I worked at McDonlad's in the late 80's and early nineties. We had quite a few kids parties and they were a nightmare. In the end they were stopped because of the destruction of property, the mess, the kids "interacting" with other customers etc. All the things little kids do, but we were only a small store. I remember one particular one was a party of 12 and only 2 adults! We were still cleaning up glitter a week after that finished. It was fun for the kids (we had a ball pool, too,) but for us staff it was a nightmare!
Wow! So glad I discovered this show! Long time oldskool platformer fan, ex NES owner. Forgot how good the graphics could be...super clean. Keep up the great work sweetie x
I love our McDonalds and I have gotten a lot of awesome stuff from them! Like old merchandise in the back room and not as cool as this but I did get the halloween tape from my childhood!! haha
The Donald Land game, feels like an actual "McDonalds" game as the advertising is strong and has references to the items on the menu. The call out to the product placement. Which I also agree, the references are strong.
Please keep it up! I've rekindled my love of playing classic games with friends because of actual positive attention towards old videogames content creators like you post!
You should check out some of the old 1970's McDonald's commercials on UA-cam their kinda trippy. Grimace originally had four arms (I believe) and was a bad guy that stole milk shakes.
So I got a new famicom console for the first time, and saw this video and decided to buy the game. What a fun little game to add to the collection. Thanks for playing and suggesting, I love it!
To answer your question. YES I had a few birthdays at McDonald's. My Mom told me that the more kids you brought the cheaper each kids meal was. She said for 50$ you could have like 30 guests. Every kid got a happy meal and you got a cake and Ronald would show up and take pictures! This was the 80's so everything was cheaper then.
I've also witnessed this McDonald's birthday party phenomenon. I remember that it was a very dark, rainy night, and some ice cream with strawberry syrup and... that's about it; most of my memories of the '80s are just shattered fragments. I do know that I've never seen those hamburger chairs or bar stools before. The McDonald's restaurants out here in the middle of nowhere don't have things like that, but one of them had a big tube filled with water and bubbles, and was lit in all different colors, like a fiber optic lamp. This game seems like a real labor of love; I really like the scenery, but those apples look tricky to use. You seem to have them just about mastered, though!
This Intro's really remind me of Cinemassacre. So Ronald McDonald runs around in a town, fightin Angry Bird Bosses, running around in the forest in the SKY! And fighting a psychopathic lizard whose eyes are freaking out.
I just got learned! I had never heard of this game before. I like pretending that I know everything so this upset me a little. That's at least the second time you've done that. But finally a game that gets it right... fruit is bad and is only used to kill while you need to collect as many hamburgers as possible. They should also have fruit and vegetable icons and if you accidentally grab them you start losing life until you can grab a delicious McDonald's cheeseburger (sans pickle & onion) which gives you back all of your life and maybe even 100 points! However there are two reasons why I would march against this game... first of all is that arc for your throw. Screw that. Second is that music during the sky level. The level already moves at a snail's pace and that music isn't helping. BTW McKids is a clothing store from the days of yore. Maybe that's why the game is called M.C. (emcee) Kids, with the abbreviation periods. Though calling it McKids feels more right since it's, y'know, McDonald's. Also I was totally expecting Donald Duck in this game and am mad that he didn't appear. How dare you.
Well, now I am the one getting learned because I totally didn't know that about McKids being a clothing store! My mind is a bit blown, because I've wondered about M.C. Kids having the "." for YEARS! Maybe it's a "Gun.Smoke" situation. I should have put Donald Duck on the thumbnail to really rile people up. And I would love to see a McDonald's game with all of those features! That does NOT include Sky World because yes, that music is totally effed.
You want to hear some effed music? Listen to Sagat's stage music from the first Street Fighter. Warning though: it causes trauma and may cause you to punch babies and kick puppies.
Great video Erin! I’ve never heard of Donald Land before. It’s terrific, great seeing all the characters from McDonaldland. Cool Erin Plays Lego intro also 😎
The reason why Ronald McDonald is called Donald McDonald in Japan is because Japanese people have a hard time with the r sound (l sounds like r in a Japanese accent) so McDonald's renamed Ronald in Japan to make it easier for Japanese kids to say his name
I love you tube. I rented this game when I was about 15 or 14 years old, and I was so impressed with it in the 80s and I have constantly looked for it but I couldn’t find it and here we are
Hi Erin, I'm new here. I've been watching some of your videos and I feel a good vibe with the way you comment on them. You have genuine happiness when you talk about the video games you know or have and you don't try to be the best, you just try to do things your way and you try to enjoy how much or how little you can do in each of them because you focus on the experience (good or bad) that you feel when playing them and how much happiness you felt both in your childhood and now for experiencing something from that great era (that by the way I also lived). I feel your personality like when I get a new retro game and come to my mind several experiences I lived before that give sense to why I felt the need to own it and play it in the first place, even if I suck at first, because I know that at some point I will return to it, advance it and over all I will enjoy it again because it makes me happy the simple fact of meaning something for my life. In short, I like your content based on retro games and over all, your way of commenting based on your experience and that is why I subscribe. I hope your subscribers keep growing more and more. P.S. I know this is a old video, but I hope it doesn't matter so much. P.S. I like M.C. Kids too. It's a shame that those beloved characters of the Ronald McDonald gang were not important part of the game, but the game itself is cool, specially the upside-down feature. P.S. 27:07 It's funny but I can imagine the stress you felt at that point. Some NES games make me feel the same way at certain points.
Hi! Thank you so much for the nice comment and I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying my videos! I don't pretend I'm amazing at games or anything, I just like to play them and chat. And of course, talk about random memories, lol. Take care!
Excellent video Erin!! Nice game, although that part with the red baloon looks very frustating, and also a little bit disturbing 'cause "Donald Mcdonald" with the red baloon reminds me of PennyWise🎈😐✌
My little brother had a bday at McDonald's. This McDonalds had a special room for them. Full of arcade machines and a creepy McDonaldland pirate ship scene painted on the wall. 😆
I had a McD's birthday party back in the 90s, I believe it was my 5th. There was even a little playset where you could make plastic food. I haven't heard about anyone doing this for a very long time, so I'm not sure if it's still a thing.
I chose to believe that when Ronald gets hit by an enemy in this game he actually enters into close quarters combat with it, which explains the dust cloud and "punching" noises. He can only get into combat a certain number of times before he gets tired and gives up, which is why he prefers throwing bombs.
This weird and wonderful video exemplifies why you are one of only two content creators I choose to get notifications from (the other is Cinemassacre). You’re funny, charming, endearingly nerdy, and your production value is top notch! Thanks for being totally awesome!
Erin is still highly underrated, and I consider her like a modern Little Miss Gamer. You could have made a lot of money if you started sooner but I'm glad your here!
Gotta love the Mac Tonight figures at the start. The trees at 6:00 remind me of the ones in Mortal Kombat II. What was the deal with the nibbler twins at 20:03, the fact that they don't hurt you makes them kinda creepier haha. I end up drinking a McDonalds coffee while watching this. I enjoyed the video.
It's always lovely to watch your videos. You have a cute charm to you that makes you fun, relatable and easy to watch/listen to. Having worked at Maccies myself a couple of years back, most of my fond memories and my current view of it, are pretty disillusioned.
I first heard about this one on the Chrontendo UA-cam series chronicling every Famicom/NES game, but I haven't actually tried it. It looks pretty good actually! Nice, colorful levels, fun art style! Thanks for sharing.
Yay, new video! Haven't had a very good week, but this will help raise my spirits up some. Thank you, Erin! And by the way, those Mac Tonight toys are badass. If an Erin Plays NES homebrew game ever comes out, then one stage will have to take place at night time, and have Mac Tonight singing in the background, perhaps following the stage with the sunset.
By the way, I noticed the Genesis Pat Riley Basketball game poster on your wall. Are you a basketball fan? If so, you should consider doing either that game or NBA Jam, for a video. Preferably the latter, since that was a much better game.
Sometimes I wonder, "Is she actually aware of how cute she is? Is this all natural to her, or is it some level of performance? I mean, either way, right on. Keep doing your thing. But dude... just wow. Also, great game choice. Keep it going, girl!
Hi Erin So After Watching CineMassacre For Years & Mike Matei Live I Came Across Your Channel & I’m Really Enjoying Your Content Btw I Think That You Are Absolutely Adorable You Earned a New Subscriber Also I Can’t Understand How You Don’t Have Over a Million Subscribers Because Your Channel Is Great
Bought this game a few years back cause it looked slightly creepy with that box art. Weird but not bad game. I still want the Game Gear McDonald's game but it costs a bit more than a Happy Meal so nope. Thanks for another video!
I went to a McDonalds birthday party as a child too. As a kid growing up in the late 80s I never had the chance to play this game though I remember seeing it at the video store once back then. Donald Land was also in the NES but I think it flopped in the US market back then coz I only saw the game once back in '88. As a child growing up in Northern California, I had a lot of memories playing the NES and even swapping games with my friends.
I'm not exactly sure, but it must have been at least 4 or 5 times that I had my birthday party at McDonalds. I used every chance to come to McDonalds as a kid. And that really hasn't changed since then😄 Thank you for showing us these fantastic games👍
I always they should make a McDonald's turn-based RPG. Ronald = fighter, Hamburglar = thief, Birdie = healer, Grimace = monk, Mack Tonight = red mage, etc.
OH MY GOODNESS!! McDonaldland was such a part of my growing up in the late 70’s 80’s!! I would love to get this game as I have a Honeybee converter I can use on my Super Retro Trio +, I only played M.C Kidz and Mick & Mack for Mega-Drive
I would not have the patience for this game. You seem to have a knack for dealing with the most frustrating nonsense in some of these games you play. I'd totally switch this game on for that pretty sweet tune on the first few stages. M.C. Kids is called McDonald Land here in the UK. It's quite a rad game. The GB Versions a bit of an oddity. In Europe it was turned into a Cool Spot game with all the 7Up stuff in it. I really wanna get that McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure game some day.
This game seems super charming! The attack angle is a bit difficult, but what a cool game. Thanks for showing this off! Edit: Well, aside from Sky World :P
I had McDonald's birthday party at my homeroom at school. They brought the food by the school. It was bad ass. I was the coolest kid in my homeroom for a while. lol
I remember that i've been at one or two McDonalds Birthdayparties in the early 2000 and even nowadays I see kids celebrating their birthday at there. I live in germany though, so i don't know how it's in other parts of the world
Ok I was busy but I finally finished watching. I'm not sure but I think on that last boss you're supposed to throw shit into his mouth. Looks tough. If I were you I'd be cursing and getting so frustrated lol
So fruit is your weapon on your quest for junk food from McDonald's? And it explodes, so not only is fruit considered worthless enough to throw at foes but it's also outright dangerous?! Damn, that's some twisted 80's style subliminal marketing shit right there.. I love it! I went to a birthday party at a McDonald's as a kid once, too. It was at one that had a (large) Play Place, which was/is an indoor jungle gym with tube slides, ball pits, rope bridges and the like. I don't remember anyone in costume showing up as Grimace or any other character, and I was totally terrified of that kind of stuff as a little kid so I think I would've remembered it via the psychological trauma it probably would've given me, and all I can really remember is having a blast! The big mac police prison? Hells yeah I remember that! There was one at the McDonald's closest to where I lived growing up. It didn't have a play place, just a small out door playground area with that as its crown jewel! The one I remember was bigger and taller than the one pictured, you could climb up through the center part and into the burger part. Also, the bars were farther apart because I clearly remember being able to jump out the side of it as well as trying to climb back into it the same way. Wow, I haven't thought about any of this stuff in ages.. This is the first time I've seen this game and I thought it was looking pretty decent up until sky world, I do like the whole throwing sticky apple bombs deal. I actually fired it up and played a little past that part and it unfortunately doesn't get any less frustrating from there. There's a water level not too long afterwards that makes those flight controls seem god damn heavenly in comparison, and it's where I gave up after I got stuck on a background tile and couldn't break free from it. I agree, we definitely got the better deal with M.C. Kids here in the west, which was a pretty rare thing back in those days as typically Japan got the better exclusives. Though to be fair each game has elements the other sort of lacks, if only the two dev teams had worked together on a single vision.. I really enjoyed this one, not a game I think I'd be interested in playing (again) but it was certainly fun to watch you play it, though I'm sure that's a result of the time, effort, and thought that went into making this. Whatever the case it definitely earned that like! Totally gave me one hell of a wicked nostalgia trip, ty!
I’d like to see a follow up video, you know you can run when holding B eh. Once you figure out the controls it’s fun, I made it all the way to Castle World tonight, though yes it is a challenging game
As late as 2012 I remember a birthday party at McDonalds when i worked there. I brought out the cake for the family . I got a 20 dollar tip that day 😄.
"Alright, let's do this. Let's do this fucking jump." *walks off platform* Hahaha, oh man, I laughed SO hard. That is my favorite part of this whole video and your face afterward was perfect xD In all honesty though, we've all done that countless times.
11:34 gaaah what's the weird googly eyes story? I must know! For my part, I didn't put expressions on things but I was and am a connoisseur of unintentional expressiveness in inanimate object designs, like the *shocked* look of American power outlets.
Donald McDonald. I smile every time I hear/read about how Ronald goes by Donald in Japan. Because why not lol. It would be even better if the inverse was that they referred to Donald Duck as Ronald Duck.
When I was young our local video store had this game for rent. Seeing a famicon game with an adapter we weren't sure it would actually work on the NES but it did. The game is great and much better than MCKids PS When I was 5 I had a McDonalds birthday party. My city was big for trains so out back they had a faux caboose that held childrens and birthday parties in it. It was a great memory
The trees have a very strange smug look, as if they were thinking, “yeah I’m in a McDonald’s video game, I got connections.” I liked putting google eyes on things when I was younger too. I put them on a peach that looked like it was sticking it’s tongue out and a sweet potato that looked like a mouse.
Love your videos. Who would't want to hang out and play videos games with Erin all day...
I know I would.
You are the cutest human possible with your hambuglery shirt and your fascination with 90s fast food seating. Please never stop being you. - joel
Joel McKinney I highly approve this message haha
I worked at McDonlad's in the late 80's and early nineties. We had quite a few kids parties and they were a nightmare. I'm glad you found me, and thank you!
I love our McDonalds and I have gotten a lot of awesome stuff from them! Like old merchandise in the back room and not as cool as this but I did get the halloween tape from my childhood!! haha
And plates and glasses and cups wtf they didn't throw anything away! :)

😂
"I think all these trees should have faces" - Erin 2018
Hey, I meant what I said ;)
Omg Global Gladiators - So Remember That.. Might Have To do A Video On That Game.. Fab Video ✨☺️
Awesome video, well-worth the wait! Production quality is getting better and better, too :)
This game seems like a real labor of love; I really like the scenery, but those apples look tricky to use. You seem to have them just about mastered, though!
I think I remember those tubes with water and bubbles! And yeah, the apples are bit awkward to use but you get the hang of it :)
It startd at 16:54 ...Annoyed, cursing Erin is cutest, best Erin. ❤😂
Erin lets build a time machine and go back to the 80s!
Because of your videos I'm thinking to start playing retro games again! Thanks Erin! Great channel by the way ;)
That’s so awesome to hear :) and thank you very much!
17:06 That bomb jump was inspired! Shades of Umihara Kawase right there. Or, you know, Metroid. Bring on the Donald Land romhacks!
This Intro's really remind me of Cinemassacre. So Ronald McDonald runs around in a town, fightin Angry Bird Bosses, running around in the forest in the SKY! And fighting a psychopathic lizard whose eyes are freaking out.
Her boyfriend is Mike Mattei, that is why

Game Sack The odd super jump where you need to jump off your own balls, scuse me, bombs should annoy you too. Such an odd mechanic.
Erin Plays is the official Gaming Historian of McDonald's games.
Well, now I am the one getting learned because I totally didn't know that about McKids being a clothing store! My mind is a bit blown, because I've wondered about M.C. Kids having the "." for YEARS! joe loves parallax scrolling...just reminding
Also explains why Prell shampoo isn’t as big in Japan. Could you imagine a Japanese person trying to buy Prell?
I love you tube. I rented this game when I was about 15 or 14 years old, and I was so impressed with it in the 80s and I have constantly looked for it but I couldn’t find it and here we are
2 all beef patties,
special sauce, lettuce, cheese,
pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun

@@ErinPlays I like to chat about random memories, lol.
Thank you!!!😊
I fuckin snort-laughed when I saw the preview of this video with you rockin Hamburglar gear. Well done!
Excellent video Erin!! Nice game, although that part with the red baloon looks very frustating, and also a little bit disturbing 'cause "Donald Mcdonald" with the red baloon reminds me of PennyWise🎈😐✌
I would love it if Erin guested on a James and Mike Mondays episode. Erin, James and Mike Monday! Make it happen!!
My little brother had a bday at McDonald's. This McDonalds had a special room for them. Full of arcade machines and a creepy McDonaldland pirate ship scene painted on the wall. 😆
I found out about this game from a Game Dave review and I just love how weird it is! Nice to see you tackle this game!
Found yah today!
Enjoying the vibes here and the happy feels 🤘'
Keep up the good work Erin ✅

I lol'd at "nibbler twins" for some reason. That's perfect that you were drinking McDonald's coffee while watching! :D And thank you!
Even though it’s 1987, MacTonight was not in this game, it’s McDonaldland characters. MacTonight was a N.A exclusive
It's always lovely to watch your videos. You have a cute charm to you that makes you fun, relatable and easy to watch/listen to.

Doesn't trust the trees cause they have faces. Wants all the trees to have faces. 😂😂😂

Hi there! I just found your channel after seeing a random tweet of yours. Your videos are great! Keep it up!
I went to a McDonalds birthday party as a child too. As a kid growing up in the late 80s I never had the chance to play this game though I remember seeing it at the video store once back then. Okay this is officially the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen but I love it
YEP THE SHEET CAKE!! And they had sugar cake toppings that looked like Ronald and Grimace and balloons that said happy birthday.
That little dude is crying and shooting huge tears, not bubbles lol. Tears don’t hurt :)
I always they should make a McDonald's turn-based RPG. Ronald = fighter, Hamburglar = thief, Birdie = healer, Grimace = monk, Mack Tonight = red mage, etc.
That music on sky level though.....not gonna lie. It's...kinda ambiguously addictive.
Welp, now I have a craving for McDonalds. Thanks, Erin.
I can't help but think of that scene in the simpsons. STOP! STOOOOP, HE'S ALREADY DEAD!
OH MY GOODNESS!! McDonaldland was such a part of my growing up in the late 70’s 80’s!! I would love to get this game as I have a Honeybee converter I can use on my Super Retro Trio +, I only played M.C Kidz and Mick & Mack for Mega-Drive
I got this game now, it is great once you figure out how to control it properly
Just completed the game tonight, it was difficult in the Castle World, the Evil Hamburglar was harder than the Evil Wizard
"...In Donald land fruit is only used as weapons" LOL
This brings me way back ! Its sad to see Mcdonalds in its current state, the food is cut down with sawdust.
Erin u so funny!!!! Starting out saying how it looks better than MC kids.....then at the end u switch it around lol
Yeah, I guess I need to learn not to speak too soon! :p Thanks for watching :)
Guys let's make sure Erin has her birthday at McDonalds. 😉👍
(This kind of reminded me of Wario Land on original GameBoy)
I remember going to a birthday-party or two at McDonald's. I remember how "ghetto" it felt. 😆
Hi, I discovered your channel while scrolling thru some cinemassacre video comments section. Love your content!
That's awesome, I'm very glad you found me.And thank you very much!
Same, way better content than I was expecting though
The music on that sky world level was good not bad for a MacDonald's game from the 80's
I love how you have the Pat Riley's Basketball artwork on your wall.
This game seems super charming! The attack angle is a bit difficult, but what a cool game. Thanks for showing this off!
Edit: Well, aside from Sky World :P
Right? It totally has it's problems, but it was a very cool thing to stumble upon. And yeah, Sky World is the WORST!
I had McDonald's birthday party at my homeroom at school. They brought the food by the school. It was bad ass. I was the coolest kid in my homeroom for a while. lol
This.... Is a pretty funny episode. ..Yerrr ah perty funny gal Erin.
Erin , this video was really fun to watch.
some McDonald's locations will hold a wedding for you lol
I remember that i've been at one or two McDonalds Birthdayparties in the early 2000 and even nowadays I see kids celebrating their birthday at there. I live in germany though, so i don't know how it's in other parts of the world
Just found your channel. Wish I would have found it sooner! Subscribed!
I'm so glad you found me! Thanks for watching :)
You should totally play Global Gladiators, and i liked your Lego figure at the start!
Yes, I totally will be playing that at some point. And thank you! The Lego "me" was created by a very awesome viewer :)
Ok I was busy but I finally finished watching. I'm not sure but I think on that last boss you're supposed to throw shit into his mouth. Looks tough. If I were you I'd be cursing and getting so frustrated lol
That woodpecker was packing a Triple barrel SHOTGUN :0
Such an in depth storyline for fast food chain characters.
Right? But that's what makes the McDonaldland characters and this game strangely appealing :)
Haha, back in the 80's i never would have thought there would be character development in my Happy Meal figurines.
I’d like to see a follow up video, you know you can run when holding B eh. Once you figure out the controls it’s fun, I made it all the way to Castle World tonight, though yes it is a challenging game
Erin Plays deserves 1 million subs by end of 2018
As late as 2012 I remember a birthday party at McDonalds when i worked there. I brought out the cake for the family . I got a 20 dollar tip that day 😄.
The music reminds me of Pokemon on Gameboy color.
"Alright, let's do this. Let's do this fucking jump."
*walks off platform*
Hahaha, oh man, I laughed SO hard.
2:01 The lightening sound from Karnov on NES.
bart simpson - "nobody ever suspects the butterfly, hahahaha", my brain is probably as random as yours Erin :)
Donald McDonald. I smile every time I hear/read about how Ronald goes by Donald in Japan. Because why not lol. It would be even better if the inverse was that they referred to Donald Duck as Ronald Duck.
A butterfly can totally support the weight of a full grown clown.
I didn't even notice that you look like a little Hamburglar until you said it, but now I can't unsee it 😋🍔
I remember the McDonald's kids action figures that came with happy meals. Those where the days.
When I was young our local video store had this game for rent. Seeing a famicon game with an adapter we weren't sure it would actually work on the NES but it did. The game is great and much better than MCKids
PS When I was 5 I had a McDonalds birthday party. My city was big for trains so out back they had a faux caboose that held childrens and birthday parties in it. It was a great memory
I wish there was a Mac tonight game. He was always my favorite. I'll probably pick this one up some day.
Some groovin music in this game
This looks like a blast. I need to pickup a famicom or find one of the adapters in the worst way
You need to play the weird treasure genesis game too! :o
Hahaha, 4:39 sounds like a sample from an NWA album.
The trees have a very strange smug look, as if they were thinking, “yeah I’m in a McDonald’s video game, I got connections.”
I liked putting google eyes on things when I was younger too. I put them on a peach that looked like it was sticking it’s tongue out and a sweet potato that looked like a mouse.
I've never put googly eyes on fruit, but that sounds amazing, haha. Thanks for watching!
Great vídeo Erin!!!
16:15 Erin jump fails repeatedly... Lolz
