We use alcohol in silk dying. Put it in a spray bottle and spray it on the paint after it's on the canvas. It works as a diffuser and makes beautiful cells.
I was actually considering this and hoping it would work on silk fabric. I don't want to go to the expense of getting several alcohol inks and then only use it for the one artform.
loverlyme - when the dye is wet on the silk, spray the alcohol or sprinkle the salt. Salt pulls the color, alcohol pushes the color. My mother was a Shibori artist, I learned all this from her.
Thank you so much Debbie for all the great information saves trying all different products and wasting money. This is a great help to me. Thank you for taking your time and video to give us true information.
Same here have saved the video, you have actually guided me in my journey of acrylic pouring.. else would have ended up with all the wrong oils. Thank you so much dear for taking time and uploading the video
Thanks so much for taking the time to make this viseo. It has taken the mystery of what to use and why out of my total cluelessness and now I think I am ready to get started!
Thanks for the videos. I been looking for different alternatives that are more affordable or lying around the house. I need to be smart and effective for my portfolio for graduate school and my next body of work.
You just answered so many questions, and relieved much frustration! I also had a 🤦♀️ moment, I hadn't noticed the lack of "silicone" notice on my WD-40 can!🤷♀️ Thank You!
Thanks for this video!! It really works!! I thought was the only one out there experimenting with different products and trying to find some mix that works!! Appreciate it from Melbourne, Australia 😊😊
Thank you so much for the video as I have been trying to source the silicone oil where I live but couldn't find it. So I have just purchased the treadmill silicone oil and I am so happy!
I used my silicone Astroglide personal lube and found out that it worked out very well. I found out that it doesn't only do wonders under the sheets. 😆
Thanks for the tips! I have an art conference coming up & really want to try acrylic pouring for some of my backgrounds for my Halloween/creepy themed art (it's a HallowCON) & this was super helpful.
The information is super to know. I am working on several major projects. Haven't started to POURs as yet...but I now I have all the right materials. Can't wait to start. 😃 Very funny JOE STRUMMER's AMPERZAND's & other comments in his string & below the string. Below.....⤵⤵⤵😄
Thanks Kateri. I think there are lots of different options and for people all around the world, sometimes they may struggle to get certain supplies, but most people should be able to get their hands on one or another.
Thank you! I have just started playing with paint pouring and was wondering why i wasn't getting cells. Looks like i'm heading to the chemist tomorrow for art supplies
WOW!!!!! The coconut serum u recommend i have sitting there!!!!Hardly used as found it made my hair 'heavy' feeling LOL wonder why!!?!! Now i can go try a pour like NOW! (nvr done a proper one yet-im not near any hardware shops :/ .....so thanks soooooo much for sharing this! Who'd have thought lol,was just bout to try n find a super cheap silicon n this pops up!!!!!!!!!! CHEERS!
I used Pledge, I wanted to use something I had at home, I looked up the ingredients and it's made of silicone and dimethicone :) I tried it with darker colors, haven't tried it with light colors.
thanks for comparing them. i wish i found this video before i already bought something. i'm curious why alcohol works since it seems a lot different than silicone.
I’m new at acrylic pour painting. When I purchased Floetrol on Amazon, they offered a set that contained a quart of Floetrol and a bottle of silicone oil. I got that set but I have had uneven results with the oil, even though it says “100% silicone oil”. I got cells on my first few paintings but I thought I’d get more and I used a LOT of silicone. Then, I thought I might be using too much, so I only used a few drops like I see various artists here on UA-cam using. I didn’t get cells at all, even after I used a heat gun. Since this was also my first attempt at a swipe, you can imagine that it didn’t go well. I managed to save the painting and I actually really like it but it’s nowhere near what I was trying to do. So, I don’t know it it’s the Floetrol, the oil or both that’s giving me the problem. I just ordered a bottle of 99% alcohol and I’ll see how that works. If it doesn’t, I can always dilute it and use it for first aid.
You are very reason I wrote a comment on this video. WOW is all I can say? And then again I must ask you where on earth do get 99% alcohol? Who sells it? And how much is it ? The suspense is more than I can bare! No really ; do tell! Cheers lady . I guess anonymity through avatars is a very good thing for someone of your caliber. If no one has told you this , I want you to how special you really are. A bright shining example of of taxpayer dollars at work throughout the public education system. Keep up the good work and thanx for keeping faith in the system alive for me……SUPERSTAR
This is so interesting! Thanks so much. I'm just starting out, I cant find s/oil in my town but I have some linseed artists oil; do you think that will work?
My dear I have seen too many videos and they all say something different can I get cells by putting froetrol and nothing else.? And thanks for sharing your knowledge
Thank you for a quick and simple explanation without all the unnecessary chat that so many UA-camrs use! Exactly what I wanted as a beginner.
OH MY GASH!! THANK YOU!!!! First person I’ve found to actually help and explain and suggest other things to put in place of the treadmill oil!

I was actually considering this and hoping it would work on silk fabric. I don't want to go to the expense of getting several alcohol inks and then only use it for the one artform.
Really??? Just plain alcohol?? After you've painted/poured or before you pour
loverlyme - when the dye is wet on the silk, spray the alcohol or sprinkle the salt. Salt pulls the color, alcohol pushes the color. My mother was a Shibori artist, I learned all this from her.
Sacorsha Golden - spray it on while the paint is wet. The cells are different from the type you get with silicone.
Whoever you ate, THANK YOU so much for this!!!!! I have been searching for this answer!!!
Whoever you ate?😂😂😂

Thanks so much for taking the time to make this viseo. It has taken the mystery of what to use and why out of my total cluelessness and now I think I am ready to get started!
Finally someone actually suggested what to use if name brands aren't available. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the videos. I been looking for different alternatives that are more affordable or lying around the house. I need to be smart and effective for my portfolio for graduate school and my next body of work.

Thanks for the great info. Why acrylic paint instead of latex or chalk etc?
I feel pathetic that I'm buying KY lubricant for artwork, rather than it's intended use!
well you don't have a vj so...
Haha! Good one!
You're too hard on yourself Joe. Doing artwork is already a huge proof of vitality for someone who died in 2002!
