The original movies were interconnected which made things more intriguing. Like Josh in the Further, banging the door of the Lambert house and the past Josh opening the door to see who it is but no one was there. In the opening scene when the kid Josh talks to an unknown person and gives him direction, we assume it is a demon but it turned out to be Josh himself. The third and the fourth movies were great too but they did not include the Lambert family or the interconnectedness.
I don’t think this film is bad in any way, but it did have the potential for being great that’s what disappointed me the most. Otherwise this is a pretty solid directorial debut for Patrick Wilson. I did feel that the ending was kinda full circle, so was satisfied with the family part of the movie!
I was pretty disappointed that Rose Byrne was barely in this, her and Josh’s relationship was kinda at the core of the first two films. Their divorce feels like an afterthought here.
Also the lack of tucs and Specs and elises niece from the 4th movie who was gaining power. They could have done soo much more but it atleast it ended in a somewhat happy way.
This movie was building so good, and then the climax hit and I remember asking myself in the theater “is… is that it?”. They really sped through that for some reason
@@mariosonicfan1494 I don’t think there’s much they could do with that, they’ve already solidified the universe and the characters of specs and tucker wouldn’t really be marketable for a film, they would need to bring back the lipstick demon if they were to center a film around them
@@mariosonicfan1494 that could help with the box office but I doubt Jenna would want to come to this franchise after last being in it when she was like 8 for 15 seconds 😭
The movie ain't bad, but it was really lacking. I know it focuses more on the relationship between josh and dolton, but I really wished there were more thrill parts and screentime of the red face demon, because we've only seen him once or twice in the movie
I think they should make the next movie about Kali. The poor girl was horrified so much as a baby, she probably can astral project now too. I think the baby alone in a room was one of the scariest elements in the first two movies. The second movie had serial killer in disguise driving kids to school and a mad woman who wouldn't hesitate to slap you especially if you called her son, a boy. This one relied on the prospect going back to the further and getting close to your past demons. I think it was pretty good. Most people are just coming with excuses about why it is bad but I do agree it is not as scary as the first two. Edit: The ending to the second movie might not be satisfactory. Sure, they forgot everything so the audience felt that the Further would not bother them again. After this movie, they remember everything. Whatever that entails for the future, one thing is for certain, Dalton and Josh have a deeper connection now knowing what they have gone through together.
Honestly what bothered me the most, was the lack of the family coming together. The divorce felt wrong, the kids felt disconnected and such. I understand why, but still. Hot take, Insidious 3 was the scariest! It goes 3,1,2,5 & 4 for me!
But from other hand, it was logical thing if you think bout it. I mean woman saw her husband as a monster who tried to kill her and the kids, and as she said in the movie, even if it wasnt really Him who did that, it was his body, his face, and kids and wife saw him doing all that. That's traumatic. For me its realistic, thats why I like it
Going back to the Lambert family made me pretty excited, but this was a pretty disappointing horror movie if you ask me. It did make me scared of MRI scans though! lol
I was so excited about the ghost showing up behind Josh in the car at the funeral, I was looking forward to that sort of “haunting of hill house” more subtle background horror but this movie fell a little short of pulling it off. Edit: you guys are exactly right I was expecting more of a Mike Flanagan type of style
I liked it 😉 Chris is a better friend than me because I would have sprinted out of that room when those creepers started crawling at me. MRI machines do sound like that but you wear earplugs so it's pretty muffled. It's been like 10 years since the original so they did do a bit of a soft reboot. I didn't mind it. Sequels usually rehash some stuff in case audience members didn't watch the first one(s).
i was waiting for the climax and i went to check the time left and it was over already, i was so surprised. it's not like it wasn't a long movie but at this point i think a lot of us are used to 3 hour long movies
If you guys haven't seen 3 and 4, your mission some of the context of whats happening and why. The further is basically a spirit world where time means nothing. Which is why theu see different versions of themselves and even slightly interact with them.
18:13 if you think that was a weird inclusion of comedy in the movie- please consider that women get these “weird inclusion”s in every aspect of life. A guy defended me from being harassed the same way but then an hour later pushed himself on me. I’ve encountered worse than this on a public bus. A weird inclusion isn’t a wrong assessment- just know that it’s not as bizarre as you might think.
To me the divorce in this reminds me of what Lisa Kudrow said when she was asked if there will be anymore friends content. “To make more stories you have to undo the happy ending you give your characters”. It felt wrong
Fun fact. I don't watch horror movies alone. However, i watch it with you guys and your comments kill the scary tension. So keep on doing that. Thanks!
I’m in the minority with my opinion, but I adore this movie. I have the biggest soft spot for Patrick Wilson and I just really loved how they got Ty, Andrew, Rose, Lin, and Steve all back for the movie. I loved Ty’s performance and I was so happy to be able to go back to the Lambert’s and have a maybe slightly ambiguous, but hopeful, ending for them and it just itched that scratch for me. I didn’t have high hopes given the reviews but was so pleasantly surprised.
Sorry gentlemen, this is very much how MRI machines sound and it is pretty accurately depicted. Tore my ACL and have had a few. They give you the headphones to help with the loudness b/c you’ll be in there 20-45 min.
I don't know if it is just with me, but everytime I'm watching another video and I start watching one from Reel Rejects, it feels like the Reel Rejects audio level is a bit too low. I always have to crank it up when I watch it and I always get a scare jump when I go back to another video afterwards, because now the volume is too loud. Fair to say that is my fault for never remembering to lower the volume back down, afterwards, if this always happens, and also my fault for not keep only watching other Reel Rejects videos, after.. But I just wanted to share this feedback.
No MRIs are much louder. They're horrifying machines that have largely contributed to my claustrophobia. They give you headphones that play jazz, but you can barely hear it. I was 8 when I had my first one, and it was a terrifying experience.

You know in real life an art professor can and very much WILL get in serious trouble for telling their student to rip up their work. I'm especially annoyed by this scene because I'm trying to find my place in the art world at my new college. The kid didn't quit, the professor gave up on him.

I love James Wan "as a director", SAW, insidious 1&2, and the conjuring 1&2, It's unfortunate that he didn't get to direct all the horror movie series he created such as the conjuring 3, insidious 3 and 4, and also SAW II~X
Insidious is ok for how they do horror nowadays. But personally I'd give it a C+ if I was grading this term paper. Things change over time, but I usually just like the way they did things decades ago better. It felt more raw which made things scarier. 👻💙
Great movie though I prefer Tucker/Specs over Kris as the comedy element. Kris was okay, but nowhere as entertaining as Tucker/Specs so disappointed with that choice. I loved the Dalton/Josh story though and I felt so much emotion with that. Haven't felt that type of emotion since Insidious Chapter 3. Really wish Cali was involved more I mean she was the baby haunted so much in the first two movies lmao. Like, how could you NOT involve Cali more? The writing wasn't the best and it needed more of Dalton/Josh together. The Red Faced demon I think had more screen time in the first movie even than this lol. I don't get why he was so barely shown yet so promoted. The way they concluded that story felt so silly and eh. Painting over his door to end the Red Faced demon didn't make much sense to me.
I expected this movie to have a progression like Doctor Sleep. It felt like this story should’ve been a B plot or a setup for the movie rather than the movie itself.
I really liked the first two…and this one was meh. One thing I’ll say is the few scares they had were really good, everything else was disappointing. They spent too much time focusing on what we as the audience already knew. I will say, the scene with Josh in the car was super creepy, though now we know that it’s Elise, it’s lost its spook value. I will say I loved the memory window game scene. I was really expecting Josh to lift up paper and see someone standing there, so the break though scene really shocked me, that was well done.
While there's some good acting and directing, the script and direction of the plot was a let down. Wish we got more of Rose And The Further. Weakest of the franchise.
