Interesting, but I must say it would have been better if you had done a couple of things different, (a) the sock could have been slipped down the pipe a little further part way around that bend, (b) before freezing and cutting the pipe the pipe should have been properly cleaned for the new compression fitting to seal using either wire wool or scotchbrite in a rotational manner until the pipe was shiny clean, doing this first saves time whilst the pipe is frozen, (c) paste should not be added inside the fitting as it will get washed along the inside of the pipe and clog up any small orifices such as ceramic discs etc in taps.

Yes I did say the sock should be further down and no need to clean with the pipe for compression.
The paste was only put around the olive and not put inside the fitting.
