I don't really know about Group C, but this video will help to clarify the characteristics of Group B over Group A by watching them in action: ua-cam.com/video/Vxv-AUKsUs8/v-deo.html
Group A - Homologated race vehicles, 2500 (1993-1997) or 5000 (1982-1992) units must be produced and sold to public in order to be eligible for competition. Group A vehicles MUST be similar to the road car variants. Group B - Homologated race vehicles, 200 units must be produced and sold to the public in order to be eligible for competition. There is less restriction and rules in Group B compared to Group A. Manufacturers are can use different body materials, non-factory engine components not found in road car variants etc etc... Group C is not a rally class. However, Group N exists which is MUCH more restrictive than Group A where tuning is restricted and thus, the car is exactly the same as it's road car variant. This class is known as the "showroom class".
Group B is overrated. These cars are immediately quicker and more exciting to watch than the Group B cars that couldn't put their foot down or go around a corner in style. 90's rally wins!
I dont agree. Group B cars were monsters. Pilots had to drive "on eggs". From then it all went downhill (or uphill if you value human life) as the cars became more about safety (style as you put it) and less about beast mode. I like group B and group A for different reasons. But if I had to choose which car to on a ride between a Lancia delta S4 and an HF integrale, I'd choose the S4

Some people blamed the group B cars performance for their cancellation. However, there can be no doubt that the true responsibility is that of a very large number of spectators in certain countries. They exhibit no common sense and no respect for the drivers having to drive close to flat out between them. International rallying should have scrapped the events in those countries. The rally organizers should publicly announce that any spectator within 15feet of the track and the stage will be cancelled. If it happens again. The rally will never again take place there.
