This is one of GBK’s hidden masterpieces. 2:19-4:53 is a powerhouse of a riff. Easily one of the top heavyweight contenders in Gelal’s Arsenal Of Black Metal Glory, I push it even further to say it qualifies as one of the best riff sections in ALL of black metal. Period. There are 2 types of GBK Fans. 1 type fall into the category of those who “listen” to GBK. These people are diehards in their own right who listen to them on their ride to work, at the gym. On the job site, at their house with some friends over pounding beers and having a good ol time and want some good, heavy fucking black metal blasting through their speakers, and so on. Which is nothing wrong with at all, not here bashing or trying to place anyone above or below anyone. They like gbk and know what’s up. The 2nd type of GBK fan “HEARS” GBK. The music fucking runs through their veins when they hear it and literally gives a damn near 100% identical feeling to that of loading a syringe with heroin and shooting it. Yes I can speak on that as I have shot heroin and I also experience the GBK rush and the euphoric feeling that completely washes over your entire body from head to toe, takes your breath away for a second or two, and leaves you with goosebumps and the hair on your arm raised is insanely identical. We hear gbk and the absolute mastery that they posses. Their songs literally play out in our heads in visual form. We can see the picture being painted that we hear in audial form. We hear the intricate details of the riffs that the above mentioned don’t necessarily pick up during their casual listening. The songs make sense. It’s not just a song for the sake of being a song. It’s a song that has 100% “emotion” involved in making it and those of us who hear it can feel it. This song is very deep and hateful. Not fake hate either. Pure genuine hate and disgust. You can hear it in the music that GBK means fuckin business and ain’t playing around. The time stamp of the section I pinned above is MONSTROUS. Heavy as FUCK. A different kind of heavy that you won’t hear anywhere else. Some complain of some GBK riffs being repetitive. Well when you have a absolute gargantuan riff such as this one, who cares. Shit, even gelal knows this riff is the fucking shit so he said fuck it, I’ll play this bitch almost 3 minutes long. I get the feeling that once he got to the point in this track he didn’t want it stop. You can HEAR at a certain point in this section (I will come back and pin the time stamp later) that Gelal is fucking feeling the hell out of this riff and he’s jammin hard as fuck to it. The other type of GBK fan would easily miss it (nor probably even be thinking about such a thing) but those of us who HEAR it know that the only thing in the world that mattered right then and there for gelal was playing this riff and you can hear that extra “UMMPH” go into the guitar playing. Not long after the whole band follows suit and they all know this little 2/3 minute piece of a song is a masterpiece. There is a lot going on on that fretboard for this riff. If you are listening you won’t really hear a whole lot. If you HEAR it, you can hear every note played and the brilliance of this riff. I’m gonna stop now cause I’ll be here all night doing a forensic analysis of this section of the song. I’ve been a GBK fan for 22 years. I have studied Gelal’s guitar style relentlessly. I can say with 1000% certainty that Gelal is the without a shadow of a doubt the best, most skilled no nonsense guitar player of our lifetime (that we are aware of). Probably some homeless dude somewhere in Europe sittin on the street playing songs for peoples change that is the worlds best unknown guitar player haha) Be glad we are alive during this dudes era. He is hands down the best songwriter of our time. Clapton, Halen, Jimmy, etc etc, the ones who are recognized in the rock world of being the worlds best guitar players can’t hold a candle to Gelal’s style and songwriting. They just don’t.
Thanks again! All Gorgoroth covers coming to my channel for the rest of the year will be from the King/Gaahl era onwards, because the plan is to do a first 4 albums collab run with Tyrant starting in 2024. Those 4 monoliths deserve to be posted back-to-back and in full, which is why they're being saved until then
@@afra_r ua-cam.com/video/Tcrn--L2_5k/v-deo.html Hopefully YT doesn't delete my comment. You'll see that Gelal actually doesn't slide from the 7th on the A. He just plays 2 on the D I think.
Loooool no idea how I missed this since I do remember checking out this vid. Love the colossal fuckups in the last act of the song. The 7 on the A never sat well with me, but it sounds a lot like he slides way down from that note on the record, which wouldn’t really be possible if it was 2 on the D. I could be wrong though, lots of ways a faux sliding sound could be made
@@afra_r Haha, yeah Demonic looks so confused. Thank goodness the cameraman panned over to Gelal's fretting hand at least. I agree, he could certainly be playing it differently than on the record.
Thanks man, really happy you like them! I have to say I’m only familiar with the British Sabbat, I’ll check out the Japanese Sabbat sometime and let you know
Oh yeah I heard about that. I'll probably check it out when it comes out. Just looked at the website and seems Witness to the Regicide is getting re-released too
Satanicunt will be delayed by a week as I received a gracious offer to collab with the best black metal UA-camr on two Gorgoroth covers
This one probably their best song. That opening riff...
This is definitely up there, but for me Slums of Jerusalem is the GBK supreme masterpiece

5:28 I had to learn this part from a 2001 live video. The tabs weren't quite right.
I actually searched quite a bit but never managed to find a live of this, do you have a link?
