Just played some multiplayer matches and man, they are so much fun. Reminds me of UT. Its so fastpaced ... i love it. Unfortunately nobody plays it anymore. What a shame.
The editor provided with this game looks seriously awesome. I haven't had the time to have a throughout look into it, but it is a complex editor that supports Lua scripting for modding, although at its current state, there's a serious lack of documentation. One of the most interesting things about it, is that there's a preset for a Tower Defence entity. So I'm interested in getting more into it, since it seems to be capable for some insane modding.
I like how croteam put lots of effort into not only the ingame gameplay but also into the menu and anything related. you get ridiculous amounts of graphics option customisation. also interesting how it shows you how much progress exactly each player has towards loading the next map in the loading screen. not many games do that in such detail. relatedly, the game seems to be very responive during loading screens. lots of games are unresponsive for several seconds at a time during loading screens
Just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos and your WTF Is... series are fantastic. I trust them more than any top tier gaming site review. Thanks again, and keep up the great work. :)
I think the CTF with the over saturated lights would be a lot of fun in a LAN environment. Especially with friendly fire on. I could see a lot of laughs going on from that.
I didn't see the first video but I am impressed that you would remake something you are disatisfied with, even after it was uploaded. I like your honesty about the bad attitude of many gamers who hero worship games and cannot recognise their flaws. I also like how you remained balanced about how the game was good overall, despite versus mode issues. I am looking froward to a lot of fun with mod maps in the next few months.
Those deatmatch mode's maps did not look so bad in my opinion, actually whole multiplayer looks pretty nice, but I have not played this game ever so this is just probably first time charm. 16 player co-op sounds great, just going to watch the end half of this video. And btw, you got great vids TB!
I'd love it if TB could livestream playing through some of the single player campaign some time. It's a shame that versus mode is so poorly developed, but I was mostly interested in the co-op multiplayer, and that does look very good. Now I just wish I had a system that could run this.
Oh man, this is getting fav'd, one of your best WTFs in a long time. I love hearing you bash into a game I don't particularly care about, saves me from being butthurt.
Thanks for the review and playing the demo a second time helped changed my perspective. my problem I was stuck on that one annoying map in the campaign.
@Sirijus17 He did mention it towards the end. "Remember that one level where you'd sit on top of the temple and kill wave after wave of enemies? It's basically that"
I like how TB puts 'please remember to like & favourite this video' at the end of every video. Silly Biscuit, like we don't do that when we first open the tab.
@adrianbeloo Irrelevant. If you're going to put a mode into a game, either you do it right or you shouldn't waste your time on it at all. This mode actually took development time away from co-op and singleplayer yet turned out garbage, it has a negative impact on the game even if you never play it.
@Tuber12334 As has been explained elsewhere, it's his job to take each part of the game seriously and give his impressions of it. Same reason he talks about BF3 and MW singleplayer even though people mainly buy it for the multiplayer - because if they spent development time on a game mode it should be good, otherwise they should have spent that time on the good part of the game, making it even better. Including a tacked on, unfinished mode does still take some resources from the rest of the game
Cube: Saurbraten is an amazing fast-paced deathmatch game :D it's 100% free too and you can even design your own maps (including story mode maps)... I would love to see that game become more popular
Turn down Smoke by going to the middle GPU setting - click advanced, go to the bottom it has a slider for particle density, set it to 30-50% the dust isn't a smoke screen. Press H to go 3rd person, and R with the hammer to swing. Game is fun as a modern retro arena shooter
I've found that the deathmatch is best in four-player splitscreen. Harkens back to old Halo matches on the original Xbox... could be the nostalgia talking, but ahhhhhh, it is refreshing.
@1985Boony I'm 100% sure he knows that this game is meant to be fastpaced, but that was not the issue. The issue was that the maps were bad, the imbalanced weapons, the dust/sun. This game is supposed to be fastpaced just like oldschool shooters as unreal tournament or quake, and from what I've seen it does a good job at that.
Want to point out that Gamespot Reviews said that the "versus" modes were the only really good part of the game XD... they actually complained that there were "too many enemies that got repetitive" in the campaign
To be perfectly honest, versus MP has always felt tacked onto Serious Sam. The mechanics were never designed to be used as Quake or UT style shooter. That being said, Beast Hunt looks very cool.
TB's criticism of the lack of maps is spot on but the rest isn't truthful at all. The blurring can be disabled in the graphics options (Gaussian Blur) as well as the lens flare. I'm sure the dust can be tweaked as well. Also the double barrel shotgun is just as "OP" as it was in the original games as well as their HD updates. Was insta-kill up close.
Knowing Croteam, weapon balancing can be done ad hoc on servers... There's an immense list of CVARS, and (if I remember correctly from the Serious Sam HD games) things can be nerfed/balanced with a config or autoexec.
i haven't really played the game and can't express any opinion on it so i'll just ask a question- is the gameplay from the vidio with the actual speed of the game or is it speeded up a bit? the movement speed looks stragely fast.
@BraBaBe I think he means "hard to aim" as in sniper rifle or a railgun. Even when he misses with a shotgun some splash clearly lands (especially easy to notice, when he is being shot at).
@IsaacBeechey I'm glad you're not bothered about what people think because if you did you'd be feeling like an idiot. Not that you shouldn't feel like an idiot, because you are. I'm not a gnasher fanboy, and I'm not scared of change. I think the sawn-off shotgun is OP and that's all. It quite obviously has more damage than the gnasher at a wider spread, thus allowing you to kill 3 people in one shot, range doesn't really matter in close quarters battles (largely the case in GoW 3).
Sniper and chainsaw are both banned in competitive play for HD along with Serious Damage, but that last one's a given. That one does have more maps and tricks though.
@TotalHalibut : I gotta say those 14, 16? Player co-op maps looks really fun, I'm sure it'd be a blast and I'd certainly like to play it... However, since you HAVE had some experience in it, do you feel it would got old quickly? I imagine there is a wide verity of maps but how much lasting appeal do you think that game mode would hold, with no form of achievement/progression built in.
Ive got to say that the co-op looks amazing for all of the different types that there is in serious sam and that if you dont like competitive which i dont think many people would, well then you could just stick with co-op
Double Barrel Shotgun was EXTREMELY OP in TSE PvE. In TSE there is no competition in corridor shooting, DBS is the best weapon for corridor shooting. Also in TSE,Red Station map, the most overpowered weapon is Minigun. You get on top of the tower where you find Minigun and the only thing that can kill you is Sniper Rifle (if anybody is able to get it). The point of this comment is that DBS was OP in TSE so it's not really a surprise.
@Metall37 "The Total Biscuit ballad" by Charlie Parra. He also has a youtube channel posting guitar covers and metal adaptations of various pieces of soundtrack.
I miss quake 3 when there was stuff that would kill you if you fell into it or lots of elevated levels. Made you more aware of your surroundings, so it was more fun to jump around and shoot peeps.
I like how he said : "There is no place for smoke. Its not like Counter Strike or Battlefield with tactical smoke grenade." He skiped MW3 again. You doing it right TB!!
But in Counter Strike you'll most likely get killed until you reach that distance, you'll end up dead. Also an AK47 can insta-kill from far greater range, not to mention the sniper rifle. The real issue with the double barrel shotgun is not that it's too strong, it's that the maps are too little so you will end up being close to people all the time, so shotguns often become your primary choice of weapon; and the other shotgun has too much damage in middle distance.
@TotalHalibut Switching to the AR from the DBSG with auto weapon switch enabled is perfectly justified logically; it's a more versatile weapon with a more consistent source of damage. You're also forgetting that damage isn't the only factor. The RL is almost always the most versatile weapon in FPS DM games because of the RJ, juggling, the fact that it moves your target around a lot. Hitting an SG-wielder with a rocket disrupts their rhythm. Sources?: Soldier/Assault class in any FPS ever made.
*Looks at comments expecting Serious Sam related comments* "lol COD sucks" "u suck at COD noob" And assorted comments related to COD and Battlefield 3. This is a throwback shooter like the arcade games you played when you were six. It's very different than modern FPS titles.
You know these are non-drm which means you can download them from any site and put them on your xbox. They will be playable with no mods or chips required and no banning possible. This is possible because the game is an arcade game and has been on disc once. Arcade games which has been on disc are most likely non-drm.
Serious Sam games have always had the over the top gameplay and weapons that are seriously OP. I'm not defending the game, your assessment is right on and that's why I've never bought a Serious Sam game.
Serious Sam is *not* meant to be a deatmatch game. It is a "kill wave upon wave of silly monsters untill you get dizzy"-game. The only thing that should be said about SS3 multiplayer deathmatch is: "Hey, cool it's even there!" If only TB had asked me before he made this video he could have saved alot of time.
I concur - the multiplayer has never been a strong point but the Co-Op looks fantastic it is something to build on though and games like this will be important as stated - hopefully Indy companies who have grown up with these games will feel inspired to give their input in new releases ... I miss the UT series, previous titles were great, UT3 - didn't like the maps - and the single player was never strong point - it's a shame that there is now that imbalance in modes within modern titles
You have a problem with the double barrel being lethal at close range yet mellee weapons in a lot of games are also lethal at close range, yet there never seems to be a problem with that.
@TotalHalibut I totally agree. I think DICE wasted time making a BF3 single player when they really didn't need to. There was no single player story campaign in BF2. At least there wasn't in the PC version.
@JormundFenris The whole appeal of Gears is the fact that the shotgun combat is so satisfying. The special weapons are pretty cool too, and lancers have their place and time. Also...Gears' maps are nothing like these.
@FluidDeconstructor - That is all down to your internet speed. If the video hasn't buffered let it load. If the quality is low you may need to update your drivers or buy a monitor that isn't 10 years old.
Did anyone else find it ironic how he was saying the double barreled was overpowered when he fired 4 shots at a guy with that very gun and didn't bring down his opponent?
Super strong shotgun, hmm... sounds very Serious Sam like tbh.In older serious sam games everyone used shotgun because it was (one of) the best weapon. Somehow they did the same or made it even stronger in this game. They probably tried to have the shotgun of the same 'importance' as it was in previous versions. I agree that they shouldn't have done that and should make it more balanced but it's very traditional
@tangodale Yerp, he knows that but he's just saying that Serious Sam has always been about singleplayer with the occasional coop so it doesn't really matter if the versus mode sucks.
Even at close range, this is not a video game. You do not have a health bar that can sustain more than 3 shots from any type of gun. If you are at point blank and one guy has a shotgun and the other has a handgun and they both fire, it's not going to matter which is a more powerful gun because both of those guys are dead. You can't take more than several bullets (At the very most) from any gun (without one of those historical "50 bullets to the chest and still survive") miracles from any gun.
@slayor2000 Though you're probably right, 2 quick questions to you: "Aren't the people here just being subjective and talking about their opinions, about TB and the game?" "Is it right for TB to say that stuff is just bad and just not done well? Shouldn't he say: "I don't like this/ I think this should never have been programmed/ in my point of view this is not done well at all?"
@TheInfeksjon95 Wrong, he said slicing through someone with a lightsaber and not killing them was a logic error. In the movies a light saber slices straight through someone, in SWTOR it's basically a shiny club. So it was a logic issue, not a gameplay issue,.
@xXxBlackwaterXxX he's pretty much 100% correct. He gives his honest first impressions of a game in each video he does. If a game has obvious problems, they show up pretty well in the first bit of the game. You sir, are exactly what FunnyGuy meant by people who's opinions don't actually matter.
@JustaTestable its not about not liking it its about the fact that having the best weapon at the start of a deathmatch is just a bad design flaw. sure some people will like it just like heaps of people like mainstream music, that doesnt stop it from being terribly designed though
Just played some multiplayer matches and man, they are so much fun. Reminds me of UT. Its so fastpaced ... i love it. Unfortunately nobody plays it anymore. What a shame.
They just recently released a serious Sam collection on Xbox One and Series X and no one is playing VS at all

-picks up double barrel shotgun and fails-
I lol'd :3
tytytytytytytyty for making this one i was so hoping on it single is nice now lets see the multi!!!
in actual humble bundle!
hey hey hey, this is a first impression series, mr cookie.
you can't say it sucks if its a first impression.
The final bit with there big bunch of people and expensive map looks real cool...
Co-op is nice, Competitive Co-op is also awesome.
I've found that the deathmatch is best in four-player splitscreen. Harkens back to old Halo matches on the original Xbox... could be the nostalgia talking, but ahhhhhh, it is refreshing.
2 TB videos in a row
I'm in heaven
i like it that your character is whearing sunglasses and you are still blinded by the sun
that ctf lighting was rly just funny
This game looks very fun on co-op and your video is making me sway towards buying it just for co-op.
@1985Boony I'm 100% sure he knows that this game is meant to be fastpaced, but that was not the issue. The issue was that the maps were bad, the imbalanced weapons, the dust/sun.

good vid and ur armuments are totally viable, I hope more dev's will now jump the bandwagon and make some more fast paced fps's again. I really do
"the double barrelled shotgun is ridiculously overpowered" he says, after dying to a guy after shooting him with said weapon 4 times
I happen to like the smoke effects. It's like an inadvertent environmental effect.
we had a lot of fun with split screen in old serious sam, cannon balls and banana melee ftw (and our own maps!)
13:20 "the game shows itself in a bad light" I see what you did there...
@TomTheBlogger This is his 3rd recording and second upload, so you probably saw his first upload before he took at down due to complaints.
Creator 1: hmmm courtyard of death... bet you cant make that worse
Creator 2: Challenge Accepted
@MrRandomozzy I think it makes things more interesting and terrifying which just vamps up how fun it is.
I miss quake 3 when there was stuff that would kill you if you fell into it or lots of elevated levels. Made you more aware of your surroundings, so it was more fun to jump around and shoot peeps.
You sir, are my hero.
I like how he said : "There is no place for smoke. Its not like Counter Strike or Battlefield with tactical smoke grenade." He skiped MW3 again. You doing it right TB!!
13:28 "Tacked on"
Words I was looking for. I was wondering if he thought it was a proper versus mode or not, glad he sees that its just tacked on. =P
The capture the flag mode reminds me of Lazer Tag at a fun park place with all the flashy lighting
I wondered where this video had gotten to. How come it was taken down before?
But in Counter Strike you'll most likely get killed until you reach that distance, you'll end up dead. Also an AK47 can insta-kill from far greater range, not to mention the sniper rifle.

Anyone else feel their retinas burn every time TB looked at the sun?
@TheInfeksjon95 Keep in mind he's not saying 'It's unrealistic' Just that it's OP
The only thing that should be said about SS3 multiplayer deathmatch is: "Hey, cool it's even there!"
If only TB had asked me before he made this video he could have saved alot of time.
The Multiplayer versus was obviously a last thought, but, I still love the game because everything else about the game is pretty good.
Love the ingame chat.
"The game shows the game in a bad light" *in the place with bad lighting*
OH, THE IRONY!
It's kinda implied when this video is named "WTF is... Serious Sam 3 MULTIPLAYER" also, the original video is in the suggestions.
I concur - the multiplayer has never been a strong point but the Co-Op looks fantastic
it is something to build on though and games like this will be important as stated - hopefully Indy companies who have grown up with these games will feel inspired to give their input in new releases ... I miss the UT series, previous titles were great, UT3 - didn't like the maps - and the single player was never strong point - it's a shame that there is now that imbalance in modes within modern titles
@WarriorAzorth He never said SS3 was awful as a whole, just the VS mode. He said the sp and co-op were really good.
Might as well try it, i'm actually curious about the versus mode in this game!
please oh please totalbisquit play call of duty modern warfare 3 a wtf video is so needed for that game
And he finally got multiplayer to work!
*Listens to entire versus mode rant*
Okay, TB. Now me how you really feel!
@JormundFenris The whole appeal of Gears is the fact that the shotgun combat is so satisfying. The special weapons are pretty cool too, and lancers have their place and time.
Also...Gears' maps are nothing like these.
Did you already cover this or did youtube delete it or something? 0.o
To be fair I don't see the original video anywhere near this one but yes it is pretty obvious he is talking about the multiplayer
"The game shows itself in a bad light" ... says TB while raging about too bright ambient lights... I see what you did there
@FluidDeconstructor - That is all down to your internet speed. If the video hasn't buffered let it load. If the quality is low you may need to update your drivers or buy a monitor that isn't 10 years old.
The coop is awesome when your in a huge group its like a giant war
Did anyone else find it ironic how he was saying the double barreled was overpowered when he fired 4 shots at a guy with that very gun and didn't bring down his opponent?
For people that haven't fixed the smoke density - shoot the floor near your opponents if you are low health and just walk past >:)
Super strong shotgun, hmm... sounds very Serious Sam like tbh.In older serious sam games everyone used shotgun because it was (one of) the best weapon. @tangodale Yerp, he knows that but he's just saying that Serious Sam has always been about singleplayer with the occasional coop so it doesn't really matter if the versus mode sucks.
It doesn't matter. You don't have to go through the single player campaign to play Coop
@RTEGB1 Actually I said "Kua" since Kua2k is INSANELY skilled at shooting people in the face and ends up winning every match :P
holy hell, first vid so far that I couldn't watch all the way through.. first time EVER that I got motion sickness... holy hell..
Even at close range, this is not a video game. You do not have a health bar that can sustain more than 3 shots from any type of gun. @AverageFellow Uhh that was such a beautiful comment and comeback, just so logical and embarrassing xD
@slayor2000 Though you're probably right, 2 quick questions to you:
