    Can't agree more. My wife and I walk every morning (weather allowing) 6km. (4 miles?) BEFORE breakfast. That means in summer we get up at 5 am. We are 74 years old and generally quite healthy. Maintaining a certain level of physical discipline is also helpful for self confidence and psychological strength. One has to work for it though. The benefits are very rewarding in terms for quality of life. Without health there is no life.

    I walk outside by the Seine River on days the weather is good. If not, I spend an hour dancing 💃

    Good advice! I take a morning walk after breakfast every day that the sun is shinning. About to head out now. I look forward to your next video!

    I agree with you about the morning sun exposure because our circadian rhythm is reset by early exposure to the suns light.

    I walk daily, 2 hours straight, never missa day. When taking vacation to Europe, walk all day, at least 6 hours straight, only sit for a meal or coffee time. But honestly I can never make it in the morning, for a simple reason, I sleep at 3 AM (watching movies every late at night) and waking up at noon for lap swim. Trying very hard to go to bed before midnight, but only to fail. I can beat every bad routine, except late bedtime. However, am doing fine for the past decades to now. No meds needed, no vaccines of any kind and no doctor visits required. Am 71. Walk all my life since the start of walking and I think that's the most important thing to keep me well.
    Will try non stop to reach the goal to Walk early morning. Thank you doc, you're totally correct.

    You have a perspective of being closer to the Equator than Canadians. We don’t get VitaminD producing sunshine most of the year in Canada. So we go to work and school in the dark and come home in the dark for a good part of the year. Walking after a meal is great for all the reasons you give. In fact, after some health issues from ultra running, it is my best Zone 1/2 option for cardio and I do 1-1,5 hours per day. it has had a great impact on my health: lower BP, lower resting heart rate , higher Vo2, better sleep. etc

      Similar in UK we only get about 6/7 months of useful vit d type sunshine and lets face it most people working by time its actually at correct angle to impart vit d 3. Yes we could go out in our lunch break and find somewhere to sit in sunshine or walk in a park if we can find one close to work but thats only way we can get it during working week for most people.

    Maybe the body is a wood stove that you need to stoke a couple times a day?

    I thought recent research suggested our muscles at their best usually for most people around 3pm and we less likely to injure ourselves. In UK you cant get vit d from sunshine assuming it even present until around 10.30 in Summer. I wouldn’t underplay skin cancer. Given fact our ozone layer depleted. But 20 minutes without block should be fine. In order to absorb vit d from summer sunshine not winter sunshine the sun needs to shine at a certain angle .

    Thanks for this! I’m a new subscriber and it looks like I will learn a lot here. I have a question: how long after the meal is it better to walk?

    • @AdamJStoryDC
      @AdamJStoryDC  26 днів тому +3

      No hard fast rules like "30 minutes." Firstly, it's walking, not running or hard exercise. Those that say "wait 30 minutes after a meal" are talking about the 1970's thought of "wait 30 minutes after a meal to swim." I find that I eat, do the dishes, then get the shoes on and get out the door. I've never timed it. Never had a cramp. Never worried about it.

    I have sleep issues, so I can't walk early morning. I don't typically wake up till close to noon. I have had 27 skin cancers cut out, and hundreds of keratosis burned off, so being in the sun IS an issue for me. my dermatologist has told me to wear sunscreen, especially on my face, even when I'm indoors all day. My son and I walk in the evening, after dinner, when the sun is going down. It has helped both of us lose weight. But I guess it's not helping me much in the vit d area. How long do we need to be in the sun to get the bit d benefits?

    • @AdamJStoryDC
      @AdamJStoryDC  26 днів тому

      If your skin is so bad that you wear sunscreen INSIDE, then you'll have to supplement because going outside is not an option for you.

      @@elizabethdavis9119 you have to eat a LOT of food. That’s why there’s supplements.

    I just heard a guy say that if the sun's angle is such that your shadow is longer than you are tall, then you cannot make Vit D from sun exposure......that sounds crazy to me......Whacha think about THAT??!!
