossible as it sounded, he was more than happy to do it for her. That makes me cry cuz thats how much he loves and adores her
“You- you want the moon? Just say the word and I’ll throw a lasso and pull it down” 🤩
Best line EVER..."What is it you want Mary, what do you want, You want the MOON, just say the word & Ill throw a Lasso around it & pull it down, "Hey that's pretty good idea ' I'll give you the moon Mary, "I'll take it, then what" (George Bailey: ")Then you can swallow it & it will all dissolve see & the moon beams will shoot out of your fingers & your toes & the end of your hair "am I talking too much" (Man) Yes, why don't you kiss her instead of talking her to death (George Baily""Hows that) (2x) "want me to kiss her huh, "Youth is wasted on the wrong People"..Still MY Favorite movie, by far, no holds... No matter who you are..you need to watch this movie.. "It's a Wonderful life" is the best Christmas Movie Ever!!
“…and dance by the light of the moooooonwhatdidyouwishwhenyouthrewthatrooock?…..😂 awesome line and delivery.

The mayor from The Andy Griffith Show. :) "Youth is wasted on the wrong people." That's the truth.
Back when it was safe to chill in your front yard all night without any worries
It’s because people lost their balls. The world is still the same, nothings changed
Sam, Donna reed is the better wife but your Diane is hotter and sexier !
ACTORS today look nothing like real beauty.. So beautiful.
I'm 22, and had a huge crush on Donna Reed as a kid and still do.
I think for today's actresses, Angelina Jolie is one that is naturally beautiful like the classic movie stars.
Got cased as Mary in my school play for this movie! So excited!!❤️❤️
Allison Diaz how do you have all them followers
This movie has always been one of my favorites of all time because of the love, faith, hope and loyalty. I lost hope 5 years ago and my husband stood by my side and never EVER stopped being there for me and it hit me today…I was George AND my father’s name was George and he’s tattooed on my inner left wrist. I don’t know where I would be without my husband’s love, compassion and understanding. I completely understand now why I love this movie so much. DON’T EVER GIVE UP!!!!! YOU ARE IMPORTANT AND WANTED AND NEEDED AND LOVED!!!
I love George Bailey/ James Stewart

That song is stuck in my head now. Buffalo gals can't you come out tonight.
Haha, I love these vintage movies. I originally was brought here from Lil Peep’s song “Give U The Moon”, and one day it dawned on me that it was James Stewart’s voice.
A greater love story than twilight

Lil Peep - Give u the moon
What a movie truly a masterpiece
I wish that old guy would mind his own beeswax!
If the old guy (as a neighbor i know name Bob,) would not mind his own beeswax then the two of them would not even come close to kissing and argueing years later)
Me too damn it
I watched this movie with my dad when i was young maybe six or seven and i never forgot about that line "what do you want,do you want the moon? Just say the word and ill trow a lasso at it" ive been looking for this movie for a long time even my dad couldnt remember what it was called. We used to watch this movie anf the incredible shrinking man aswell and man nostalgia is really hitting me hard

75 years since the timeless classic!!
"Baby I could give you the moon... You know he can't do what I do, Yeah it's true..."
"this is a very interesting situation!"
Dave Harvey I almost cried. That's great, beautiful and wish you all the luck and love that everyone, especially God can offer. You sound like an intelligent and caring guy and I hope for all the best for you. I also want to thank you for that, so now when I feel low or when my best friend, who is like a sister to me, feels like giving up, we can both read this and continue in life with a shot of energy and passion. 'It's A Wonderful Life' does that to me and you just added more to it. Thanks and enjoy life to the fullest even if it's not the best at the moment. Make the most of what you can. :)
yes! yes.. you should enjoy. It really gives me heart to read that people still see the good in things. we all watch the news, life is hard, we need more George Baileys in the world. blessings all.
