My biggest fear- getting stuck on a remote mountain rd. LOL Lord knows I drove on many..Happy that the couple had their car towed. Whew! This area is so serene & peaceful. Now the poplar tree was interesting. Old growth or primary growth probably. So much logging in the tn, carolinas, ga area that eliminated alot of the primary trees

Yeah we decided not to drive all the way up and parked at the primitive camping area and hiked up.
The tree was truly amazing! I wish I knew more about its age.

That poplar tree was huge! Looks like a sketchy drive up the mountain so I might hike this versus trying to drive. Thanks for sharing your adventure in Ellijay! Cheers

Drive was doable, I mean we are in a 2 wheel dr Navigator, so we know our limitations. But I really enjoyed this hike. The first .5 mile is doable and there is a sweet primitive campground with privy where you can park and then hike the remainder .5 to trailhead.
One of our favorite hikes while visiting the Blue Ridge/Elijay area!

@@compassconundrum7095 I don't have four wheel drive and usually ride with someone who does. A few years back, I drove up to Springer Mountain when the roads were pitted out in a Civic. Now, I just schedule rides to eliminate potentially getting stuck. Wrote this down to check out next time we are in the area. Have you ever hiked the Gahuti Trail in Fort Mountain State Park? It is just down the road from downtown Ellijay.

@@compassconundrum7095 Little over 8 miles and it is a great hike in the cooler months when the leaves are off the trees! Cheers
