Only if these videos got recommended. I found these videos on an extensive search for the best music theory lessons on UA-cam, I had to search extensively or all I got was Marty Schwartz and every other schmuck on UA-cam. Not dissing them.
I am a self taught guitarist and learning from internet is so hard and the progress is so slow. But damn, youtube algorithm blessed me with a very good Teacher, now I can feel that I can improve faster
As a beginner to guitar soloing, I have watched tons and tons of videos, including those from world renowned players. This is the only ones that really help me to see how to start playing some music. Tons of good players there, but so few can teach. This is the kind of video the student needs. Thank you so much!
Oh my god!!! I was looking so hard and so long for such an explanation! All the other stuff just overwhelms you with unnecessary info but wit this I can finally start learning something. Thank you very much sir!
Great video. You really break the main idea down to an easy to follow lesson. I've watched countless triad and playing over chord videos but this was especially helpful. No other tutorial explained the idea of passing tones between starting and landing notes this well.
The UA-cam algorithm added your videos to my playlist and... Wow! I never thought I would understand the application of scales to learn to play lead. This video is a blueprint to learning the application. I learned more in this 12 minute video about playing lead than I have in the last 2 years. Thank you!!! ... Subscribed
This!!! This right here is my guitar university! When I first started I felt it was too detailed for my 'easily distracted, social media brain'. But once I started paying attention, it's so much valuable insight. I am really glad I found this channel! Subscribed
That was what I was looking for so long. Simple concept that gives you starting point for building up. In most of the lessons out there, people are like: 'We start here... then... You hear that change?... Let's try something else... Experiment... Do this...' How a beginner is supposed to understand such 'explanation'?! Cheers for that lesson!
Honestly Mate. I go to Music Uni in Manchester and I’ve learnt more through using your website and videos than I have at Uni. Not to say I haven’t learnt a lot there but these are just so informative. Thanks for everything.
the way all these fretjam vids are organized, dictated, presented, edited... literally everything about this library of knowledge is top notch. cheers, and kudos to you guys. seriously tackling an entire system of artistic communication in the clearest and most effective way. marvelous
Good. To the point with no annoying intro or tedious guitar sounds. I like how you focus on note-numbers (from the scale) but also mention the chord-tone numbers. Exactly how I teach. I'll check out your other stuff.
Your lessons are incredibly useful, clear, and well-explained. All of the information and examples are so relevant and rich that it is going to take me a long time to assimilate so that this comes out in my playing, but the 'journey' will be a fun and rewarding one. I have been looking for this kind of information for a while, and am so glad that you are out there. Many thanks.
Oldie but goldie. Fantastic explanation and crucial for anyone who needs guidance for more sophisticated lead guitar writing, instead of just aimlessly wandering and seeing what sticks.
sir,, lots of thanks. you are doing great sir. i just started learning major scales and my teacher gave me chord progressions and told me to solo over that. i was hopelessly wandering in and around the scale but nothing was really happening. after seeing your lessons, i think i can now produce something meaningful. thank you sir. :)
Wow. I’ve searched everywhere for this simple explanation. As usual always a great visualization of how you should play versus how you shouldn’t. One of my favorite videos from fret jams.
The only lesson (including your part 2) that I have found on UA-cam that explains soloing over chord progressions effectively, in an easy to digest manner. Great work mate!
OMG, a great lesson. A very consistent and helpful approach "start with two chord notes, than add one note between them, than add scale phrase between them". Many thanks and really appreciate your work on these lessons!
Man. This was right on time. “Starting” and “landing” notes, with “passing” notes in between. I think I finally get how to make a phrase. I wonder if he’d do one for jazz bebop soloing?
ive been playing guitar for years with wandering solos. Thanks for this tutorial . now i can use this to improve or correct my soloing style. God bless.
Year 2022 and there are still no such clear, useful and motivating lessons. I advise going back to school and taking note in a notebook of all the lessons regarding harmony and chord progression. Now it's my personal bible.
Really great intro to improvising. Been playing many years but always just learned songs. Wanted to learn to improvise beyond minor pentatonic blues and this explains it really clearly. It's knowing where to start that's hard sometimes
Thank you so much. This is an oooold video! I could do a lot better now and should probably redo it. But it's good to know it's still helpful in some way.
Anyone else had multiple light bulbs come on during this lesson. It literally felt my theory light bulb in my head become brighter and brighter like turning up the dim switch. Great lessons!
This is the first time I see soloing (on guitar or any other instrument) so beautifully explained. It certainly adds a foundation that could, perhaps, be lacking if you started playing 'by ear'. Thanks heaps for the lesson.
Hey, dear Fretjam! I assume it's just a technical bug, but could be useful for people watching this wonderful lesson to point out that 6:36 shows the notes B and E on the fretboard, whilst it is obviously E and A that are played and being referred to (i. e. The M3 of C Major and F Major, respectively). Surf on!
Sir, i wanna thank to u for this lesson. Searching many videos like this and still got it yet then my algorythm yt recommend me this, sooo grateful to see this lesson And maybe i cant donate u, but for changes ill not skip ur ads. Cheers 🤘
I teach my actors details and a methodical approach that conveys the essentials simply and clearly is a must For guitar players. You do not need to look further than fretjam.
You have a very nice way of teaching this. I never understood music theory better then this. I found these video's at just the right time in my guitar progress to spice up my playing. Thank you very much. The series is awesome!!
It's insane how music is so interconnected. In a lot of ways it's just like math and on the other hand it's an artistic web of possibilities. A little after 5:40 you explain how the sixth of the c major scale is the major third of the f major scale; well I've heard this kind of thing before, but every time I do hear it it blows my mind. It's all about relations. You are like free Berkeley! 😉
Applying the note selection rule taught in this lesson by Mike Beatham, I used masking tape on the guitar to notate the letter notes of the scale in the lesson. Turning up the Gmaj,Cmaj,Fmaj backing track, I set up the keyboard plugged in the Fender and took care to play the only the notes Mike selected then tried a few of my own. In both cases, the piano keyboard and the Guitar, the harmonies were very gratifying. For the first time (2.5 years) I just got a hint of what its like to know what I'm doing in music. Great course Mike. Your email lessons are excellent. Mike in PA-USA
+MT Mals Opps....sort of correct...only used the wrong downloaded backing track and didn't write the notes around the 8th FRET. What a mess. But fixed it this evening....have correct backing with correct fret locations. Now will break out the piano and guitar. Hey I'm learning. (I did hit one or two harmonizing notes earlier and it sounded great :) MT
+MT Mals There's nothing (much) worse than banging your head against the wall, trying to learn to play some kind of decent solo, but then there's nothing (maybe a few things) more gratifying than being able to construct a decent solo, and actually know what you're doing in the process. Mike is the best instructor, by far, that I've ever ran across, and I'm older than dirt.
Great, great info. If only the internet were available when I first started learning how to play. This breaks it down better than any lesson I've ever taken. Subscribed!
It does help the majority of musicians to know their scales, although as your ear develops you may eventually think more in terms of individual note selection rather than "this scale goes with this chord sequence". I personally found scales helpful to learn, if only for the fact it helps visualise a group of related notes on the fretboard.
Thank you so much for this video. A learning guitarist like me can't do anything but appreciate it. You are really making the "world wide web" a better guitar player! Looking forward to have a look at part 2, when it arrives some time. Thank you so much once again! I'm definitely a subscribing fan of yours. cheers
this guy makes better lessons than anything i've ever watched or read in a book!
+Malcolm Ng Too kind! Thanks mate.
absolutely agree
this is God
HI, where is backingtrack link? thx;)
I think the same. It is my favourite chanel on YT :D
Finally. Someone who breaks down theory instead of just showing us thirds, sevenths and arpeggios.
Well, I've learnt more and better from your videos within 4 days than what I've learnt over these 5 years.
Good
Only if these videos got recommended. I found these videos on an extensive search for the best music theory lessons on UA-cam, I had to search extensively or all I got was Marty Schwartz and every other schmuck on UA-cam. Not dissing them.
'Wandering aimlessly up and down the scale' describes my playing perfectly even after 15 years!! 😁
15 months is still okay but 15 YEARS???
I'm like a squirrel lookin' for a nut!
What took you so long?
Lazy describes me to a tee
Same here

That's a very nice gesture, thank you. Comments like that mean more to me than any monetary donation, as cheesy as that sounds.
You’re the best man. It feels like you taught me everything I know
Oh my god!!! I was looking so hard and so long for such an explanation! All the other stuff just overwhelms you with unnecessary info but wit this I can finally start learning something. Thank you very much sir!
So hard and long you forgot to say no homo
Great video. You really break the main idea down to an easy to follow lesson. I've watched countless triad and playing over chord videos but this was especially helpful. No other tutorial explained the idea of passing tones between starting and landing notes this well.
best guitar lessons I've found so far. Better than person sitting down talking without any pictures related to context. Thank you
The UA-cam algorithm added your videos to my playlist and... Wow! I never thought I would understand the application of scales to learn to play lead. I love fret jam so much! I always come back to these lessons. The website alone is responsible for teaching, and expanding my knowledge beyond belief!
Honestly Mate. I go to Music Uni in Manchester and I’ve learnt more through using your website and videos than I have at Uni. Not to say I haven’t learnt a lot there but these are just so informative. Thanks for everything.

Probably one of the most informative and well articulated guitar lessons I've seen on the internet.. No doubt about it..
Thank you. Nothing like great teaching. A rare thing indeed.
this is THE best guitar lesson I've seen in months, just what I've been searching for.
Thanks for putting this out there for dummies like me trying to learn guitar on my own at 50. God bless!
Oldie but goldie. Fantastic explanation and crucial for anyone who needs guidance for more sophisticated lead guitar writing, instead of just aimlessly wandering and seeing what sticks.
Like many people have said, these videos are helping unify the theory and the ear better than any other source I have found.
You're the best teacher out there. I really learn from you. Thanks!

I would've liked to see this lesson before 2018..
Keep on rockin man!!
The only lesson (including your part 2) that I have found on UA-cam that explains soloing over chord progressions effectively, in an easy to digest manner. Great work mate!
Your lessons are beautifully done! Excellent combination of visualization and audio articulation.
I spent so long looking for a video that explained this! This is great! Thank you so much
can belief you r teaching these all for free
+Protyush Bora Donations always appreciated :)

Excellent starter. I played for 30 years, now I've been learning how to play. :)
One little piece at a time //thank you so much for all you do ,cheers mate from New Orleans Louisiana
Great job-your teaching of theory is made somewhat easier than most guitar teacher. Again thanks for your simplified fret board logic.
This is seriously one of the best guitar lessons I've found. God bless you man.
Really great intro to improvising. Been playing many years but always just learned songs. Wanted to learn to improvise beyond minor pentatonic blues and this explains it really clearly. It's knowing where to start that's hard sometimes

@@fretjamguitar can you put one which shows the best landing notes for each chord...please...
You Sir have my respect and subscribe! After so many time of studying I finally got the basic concept of phrase construction thanks to You!
Anyone else had multiple light bulbs come on during this lesson. It literally felt my theory light bulb in my head become brighter and brighter like turning up the dim switch. Great lessons!

the God of the Hebrew bible is real and his name is JESUS

Best lesson on UA-cam
Reminded me of Imagine by Lennon . I am happy to realize at least some of this i do by ear automatically. Excellent lessons.
Thank you so much man. VERY use-full lesson, best explanation on youtube!
Great, great info. If only the internet were available when I first started learning how to play. This breaks it down better than any lesson I've ever taken. Subscribed!
My favorite UA-cam channel by far! Thanks for you work, youre awesome!

I can't find the backing track for this lesson
straight to point very simple ....real master explanation ...God bless you
My first video of yours. Excellent, my friend.
Amazingly good lessons. Clear, on the point. Many thanks for your passionate work.
Who could possibly dislike this video? It's fantastic!
His competition. Especially being that their not even close to him.
I can't imagine a better explanation of the subject
Like BisoKuna says, finally the video I've been looking for. Great job! Very valuable indeed.
great info. thanks. I will engulf the essence of this lesson over time.
I NEED A GUITAR TEACHER LIKE YOU MIKE!
Thank you so much for this video. A learning guitarist like me can't do anything but appreciate it. You are really making the "world wide web" a better guitar player! Looking forward to have a look at part 2, when it arrives some time. Thank you so much once again! I'm definitely a subscribing fan of yours.
cheers

Perfect, clean lessons, thanks
Really helps with the song writing process, thank you!

Another outstanding video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
This is a great lesson man. Highly recommend your channel, excellent info.
Always enjoy your lessons
Your freaking awesome! Thanks dude! I've learned so much from your vids! Thanks again and keep it up.
By far the best and clear to follow lessons on UA-cam. Is there a link to the backing track for the Cmajor Fmajor progression please?
thank you sir, I have visited your site and I am able to delve more now on the scales 🙂
