being a 90s kid this is an example of how awesome my childhood was! Colin McRae Vs Tommi makkinen, 22B Vs Evo 6! God, these were the times, the golden age of WRC! Sure Group B was great, but the late 90s were insanely great!
The guy was more than a legend. He was a hero amoungst his fans. The way he could control his scoobie was mesmerising always at the very limits and pushing for more.
Owen Evans Here in Canada , Subaru is one of the more popular rally manufacturers. Every time I see one, I have a rush of memories... I still pray for a return someday. Happy to see Toyota back in WRC though.
Remembering rally legend Colin McRae World Rally Champion incredible driving wet or dry he was totally committed,100% He was a hero amongst his fans. The way he could control his Subaru was mesmerising always at the very limits and pushing for more McRae died in 2007 when he crashed his helicopter near his home. The accident also killed his son and two family friends on board In November 2008 all on board the helicopter died so tragic klick on Subaru to see Colin McRae in action
Wow , from 0:10 my jaw was literally hanging on the ground ... I was in the forth grade when Colin McRae Rally came out ( got it on PC with the Microsoft Sidewinder ... but damn this dude could drive!!! And the sound ... jeez ... RIP Colin
Who's in their early thirties that remembers the feeling they got when they seen a subaru imprezza on the road when they were around 10 years old. Seeing it in a magazine or a toy. It's part of my childhood. Such an iconic car that became that way due to colin mcrae.
I'm in my 50s and had an Impreza and used to go out in it at around 1am in country lanes so at that time of night you could see lights coming as the roads would be quiet and I could really give it some beans, great times!
there were legendary cars like Citroen, puegot, lancia, Mitsubishi, Audi, ford, vw,skoda, Hyundai, mini, Porsche,Saab,Nissan,Suzuki, etc.. but none came closer to subaru with that kinda charm or karizma, still so many of them love this machine. it left seeing wrc ,after subaru exited.
Vivek John lancia was the legend of legends, my 3 favourite drivers ever won their championships for Subaru but lancia had what no other manufacturer has ever had before or since and even to do it with such an old design and without manufacturer support (last integrale championship victory) is an incredible achievement which further cements their claim on being the champions of the champions as an undeniably obvious fact. Subaru are up there but I'd say behind audi (they made the most important car (all be it a flawed design in many ways) in the history of loose surface motorsport).
@@theant9821 Lancia are the last 2 wheel drive to win the WRC with the 037 and they were up against 4 wheel drive, but for me, nothing ever came close to the Audi Quattro or the Subaru Impreza for looks, sound and the way they handled under the right driver
Aww man, this brings back a lot o memories. I loved watching Colin attack each course. The boys today are good, but I believe back then they were the best. I used to have the XBox game that was named after him. I wish I still had it! Thanks for the memories. I will be watching again.
I grew up watching Colin race during this era! And in the states that was rare, because WRC wasn't televised like it is now. I found rally racing on some random foreign channel. In the late 90's everyone was all about Honda. When people asked me what car I liked I said Subaru! I got so many confused looks because Subaru in USA wasn't really popular like it is now. Now everyone loves Subaru.
It's the dump valve. The chirpy ones were pioneered by prodrive and forge motorsports. An old top gear reviewed a prodrive concept car with one. It dumps the charge in a staggered way causing the noise. Fitting one to a modern turbo install could kill the turbo quick.
+john hyslop something to do with the anti turbo lag I'm pretty sure, it's why you get the limited short bursts instead of the sudden immediate release of air pressure within the induction system. Keeps the turbine spinning at high rpm even at low engine speeds, so you get that immediate burst of power when you plant your foot down
I loved the Subaru Imprezas like the STI's most probably, well in my childhood my uncle bought me an Subaru RC car which I couldn't forget it.He at the same time bought me RC cars like the SLR McLaren,Peugeot,Ferrari GTB classic etc......... But now the memories are 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭I can't even play TDU2 as I lost the case.Subaru 4 Rally ❤❤
Great video awesome driving makes me feel sick watching it, how the he'll did the co driver read them notes!! RIP Colin sadly gone but never forgotten.
Audi fanboys say they got the nicest turbo sound... But this Subaru sounds very clean and fast. Not that aggressive like the inline 5s of Audi rally cars but still better in my opinion
The fast peddling scotsman sadly lost.if you ever had the pleasure to see him drive then video don't do him justice, it didn't matter on the conditions he made cars go around bends like they on rails ,seriously fast
Does any one know when did he say: "IF IN DOUBT, FLAT OUT".....?? I really want to see a video of Colin saying that... Can any one help me out with this?
You can tell this was the best era of Rally by the amount of Impreza's and Evo's that are on the road from that time now.
Idk group b is Maybe better even though the Subie and eco are amazing cars just wish they had a shot at group b

Sudharshan Vinayak those are both my dream cars lmao
100% mate I was a bit gutted when went to the focus but that was a beast also

Colin McRae the Subaru rally God.
Amen!
Possum borne 100%
incredible driving, wet or dry he was totally committed,100%, What a legend
McRae was the man, “an operator at the controls.”
He made that car sing 🎵
Master of the Rally. I miss that Subaru. Was a instant classic
Great driver, great car. Shame he's gone and Subaru no longer bother with this.
Owen Evans Here in Canada , Subaru is one of the more popular rally manufacturers. Every time I see one, I have a rush of memories... I still pray for a return someday. Happy to see Toyota back in WRC though.
it's because subaru doesnt have a platform that would be competitive in the WRC nowadays, since it's pretty much all tiny hatchbacks
Because they will never make anything as good as the 22b again.
Agreed, just cars for lesbians and soyboys now.
More to do with the FIA banning the flat four boxer engine.

My favorite Impreza of all time. Love the sound!! Thanks for sharing!
The way he handles those hairpins is so satisfying to watch. He was a master of his craft.
Wow , from 0:10 my jaw was literally hanging on the ground ... I was in the forth grade when Colin McRae Rally came out ( got it on PC with the Microsoft Sidewinder ... but damn this dude could drive!!! And the sound ... jeez ... RIP Colin
212 people have Golf R's on finance and still live with mummy and daddy.

I have only one name in mind when people say legend Lancia.
You: Subaru impreza is the best.
Lancia integrale: that's cute..

When Subaru was Subaru!!!!! The spectators man so close!!!
They used to try touch his car when it went past that's how much people loved him
@@jordanwoodhouse9734 well in group B when cleaning/fixing the car they found fingers
Uno de los coches más bonitos del wrc
Simply fantastic! Prodrive built the best cars and had the best drivers back in the day.
Un régal pour les yeux.... cette précision surtout..........
@1:44 That was a flawless turn!
That Prodrive dump valve chirp love it. Used to have a forge dump valve sound like that.

+mrrsmurf Wrong, it's called compressor surge nothing to do with a dump valve

Coming to the end of the video the sound of a helicopter such a shame to unbelievable talent. He was so great.
