    I've been doing this without thinking about multilayer farming for long. I plant plantains and yams between mango trees, guava trees, arecanut palms, coconut trees, and sapodillas, and ginger, turmeric, chili, eggplants, okras, cucumbers, ivyguords, ashguord, squash, bitterguord, cucumbers, mustard greens, cowpeas, taro in the spaces left. And I sprinkle amaranth seeds all over. I have pepper vines growing on all the trees and also have jackfruit trees, teak and gliricidia growing around everything on the borders. When everything grows wild in the monsoon it looks like a jungle.

      Gliricidia does make good fences. The leaves can be used as green manure or made into pet care products.

      @@TaLeng2023 Exactly , It is a fast growing plant with lots of nitrogen content. Its a good tree to grow pepper vines. I also use gliricidia sticks as standards for cowpea plants and purple yams.

      In how many acres are you cultivating? what type of manure you are using in the farm just asking out of my curiosity?

    • @sreesanthsasidharan3841
      @sreesanthsasidharan3841 6 місяців тому +4

      @@shankarramarao1516 I'm not a professional farmer and don't do farming on a large scale. I have different varieties of mango, guava, Jackfruit and other fruit trees on a 50 cents plot near my house. However I have plans to do commercial farming on 2 more plots of roughly 1 acre each in the future. But presently farming is not my main source of income and I do it as a 'serious hobby' and to keep myself fit. I usually share part of the produce with my immediate family, cousins and neighbours and sell the surplus to local vegetable shops. But I do plant Ginger and turmeric to sell them in the market.
      I mainly use organic fertilizers like manure, compost, neem cake and bone meal, but I do use chemical fertilizers like NPK one time during the first month after I have planted the vegetables to make them grow rapidly in the early stage. I also use dolomite and epsom salt once or twice every month to provide the secondary nutrients.
      Since it is a small plot of land I only need what manure I can get from couple of my neighbours who have cows. I also use the weeds I get after I clean up my uncultivated land and the cuttings of the trees to make compost.

    Watching from Canada, Ravish and his farm are an inspiration for my own, where I plan to have all sorts of berries and small fruits, more beehives along the pond edge, and trouts eating dead bees that fall in the water, among other small creatures.

    Ravish Ji is totally INSPIRATIONAL, hard to believe he lives in an area categorized as semi-arid, considering the lushness of his Multilayered Farm! It has me thinking that this method is also possible here with me, subtropical climate and also semi-arid, this type of farm makes more sense than to pump water up from the aquifers to grow a monoculture like corn, celery or broccoli.Thank you for sharing Deccan Herald, 👍and greetings 👋from Mexico.

    I am slowly shifting from being an IT engineer to a full time farmer. What i understood in past 1 year is it requires more skill , patience and lots & lots of knowledge. In my area , most of the famers are rice growers so they don't care about the land for almost 6 to 7 months. During this time the farmer becomes a mason , plumber , daily labors etc. Till now i have realised there are problems for marginal and small farmers is that they do not have a constant source of income like a salaried person and secondly the input cost being high farmers are not interested in farming year around. There is also a complete lack of govt. Policies and initiatives.Integrated farming or multilayer famring can be the answer. An interdependent system can be answer to these problems. Parents in urban areas have to encourage their kids for farming. May it be commercial or on a terrace , or kitchen garden . Young educated peoples are need of hour. Jai Hind.

    One thing that caught my attention was Karnataka government’s roadmap towards becoming a trillion economy. What about making some roads along with the roadmaps. Wherever I go, I see tons of garbage lying around. From green city Bengaluru has become garbage city. The ambition of making 1 trillion economy will only work with good infrastructure and maintenance. People who have their own farms and are living away from the city are lucky, please don’t give upon leading a rural life, even though Urban life looks easier.
