@Synthetic Lord That doesn't make sense. Since Ahsoka left the Jedi Order, she basically left the war effort and therefore could not have been the commander anymore. It’s not exactly news to most that Anakin may be the only Jedi Knight with his own clone legion under his command, and due to that “deviancy” of being below the rank of Jedi Master while still commanding a similar sized clone unit to them, he opted to allow Rex to stay a captain instead of become a commander as a reflection of that deviancy, which wouldn’t be a stretch since Anakin had a habit of bending rules frequently. The other reason I could see Rex staying a captain is that he didn’t like getting dragged into the politics involved of a commander. A clone commander usually was attached to a Jedi Master’s hip when it came to political and military affairs, and having to now negotiate with foreign nationals/foreign military personnel on a regular basis would not be in Rex’s style outside of say a more personal “let’s teach you how to fight” kind of case with the Onderon Arc. Combined with a commander being more of a rear line post directing clones where to attack instead of being at the front would also not be something Rex would be very agreeable to. Seeing as Rex seems more of a hands on commander than most, it would make sense he would turn down a promotion to stay in the midst of his brothers in combat.
When you think about it Rex led a legion not a Corp like say Cody. Sure he led it effectively but the war was only three years. Rex is a good field guy cause he actively puts his troops above all. But that's not a good quality of someone entrusted to lead a significant portion of the war effort when you got to ask "how do I win?" before "What about my guys?"
I would say that Rex could have handled the politics of war. Look at the pantora arc. He had to listen and protect the chairman, or i should say try but still the fact that he had to even discuss stuff with a diplomat is even beyond what he should have done as a captain. Had the 501st legion had more troops then Rex would be a Commander
I thought it had to do with the fact of how close the 501st and the 212th were, due to Anakin and Obi-wan almost always being deployed to the same battleground. Rex wasn't promoted due to Cody always being around was my idea
That's not how it works. They just had more screen time compared to the others. But because there is another commander of another regiment there, does not mean the other regiments can not have commanders, which is a rather idiotic idea.
He didn't hate EVERY clone commander during the clone wars. He liked Cody and Wolffe. After the Clone Wars, he only liked Wolffe and Gregor. Also, he didn't care whether he was a commander or not.
@@TheTrueKingofKoopas in the real world Obi-Wan did it first so that wouldnt explain it until the clone wars, then it just became an on going thing between him and Grievous
One thing i noticed was rex was almost always leading from the front while you were more likely to see cody at the planning tables directing larger engagements. Rex was more of a tactician while Cody was a strategist. Also if you go by the US Army TOE Rex would be about the level of Colonel leading a single regiment specialized in direct action while Cody would be a Brigadier tasked with over seeing several regiments and coordinating the battlefield. Also as other information about the shows has put forward the clone legions assigned to the jedi adopted the "personality" of their generals
A Clone Captain ranks higher than any other clone he was not promoted in the final season he was demoted from captain to commander which is why there is only one Captain
It's Gregor Also Gregor was not a commander, he was a Captain of Foxtrot group, a elite squad of Republic Commandos (Clone Commandos in the Clone Wars animated series). Clone Commandos does not = to Clone Commander. Jesus, you listed characters who not even commanders. Fives and Echo are not commanders, they're Advanced Recon Commandos, a commando is a soldier who are specialized in the field.
I have another explanation: Rex may have been originally a part of the Republic Navy, where the rank of Captain is equivalent to that of Commander. This can make sense as the 501st was formed by recruiting the best clone troopers, often from other units. Thus Rex, having earned his Jag Eyes during Geonosis, we do not know exactly what he did, would be a prime candidate for the 501st.
CaptainCherryz well another way to look at it is that the 501st is in a sense a special ops unit, thus even though he holds a lower rank he has the same authority due to his position.
He didn’t hat Cody. He was very close with his brothers. You failed to mention why he hated clone commanders. He loved all his brothers even ones like Dogma and Fox. He cared for his brothers no matter what.
I noticed that people never put two and two together with Fox and Rex. Rex had the utmost respect for Fox. He gave Fox the benefit of the doubt when he was mad at Ahsoka for supposedly killing his men. Anakin put Rex in charge of hunting Ahsoka because of his bias against Fox. Rex literally gave a single order before putting Fox back in charge, knowing full well that Fox had the experience to catch Ahsoka without killing her. He also recognized that Fox only wanted to capture Fives, hence to why he yelled at Fives to obey. Even after Fox shot Fives, Rex didn't turn to him in anger. At this point, Rex would understand Fox's situation better than anyone else since he was forced/tricked in to shooting his brothers weeks before. An incident Anakin wasn't present for. He treats every other clone with brotherly respect. But, he treats Fox with a higher respect because he knows things that field troops would never understand. He knows why Fox got high marks and medals. He knows Fox works without a Jedi, so he has to work twice as hard to keep his men safe and cared for. You can see the love he has for all his brothers. He doesn't hate a single clone. So yes, I wholeheartedly agree with your comment.
Cody wasn't a mere Commander, he was a Marshall Commander, the highest rank a clone can get, and due to that he leads around 346,666 troops basically by himself
clones were growth accelerated to 25 years old, 5x acceleration for 5 years, and what does Rex being a clone have to do with not being experienced, all clones got different levels of experience, that's how an army works
Commander is an O-5 as is a LTC (lieutenant colonel). Colonels are O-6s so I'd say that rank wasn't skipped. If we're talking a land or amphibious military unit (SEALS are the exception), I'd say clones in Cody's position such should've been lieutenant colonels or colonels, but I guess commander sounded cooler to Lucas Films, etc. Naval forces usually have commanders as O-5s. Obviously, Star Wars mixed and matched rank structures though.
The point regarding Ahsoka already occupying that post makes no sense, as Jedi Commanders commanded their batallions alongside Clone Batallion Commanders and Clone Majors
As I know, Rex stayed as a captain since the whole wide republic knew the 501st was lead under the supervision of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and Captain Rex, both Anakin and Rex were the Chancellor poster boys for the war effort back in the Republic capital of Coruscant, so promoting Rex to Commander would not only be weird, it would also sound weird.
Cody was commander marshal the highest clone trooper rank, not just a commander. Rex not given a promotion is from my perspective because he was better at commanding a battlaion level unite, unlike Cody, who after Kenobi had to take care of the whole 7th Sky corps (a lot bigger then 501st). If Rex would wanted promotion or his superiors would see fit for him to take higher responsibility he would ended up commander, but this was not the case. He was the best at what he was doing and forcing him into higher command role would be detrimental to GAR. For my assesment of Codys and Rexes command style take a look at the second battle of Geonosis and Umbara. Geonosis was win becouse of Cody while on Umbara, Rex and his 501st were surgical strike team as this was what they were best at.

When did he talk about how Rex hated the commanders? And who would believe that Rex hated Cody
They were like best friends, the rank never seems to bei any problem/theme
I always thought of it as the position was waiting for him. But he never cared to take it because he was just to awesome.
Rex: you’re weak
Clone Commanders: i’m you
Im confused why people are liking this video. He never says anything about Rex hating other commanders in the video
Then: “ We have to accept it” David Filoni: “ The hell we do!” Now: “ I was wrong”
...clones could attain the rank of major, which was between Captain and Battalion Commander, also there were 4 commander ranks
"Why Obi Wan said Hello there!"
Because Grevious did it first
@@TheTrueKingofKoopas in the real world Obi-Wan did it first so that wouldnt explain it until the clone wars, then it just became an on going thing between him and Grievous
We all know that he could never hate Cody. Those two were total bros.
"ROGER ROGER"
Best line from Rex
even from that episode alone "you didn't say please" beats "roger, roger"
I miss Captain Fordo so much, he isn't given credit while rex gets all the glory.(Fordo is my favorite clone)
Fordo was one of the best arc troopers around I would definitely bring him to a battle.
Dosen't matter, Experience outranks everything
Dang the clone wars was so good
One thing i noticed was rex was almost always leading from the front while you were more likely to see cody at the planning tables directing larger engagements.
"Rex" in Latin means "King"
Chill out with the click bait bro.
Next video: why captain Rex HATED public urination
The rank under clone Commander is a Major
A Clone Captain ranks higher than any other clone he was not promoted in the final season he was demoted from captain to commander which is why there is only one Captain
1. Cody
2. Fives
3. Echo
4. Greggor
5. Rex
Honorable mention: 🐺
It's Gregor
Also Gregor was not a commander, he was a Captain of Foxtrot group, a elite squad of Republic Commandos (Clone Commandos in the Clone Wars animated series). Clone Commandos does not = to Clone Commander.
Jesus, you listed characters who not even commanders. Fives and Echo are not commanders, they're Advanced Recon Commandos, a commando is a soldier who are specialized in the field.
@@captainflowers748 I just listed my favorite clones. I'm sorry for the misspelling and triggering you. 😆
Yeah no, that is incorrect. If he was transferred from Navy to the army, he would hold the rank of Marshal Commander essentially/
CaptainCherryz well another way to look at it is that the 501st is in a sense a special ops unit, thus even though he holds a lower rank he has the same authority due to his position.
“This is outrageous. How could I be at the front line but not be granted the rank of commander?”
1:20 i love how the clones look at ashoka while she was talking
*HE HATES HIMSELF NOW*
Only for a dew days, because once he removed his chip and betrayed the GAW he was demoted by Jesse
Rex is the GOAT of clones
Except the writers literally came out to saying "Commander Rex" just sounded terrible...
When did they say that ?
Captain Rex will always be the best Clone officer in the series.
Proceeds to be best friends with cody. And cody is not inferior they are on par.
SoundMaster Cody is actually superior.
1:16 Ahsoka definitely said some bull to have those clones in the back turn their heads like that
well this video aged poorly
This video started poorly, it never answered the question and now it just made the video even more redundant
Cody is watching this like: I feel betrayed
Promotion: I'm about to end this mans whole career
Commander Cody be watching like: wtf dude
Welp Rex is a commander now 😅
So tell me, how ranks work in clone trooper. Does it follow army ranks system or navy ranks system?
he is a commander rn
I could be wrong but my impression of “captain” in the clone army is like a lieutenant commander
Haven’t you made this vid already? Or is there some kind of glitch in the matrix?
Captain Rex did become a commander of 332nd and I think 501st because Asoka did leave the Grand Army of the Republic like really close to order 66.
Rex didn’t want to become a commander, but at the last episodes of StarWars Clone Wars he become a commander.
Like how Anakin wasn't promoted to Jedi Master, Ironic
Cody wasn't a mere Commander, he was a Marshall Commander, the highest rank a clone can get, and due to that he leads around 346,666 troops basically by himself
"Experience out ranks everything."
Says a ten year born the same as millons of troops, from the same guy
clones were growth accelerated to 25 years old, 5x acceleration for 5 years, and what does Rex being a clone have to do with not being experienced, all clones got different levels of experience, that's how an army works
Maybe Rex almost got promoted before Ashoka trudged along...
But at least he got the Commander rank in the rebellion
Rex liked commander Wolffe and commander Cody though.
Yeah, he and Cody were best friends, he was also friends with Wolffe and Bly, just not Fox, but no one was friends with Fox
Rex is now a commander :)
Appo skipped SSG, SFC, MSG, 1SG, SGM, 2ndLT, LT, Captain, Major, LTC, COL
Commander is an O-5 as is a LTC (lieutenant colonel). Colonels are O-6s so I'd say that rank wasn't skipped.
If we're talking a land or amphibious military unit (SEALS are the exception), I'd say clones in Cody's position such should've been lieutenant colonels or colonels, but I guess commander sounded cooler to Lucas Films, etc.
Naval forces usually have commanders as O-5s. Obviously, Star Wars mixed and matched rank structures though.
Appo skipped the following canon ranks:
Sergeant Major
Second Lieutenant
Lieutenant
Captain
Major
The point regarding Ahsoka already occupying that post makes no sense, as Jedi Commanders commanded their batallions alongside Clone Batallion Commanders and Clone Majors
Haven't you made a video explaining this twice already?
As I know, Rex stayed as a captain since the whole wide republic knew the 501st was lead under the supervision of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and Captain Rex, both Anakin and Rex were the Chancellor poster boys for the war effort back in the Republic capital of Coruscant, so promoting Rex to Commander would not only be weird, it would also sound weird.
Ironic...
It is pretty sad that right at the end of the clone wars he got promoted to commander then order 66 happened he was barely commander of the 501st
whos gonna tell him
Rex: **didn't get promoted**
Bessy: Rex HATED the clone commanders!
Lmao, Rex is Commander now.
