Just a day back we uploaded a video on how you can successfully grow wheatgrass in hot summer conditions by using the tips and tricks shown in the video.
In this video we will demonstrate how to harvest the same wheatgrass tray and store it for later use.
First, take out the wheatgrass mat and place it on top of the inverted addy wheatgrass growing tray.
You have to cut the wheatgrass half an inch above the base. You can cut it in any which way you want but it’s easier to cut it from one end to the other end.
Many people prefer a sharp knife over using scissors or clippers but we find using scissors to be more convenient. It is easier to use and also doesn’t come with the added risk of hurting yourself accidently while cutting the wheatgrass.
Always use a sharp knife or scissors, as using a blunt one will make the oxidation process speed up, making the ends of the cut wheatgrass dark with foul smell coming out of it.
For storing fresh cut wheatgrass, take a handful, make into a bunch as being shown and secure it at the base of it with a rubber band.
For storing, use an air tight container and keep it in the fridge.
Avoid exposing fresh wheatgrass to air and heat. If you want to juice it, just take out the required quantity and place the container back in the fridge immediately.
If you keep container out while juicing, even for 10 - 15 minutes will be enough for the oxidation process to start and the shelf life of the wheatgrass will be shortened considerably.
Another way to make your harvested wheatgrass last longer is to use an air tight container which is just big enough to store all the harvested wheatgrass and there is no extra empty space in it.
This way there won’t be any air in the box for the oxidation process to take place while it is stored in the refrigerator.
As you might remember, while setting up this tray we used 400 gm of addy wheatgrass seed. Now let us see how much fresh wheatgrass can be harvested using only 400 gm of seed.
In summers, wheatgrass yield is less in comparison to what you can harvest in favourable winter conditions.
As you can see, we got a little over 400 gm of fresh wheatgrass from this trey.
Considering it was grown in hot home conditions without any professional equipment and intervention, it can definitely be considered a good yield.
We will keep the harvested wheatgrass in an air tight container and store it in refrigerator in the same way we store our vegetables.
If we take care to not expose it to hot temperatures and air we can safely store it for a week or more in the refrigerator.
Many people ask us if they can use same mat to harvest a second yield.
So, we will let this wheatgrass tray grow a second time using the same harvested mat and post the results in our next video.

Aw I like how you're helping each other. Cab you explaining when you know when the grass is ready to harvest? I've heard of the grass splitting but could use more info
If you want more info on slitting stage then here it is. Initially, wheatgrass sprout grows as a single blade. Depending upon the environmental factor and nutrients available, the second blade starts to grow in approximately 7 - 9 days. This the time when the plant starts using the nutrients it had stored for its growth. This stage is called splitting stage and it is time to harvest.

Yes, immediately or maximum in 24 hours, else plant will use the nutrients for its own growth.

Agar aapne bina quality down kiye store karna hai to iski ice jama ke rake ya fir chill kar ke rake. Room temperature me iske nutrients kam hote jayenge samay ke saath.
So you can only regrow them twice? Or can I like take care of them forever and harvest from them many times?
You need to give it liquid nutrition to make it grow twice or more. But commonly it is grown once, harvested and then discarded. Few people grow it twice or thrice.

My grandfather wanted to know this so I am asking this:
He feeds 1 kg ofcut grass daily to cows.suppose today he received 7 kgs of cut grass(normal)....then for today and tommorow's use the grass will be moist but after that it will dry up.
So my question is how to maintain and store cut grass so that it doesn't dry up and lose moisture for a time being.
