That was the deciding factor for me. I could do everything else and be happy. But forcing me to clear tallies and repaint them was a no go. In the end I sold a lc green ranger and basically broke even on a 59rex
Exactly what I was just gonna say. This figure is poo. But I sold it for good $ after getting it cheap so I guess I can’t complain
stock, yeah, its bad.
as such, I snipped the binocs, removed the poncho (gave that to a kitbash smuggler george lucas), swapped the range finder that came with arc Jesse (one that it came with i feel is bit too big), modded the pauldron using fodder from a modded fordo, and drew the black line on the helmet.
after modded, i really enjoy it, however, i completely agree you shouldn't have to mod it. having the red box rex (my first ever pre-order) i swap the two around on my main display every few months, as of writing this just put the red box on shelf.
still, my biggest complaint (which is the same for red box rex) is that the chin always pokes out from beneath the helmet and (with the full pauldron for both) he cant look to his left.

I started with Bad Batch Rex and was really disappointed. Good to see someone really light into how awful that Rex is compared to 59 Rex.

The only Rex figures I have are the original 3.75 cw release and the first 3.75 inch phase 2 armor in that darth maul packaging, I wish they’d make these characters that appear in the animated shows look how they do in the shows and not making them look live action, the reason I didn’t pick up the ventress 6in fig

I customized him a bit by removing the poncho and macrobinoculars, gave him a pauldron piece and added more paint to him. He's the definitive Rex in my collection.

I bought one of the AliExpress troopers who had the correct pauldron and modified that by adding the existing amo pouches from this red and then display rex with the new modded pauldron instead

I modified mine to resemble the old version. It's obviously not as good but for rn, it serves its purpose. Hopefully they do release an archive or rerelease the og in a CW box.

I passed on this figure, even in the midst of the EE re-issue of #59 Rex debacle, and I still have no Rex. I'm cautious about the new speculation about a re-issue, because I really want to see Rex on the 2023 base body (why else would Appo have two vertical hinge trigger finger hands if they're not going to do dual-pistol officers) and Rex is an obvious choice.

Hold a uv or black light flashlight to figures to see the quality u will be in awe in the way the black light registers a bad plastic

I bought him on sale for $20, cut the binoculars off and threw away the soft goods. I also used a shock trooper pauldron and painted it blue. Now he is essentially the $100+ version. Should I have to do all that extra work? Nope, but I saved some cash in the process. If there is a 2023 body rendition I will upgrade for sure.

Hello Nate and Justin I unfortunately missed out on the original Rex figures so I have to use the Bad Batch version for now.
We know that Rex is going to be rereleased because of Yackface, but I'm wondering if they will rerelease the original or the Bad Batch version ?? I definitely want/need the original.
If they rerelease the original I'd think he's most likely going to be an Archive wave figure. If they release him in his original box then he'd most likely be the only figure in the case because of the packaging.
Yeah this version of Rex has his problems but for those of us who don't have the original, he's the next best figure. Also I don't have Disney Plus so I've never seen the Bad Batch other than clips. So I'm ok if he's a bit inaccurate under the cloak you don't see his paldren and you don't see his clean belt, so it kinda works for myself, for now. And I kinda like that his helmet has the binoculars and the target enhancement, he's prepared for what is coming. lol

Dang. Never knew how many things were wrong on this version. I knew when I seen the promo pics and he didn’t have his Pauldron, and the random binocs they gave him that I was gonna pass on this one. Which is why I don’t own it.
Sad to see such an awesome character and previously amazing figure get this kinda treatment.

It's my only Rex and I agree with you on all the issues...the helmet and pauldron wreck my head but it'll have to do until we get the re release.....for now he's standing behind Wrecker in the background of my display.

@@davidedge2828I don't know Davey. I was never able to get the original Rex, but I've got this version of Rex. He's not perfect but he is decent IMO.
So I only have him at this time. I'm waiting to see which version of Rex is getting rereleased this year. I hope it's the original, but I'll have to wait and see.
@@theperceptor9287 He is OK Tom. I have his poncho on and tbh, I've never particularly studied the figure. He stands with my "Batchies" and looks like Cpt Rex from the show. My red/black box Rex had a loosey-goosey leg from new as well. I pick him up and the leg flaps around!
@@davidedge2828 That really stinks about his loose leg. I guess it happened during the Clone War. Is that the leg General Grievous cut off with a lightsaber and then Anikin reattached it using super glue and toothpicks ??
I have the the original rex & passed on the bad batch one because it just looked off in the reviews that is seen back then,If the rumours are true hopefully the original rex is getting re release for people who don't have it,I gotta have a bit of a rant of this dot matrix paint thing that hasbro use because it can be a figure killer, for example the reminant stormtrooper & this rex,hopefully they use a different paint application system in the future, great vid as always, keep up the good work

I customized this figure to imitate the 59 Rex like y’all mentioned, and although the base figure definitely sucks in a lotta ways, in the end it was a cheaper alternative to make my own definitive Rex! Great video guys as always

I thought this was a joke video at first! I didn't realize there was this much dislike over the figure. I know it's not an accurate figure, but I really like it. At the time it came out I was moving, and it was shipped to my old address. I had to go through quite a feat to pick it up, so I think I was always just thankful to have it (my opinion on this figure is probably skewed because of this). Wasn't the price point on this because it was a Walmart exclusive and not a deluxe? I could be remembering that wrong...

You guys just don't get it. Bad Batch Rex is a banger, and so much better than the original with just a bit of work.
All I had to do to fix Bad Batch Rex was, remove the pauldron, take the head, helmet, and pauldron from the old Rex, fully disassemble this figure, spend several hundred hours meticulously recreating injection molds of the pieces, source the raw plastic used for the original from a landfill in China, purchase my own injection molding machine, buy an industrial photoreal printer from a guy in France, source the inks and paints used on the original Rex from a shady back alley dealer in the Phillipines, make all the parts using the OG Rex plastic, print/paint, and assemble the figure.
Jokes aside, I'm glad the original got a repack.

YOur mistake was using the guy in France. The guy in Ireland is much better.
It's not unlike Hasbro to do this, they even do it with TVC figures as well. I remember Casian Andor in his Imperial trooper disguise they made, and gave him the boots from a different figure, instead of screen accurate boots. But I am sure there are lots more examples. People often defend this by saying tooling costs and saving money! by which never gets passed on to us the collector.
Yeah that Cassian in TVC came down to "budget" as per one of the Hasbro designers. Luckily Black Series got the more accurate version of that Cassian, lol. -Justin
I would take either the version from Rebels or it would be cool if they do one to add to Fives and Jesse from Clone Wars.

I just need a Rex, so I had to get this. And... yeah, it's a placeholder. The _second_ a new one comes out or they reissue another one, he's gone.
The plastic was really noticeable for me too. It just looks... cheap. It looks genuinely damaged. Which is better than the weathering/battle damage. It looks too "applied," with no subtlety. It's something you'd get from a customiser's first time weathering.

Hola friends!! Well, in my opinion, they did overdo it in making this deluxe figure, but I didn't think it was the worst. However, the weatheingr is actually horrible. To date I have this figure in Pre-order at BBTS. It seems to me that it will be ready for delivery in the second quarter of this year. but I kind of don't believe them 😂

The bad batch rex also suffers from the same problem as battlefront jet trooper. His lower legs are reversed! I decided to spend the money on 59 and forego the bad batch version. Way too much to customize!

I agree I do have the figure only because I didn't start collecting outside of Boba Fett figures in 2021. So way too late to get the original Captain Rex. I don't like it however I paid $20 for the Captain Rex found it on the Walmart website a few weeks after it's release never saw it after that.

guys i got the newly not yet announced rex shipping to my house for only $12 i thought it was a scam this guy also shipped me 2 187th battle packs for HALF OFF. I thought it was a scam but it is really in transit i am tracking it live with the shop app... i am shocked guys i dont think anyone knows but me it is going to be the convention exclusive one with the shiney blue box.

Great video fellas! TBB Rex is definitely one of the figures of all time. The price is definitely wack and that aftermarket price just keeps going up and up. Thank goodness we seem to be getting an Archive or Rerelease of 59 Rex, it’s not as good as new one but it’s better than nothing!

That being said though, I would only buy a Rex to go in an Anakin, Obi Wan, Cody, Rex display, and I don't have any of those yet either so kind of a moot point haha

I hope the current rumors of Rex being re-released (points to Lukeness and Yakface) are true this time... Hasbro just made a Rex Helmet too.
He was in Ahsoka again so there is current media excuse to re-release him now. (or make a new one with Phase 1 helmet, either is fine with me as long as it is screen accurate)
But what i really want is for Hasbro to re-make all the Clone Commanders and add new ones they missed the first time around on the new 2023 body.
Those old double jointed legs and arms have those huge black round cutouts in the white armor for the pegs... that is truly outdated and worth re-tooling.

Okay so here’s the thing, I do agree with you guys 100% in a vacuum, but ever since Mr. Cawfee customized this to look like the red box Rex and sold it to me, I can’t hate on it. It looks even better than the OG Rex IMO, since he weathered it up and gave it a matte spray. I also prefer the silver welding on the armor instead of the copper/bronze welding.
I also am using his poncho on a regular Phase I clone trooper to make a member of Hawkbat Battalion from Tartakovsky Clone Wars, so that’s useful as well lol.
Don’t forget tho, Rex isn’t the only deluxe clone: Gree was! He was also the first “deluxe because paint” figure, IIRC.

The only thing about this version i like is the colour on the wield marks, they shouldn't be fucking rust colour.. its awful.. but maybe i'm better kitbashing when i finally get the older figure in a re-release.
Seems like an easy 2 pack Rex and Anakin(Ahsoka) with an updated Rex.. but hasbro are just so bad.

I don't even remember what kind of review Nate gave it (if he reviewed it), but it's not like opinions can't change over time, right? -Justin
He's definitely a downgrade from 59, but I personally don't see him as being as bad as other clones (like the original Phase 1 troopers, Cody, or Gree).
A. As mentioned, he's on the Rex/Bly body, so he has better articulation than any clone released before 2017.
B. Take off the pauldron, and he's basically Rex from Bad Batch Season 3.
C. One (and ONLY one) area where I put him above 59: that smooth area of his neck between the under-suit and his head is painted with his skin tone color.

The fact he is NOT even accurate to his on-screen appearance in the first season of The Bad Batch and is instead based on TBB concept art is so disappointing.
He's still very much an poor man's TBS 2018 Captain Rex and will never live up to that figure. It also does not help the 2021 Black Series Captain Rex forgot the matte finish for the head as well.

I very reluctantly purchased this one, just to have Rex in my collection (never saw the original release in stores). If Hasbro ever comes to their senses and rereleases the original Rex, this one will be thrown in a bin where it belongs!

Great video. Agreed. They put all the effort into giving him the poncho with that half ass of a hood. In his first seen he has hood over his head. WTF. That was my biggest gripe about this figure since I have both of them but everything y’all said is true. Another half ass attempt on what could’ve been the best version of Rex. I remember pre-ordering it because: Captain Rex, but when the first reviews came in I had to threw up in my mouth a little. I therefore decided that cancelling said pre-order was the best thing to do.
And now, 3 years later, I just hope we get a new Rex figure very, very soon.....

My face when Rex in bad batch season 3 has no poncho and no pauldron and replaces his old armor pieces with shiny white new ones. 😂 so now it's accurate to BB? 🤷♂️

That worked out nicely for you but this figure is based on the season 1 appearance (especially when you consider when it came out) so it's wildly inaccurate. Does he randomly put binocs on in season 3? -Justin

@@OutOfTheBasement Supposedly the figure was based on concept art in which he had the binocs, but that didnt end up being used in the show. Just a flip side to Hasbro doing them early or alongside the show.
I'm so afraid they will be doing the same horrible job on the allegedly confirmed reissue of Rex, which everyone is wafting for. I almost wish they would use the exact same mold, with absolutely no upgrades, just to make sure it will look as good as the original. Same goes for Fox.

Walmart exclusives aren't $30 though. Lately they've been $24.99 but the highest regular exclusive price (for standard figure) I've seen is $27.99 (which is usually Target). -Justin

That helmet painting, the whole body... This just looks like a 2014 figure. If the rumored Rex is a repack instead of a full retool using Appo's buck, it's not a good sign. Fine if it's Archive, but not on the more standard release.

I don't even have a theory what happened here, they HAD the original Rex design, wouldn't it have been *more* expensive to redesign him for BB when the only real difference was a different pauldron? Why are there only *two* versions of one of the most lucrative characters, one of which is not available and hasn't been for a long time? Hasbro, you confuse and frighten me.
Edit: yeah i had to settle for BBRex too; took a hobby knife to a bootleg clone to get a proper pauldron, and removed the Binocs. I'm not overly happy with the figure but he's my only permanent custom figure and i do love Rex as a character, i can't wait 10 years for an Archive Release. What bothers *me* the most is the paintjob, tbh. Not just the weathering (i hate that on every trooper, i want Shineys!) but people tend to shit on everything else (deservedly so) but forget the hair dye. Rex's hair is supposed to be almost invisible. BBRex looks like he's got a wig on.
What's crazy is that pauldron example isn't even supposed to be different. It's supposed to be the exact same look as far as the blue pauldron and black piece w/ painted buttons. -Justin

Rex is one of my all time favorite characters and I’ve been debating on getting this figure or splurging over the top for the Red box Rex and this figure just looks horrible. I’d rather wait and get my hands on a good Rex than get this garbage

I think both Rex's aren't great. I think 59 rex is severely overrated. for the time it was fantastic but I really don't like the helmet on that figure
#59 is superior to the Bad Batch version in every way though. For a 2018 figure it's a banger for sure. Although I'd love to get a Phase I look on that 2023 sculpt! -Justin
