Called Chrysler customer support the other day and explained the situation about the NOx sensor. Come to find out, I'm out of the warranty period about 30 days. But the good news is that they pulled my file and found that I had purchased six new vehicles over the past 7 years!! and decided to cover the repair with just a $100.00 deductible on my part!!. I did however find the OEM NOx sensor online for $196.00, so I would have done it myself in the event they wouldn't have covered it. So I did look for the NOx sensor up behind the turbo and yes I did find it, it's tucked behind a heat shield and would have been relatively easy to get to once removing the fender well. MCM thank you for all the help, i'm sure in the future something else will need some attention.

Great video - wish I would have found it before taking mine to get replaced for $1350! My truck was giving me the limp mode warning (for the first time) which had me wound up to get it fixed. Question for you - if I had just replaced the sensor myself would it have come out of the limp mode countdown on its own or would I have to have it cleared via some program? Thanks

Awesome! I didn't find it there but same concept. I have a 18 Ram 3500 Tradesman. There's 1 upstream right behind the turbo and the module is hard as **** to get too underneath turbo pipe passenger side of engine mid way. The down stream ones (2) are side by side at the rear of the muffler easy to replace them. I received a code of U059E. I going to replace them all as my fuel mileage have drop 3 to 4 gallons per mile since I had the truck 2 years with 176K. Oh yeah! I hotshot; therefore I need all the fuel I can save. Also, upon this I found a potential hole about to be rub into my turbo rubber boot. So, check that out while you have damn near the motor pull out for this little part. LOL But I save 10% on my truck insurance by not taking it to the dealership to fix it. LOL
thanks for the video I had both those codes, changed the upstream nox sensor, but the U059E code is still there showing under "permanent" in the cheap scan tool Does the PCM need to be reflashed with a dealer tool after the nox sensor is changed ??

David I have a 2013 Ram 2500 6.7l Cummins with about 97000 miles. Check engine light came on this evening and the dealer scanned it. P2201 code but I thought it was #2. Would that indicate the sensor after the SCR? BTW just changed the oil yesterday and had the batteries charged and load tested today. I understand the #1 sensor is close to the oil filter. Any chance the plug from the sensor got knocked loose?
How do you know if the sensor is bad or the SCR is bad? I'm at a dealer now cause my engine light went on and they say it's not the sensors it's my SCR catalytic converter is bad. Big Bucks

I have a 2013 Ram 2500. I have the same codes. When I called the dealership to get the NOX sensor, they asked if I need the upper or lower. Are these codes only related to the upstream sensor? I guess that's the lower NOx sensor. Is that correct?
There have been some changes over time. For the 2013 Ram trucks.....the Nox sensors where moved around to different locations in the exhaust. The Nox 1/1 sensor based on the codes that the video was made for....is located just behind the turbo and in the exhaust elbow. You need to remove the fender liner to get to it on the right front. It will be the upstream as you asked. Thanks for the question and make sure to subscribe
what year is the truck in this video? 2013 up nox sensor 1 is located in the turbo down pipe directly behind the exhaust housing. the module is located near the oil filter.
I read the dealer will have to flash the computer so truck recognizes new sensor is this true? Also with the p2201 code do you think it’s a definite replacement to fix the problem? Thanks
Never heard of that needing to be done. We just replace and check/clear the related codes. Before ever replacing any of these expensive items....its wise to have the vehicle checked out by a knowledgeable mechanic. Otherwise you may be replacing items that arent needed. Hey man, hope you or anyone in here will be able to answer this question. Recently replace my vgt turbo unit due to a vgt sensor failure. I decide to go with the BDDiesel vgt turbo replacement unit, after this, whenever i’m pulling my trailer loaded, usually when builts boost (28-29psi being normal pressure with peaks of 30-31psi) my boost pressure sensor goes off, then i give less gas pedal and will come again to read boost pressure. Truck doesn’t loose boost, power or give me any check engine light. What can cause this sensor to perfectly read, and when pushed going uphill (most of the time) the ECU stops reading boost, but after a min or min and half comes back again the reading. When goes back on feels like pulls stronger never going on “over boost” (more than 29psi). Truck’s deleted, with just tune to run delete, no power added.

This last weekend, I went on a 300 mile trip, once it came up, I cleared it. Then it came up again the same day. The test for the code is pretty much simple....if the code keeps returning then replace the nox sensor located just after the SCR catalyst. I feel pretty good about recommending that be replaced. Thanks for asking and for watching the video.

But then i get on the freeway and it goes away. Thanks again for your help.
Evening, Based on the majority of the codes you have.....I would start with replacing the upstream o2 sensor......its located just behind the turbo in the exhaust pipe. You will need to remove the right front fender well liner to get access to it. Then have all the codes erased and then see if anything else returns.
Checking on the code and the vehicle description.....the nox sensor in question is located just before the SCR assembly. The sensor failure is the most common cause that I have seen so far.
I only got the P2201 code.... also got a B16B7...not really sure what is going on.... i cleared them, but they came back the next day what is the B16B7?
Yes!!! I figured that one out!!! Thanks.. I cleared the p2201 code several times and it would come back... did that about 4 times.... now it has been several days and it’s not coming back on!!!!!!????! Lol
I have a 2014, and I'm getting code P2201. From what I read, I thought the upstream sensor was right behind the turbo and the module close to the oil filter. I don't think I have the module on the frame like shown in the video.
The sensor was eventually moved as you described on the later year models. I have been wanting to do a video on that sometime in the near future. Thanks for watching and sorry for the delay in replying back.
It will eventually go into limp mode and either wont let you restart the truck or not let you go over a certain speed.....like 5mph. I cant remember the exact message but pretty much along those lines. Thanks for the kind words about the video and the channel. MAke sure to subscribe.
I actually have this same problem but can't tell what the part number is that I need. What is the part number of this particular NOx Sensor? The Mopar parts site is awful.
I see no issues with clearing the code to see if it returns. If it does then I recommend having the vehicle checked to see if there might be any software updates that include this code. Its very likely that that the sensor could be bad. Thanks for asking and for watching. Make sure to subscribe.

LOL
How do you save 10%, I also hotshot and insurance is crazy, $2700 a month so anything would help
What was the problem you where having ?
I have a 2012 ram 2500 6.7. I have a P2000 code nox trap efficiency below threshold bank 1. Where is that sensor?
thanks for the video I had both those codes, changed the upstream nox sensor, but the U059E code is still there showing under "permanent" in the cheap scan tool Does the PCM need to be reflashed with a dealer tool after the nox sensor is changed ??
any updates on that?
What is the brand and website where you bought that sensor? Same CODE for a ram 2500
Great video! I'm getting same error code P2201 I'm working on 2014 Ram 5500 any idea where the upstream sensor is on it? It's not by the transfer case like in this video
Afternoon, look on the back side of the turbocharger right at the outlet elbow standing straight up. Hope that helped. I do need to do a video on that in the future when I get time. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.
@@MotorCityMechanic please do! The dealership wants to charge me 2000.00 to do it. Hell, I could delete it for that.
Big Bucks
There are different tests that get run....from testing circuits to checking the output of the DEF injector for example. Just depends on the code. Thanks for asking and for watching. Sorry your having that issue.....not cheap for sure. Make sure to subscribe.
Thank you, sir for the tip, i have this alarm on my truck, check engine
CEL is coming on and going off. Its off now but was on for the last 600 miles. Thanks in advance
Sorry, i forgot to mention i have a 2012 cab/chassy with 212,400 miles on it.
Thank you again.
Awesome video!
Thanks for posting.
I need to change both.
Any videos on lost communication with turbo?
Code U010C
Do you know which sensor is NOx Sensor Module " B" Error code U059F? I have a 2015 -2500 Cummings 6.7 Diesel
I know this is an old one, but hopefully you’ll still answer. I’m getting p2201 and u059F, do you think both sensors are bad?
I have a p2201 code, bank one and am being told that it's the sensor on the Turbo is this right?
isnt the "upstream NOX sensor" directly behind the turbo? wouldnt this be the "downstream NOX"
what year is the truck in this video? 2013 up nox sensor 1 is located in the turbo down pipe directly behind the exhaust housing. the module is located near the oil filter.
Your correct on that year.....thsi is older, not sure of the exact year, filmed it back in 2015 so it was most likely a few years old by then.
Sweet! Saving your brothers and sister hard earned cash!
Thanks for the great video, is there any retraining with scanner that is required?
Your welcome Richie. None that I know of.....should be plug and play.
@@MotorCityMechanic thanks! so as long as I have the same codes as shown mine should be the same sensor correct?
Hey I recieved a u059 code on my 14 ram Cummins. It says Nox sensor B, where is that sensor? Is that the one in this video or at the turbo?
Thanks
Does the new NOX sensor need to be flashed or prgrammed?
Just plug and play. Thanks for the question and for watching
Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.
Great vid, thanks for posting it.

Hi David, I have a 2013 Ram 4500. I got these two codes p2201 and u059e like 2 months ago. i replaced my #1nox sensor and erased codes. they just came back again. Same codes? Any idea why or how to I trouble shoot to test.
i have the witech micropod2. do you know what the parameters or values should be for testing?
Cheers. Got same code for my VW golf 1600 FSI 2004 is it the same or Similar Procedure!? Thanks
I heard the NOx sensor is an expensive part around £ 400 here in UK. Looks like I could try fit it myself and get a Trolley jack and Axle stand..
I wish I could help you but I dont know anything about VW's. I do know that sensor can be very expensive here as well.
MotorCity Mechanic cheers!!
...and to you as well.
Good Stuff. If i am only getting a P2201 & NOT a U059E is it a possibility that the sensor is just dirty? If so what can I use to clean it? Thanks!
yup just dirty' .. wipe off any soot or dirt, or brush it off with a plastic brush. and if it comes back on then just get a reflash of ecm for $200 at the dealership .
Excellent video man.. I sure appreciate you putting it online.. Can you tell me what sensor is code 2201 and 2202. is the 2201 the rear or the one next to the turbo or vise versa. 2013 ram 2500 6.7 thank you
1 month ago
Did you ever figure out which one it was? I have the same problem
Hi good morning; I see your videos. I have the same problem My question is I was told this is a dealer only repair and he truck computer has to be set to accept this new sensor. Is this right. Otherwise I can do this myself at home. In that case I will and thanks for the good information
Not true. Truck computer should not have to be "set to accept the new sensor".
Have the P2201 code and the P00AF on my 2014 Ram 2500 with 112k miles any recommendations? I think I will need to do the NOx sensor but the actuator code is intermittent did not set a light.
What is the part number of upstream bank #1 sensor?? Tnx..
i have a 2016 dodge ram 2500 6.7 l and i am getting p2201 code the questio is that the up stream or down stream and where is located on that particular model
Hi Dave. I need some help. i am getting a CEL with the code P229F. I have a 2014 Ram 2500 6.7. about 35K miles ago i replace my rear Downstream NOX, and last week i just replaced the front Upstream NOX (on turbo elbow). however i am still getting the P229F. My scan tool (AlfaOBD) is saying "NOX Sensor Circuit Range/Performance - Bank 1" what else could it be? if i remember correctly, the rear Nox gave a different code.
Chris
2015 ram 2500 6.7 diesel.
Codes U059F SAY " invalid data received from NOX SENSOR "B" AND P225F
Which sensor location and part #?
Any help would be appreciated.
I have a 2011 6.7L showing a P0132 Bank1 Sensor 1 O2 sensor circuit high, is that the same sensor that you show in this video?
Can you tell me what sensor is code 2201 and 2202. is the 2201 the rear or the one next to the turbo or vise versa. 2013 ram 2500 6.7 thank you
Thank you so much! Great explanation.
Great videos but I get p1c54 scr Nox catalyst missing. It’s only code I get. Does this mean I have to replace my scr or is there more I can do and check?
Forgot to mention
2014 Dodge Ram 3500
I'm getting P24ED engine code. A little search online is showing NOX sensor according to others. Is there a way of determining if it is the upper or lower one? 2014 3500 dually 6.7.
If I’m going to go this myself where do you recommend the best place to get this part from? Thanks for your time.
I highly recommend Mopar on this part. Not too sure if any others make it anyway, Which means dealer or online wholesaler.
@@MotorCityMechanic thank you so much for replying to me. I asked my dealer in my area and they want $700 just for the part. So what online mopar part website would you recommend? Thanks again.
what does code P020EE, P229F AND P1C54 mean on a Dodge 2014 Cummins
turbo diesel
Got the P2201 NOx sensor performance code. 2014 Ram. Have a road trip coming up and not enough time to address it before. Is it safe to drive on for a bit until I can get it in? Thanks for the great video!
Keep an eye on it because it might eventually give you that "wont start in X number of miles warning message. So be warned and be prepared if it does....it may or may not. Thanks for watching and for the question. Make sure to subscribe
@@MotorCityMechanic thanks for the reply! I should have mentioned too, the check engine light turned itself off. Not sure if that changes anything.
@@alexwright6864 With it being off then the issue isnt happening at this time which is a good thing. Just keep an eye for it in case.
Any chance this box is located somewhere else? I have nothing mounted to my frame? 2014 3500
i got 2011 ram 2500 6,7 cummins and getting the codes po191 and 2bac can this be my nox sensors bad and the one is a fuel rail pressure sensor
I have a 2016 Dodge 6.7 and got the P2201 code. Took it to the dealership, and they said it was the Upstream Nox sensor part #68210084AA. After they told me it would be $1700, I watched your very informative video, and questioned them about sensor #1, and they said that is not the way they are identified. Can you give me some assistance on which one is the Upstream Nox sensor since they don't want to give up any information? Your assistance is greatly appreciated!
For that year model it should be just after the turbo (around 4-6 inches behind it) on the elbow turning down. They moved it around over the years
Great, thanks for the info. Can I clear the code myself or will it clear automatically?
@@jeffrawlings6768 If that fixed the issue then eventually the check engine light will go off over a few days of driving. Otherwise you can disconnect both batteries and see if it goes away. Plus some local auto parts stores can clear it if you ask them to check it.
I have a 2015 2500 with about 55k miles on it. I've had the code U059F come up a couple of times. The first time, I cleared it and it didn't come back for a month. This last weekend, I went on a 300 mile trip, once it came up, I cleared it. Then it came up again the same day. Is this enough reason to just purchase the sensor/module and replace it, or would it be wise to do more troubleshooting? (I usually do my own work, so I have a hard time taking it to the dealer when I don't have to!) Thanks
The test for the code is pretty much simple....if the code keeps returning then replace the nox sensor located just after the SCR catalyst. I feel pretty good about recommending that be replaced. Thanks for asking and for watching the video.
MotorCity Mechanic thanks for the response!
Your welcome Kendall!
Well done man!
Is there another set up for this nox sensor? Mine does not have this one only temp sensor ones. I have one over top the rear end that looks like this.
Thanks for your response.
I took it to Auto Zone and they got all these codes:
P2201 Nox Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Bank 1
P229E Nox Sensor Circuit (B1S2)
P0191 Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Range/performance
P2202 Nox Sensor Circuit Low input Bank 1
U059E Invalid Data Received from Not Sensor "A"
P229F Nox Sensor Circuit Range/Performance (B1S2)
P1C55
Now its giving me this message: Service DEF System
Engine will not start in 200 miles
See Dealer.
Now there can be one exception.....and thats the year of the vehicle, I need to know that to make sure that the info I gave you is correct.
2012 C/C 3500
Checking on the code and the vehicle description.....the nox sensor in question is located just before the SCR assembly. The sensor failure is the most common cause that I have seen so far.
Hi David. My 2014 3500 is throwing code P229f. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
Sorry about the delay. The sensor itself is typically the issue. Its mounted in the outlet side of the SCR catalyst.
Best videos out there
I only got the P2201 code.... also got a B16B7...not really sure what is going on.... i cleared them, but they came back the next day
what is the B16B7?
B16b7 center stop lamp control short to ground.
Dealer wants $2100 to replace mine! Is shop rate up to $400 an hour now??
The sensor was eventually moved as you described on the later year models. I have been wanting to do a video on that sometime in the near future. Thanks for watching and sorry for the delay in replying back.
Do you have a part #???
@@JohnnyVersnachie I ended up replacing mine with a Dorman 904-6030 from Amazon. So far so good. There's a 20% off coupon right now.

What site do you think is best to order parts? I'm looking for Downstream NOS sensor for a 2014 Ram 6.7 3500 Laramie
Hi! Im not a mechanic but i think you are replacing down stream sensor bank 2
Not up stream bank 1
Correct me if im wrong please
This is on the older trucks. At that time it was filmed, there wasn’t one at the turbo elbow, years later it was added and positions changed.
Does It need to be programmed in to the computer the new one or just install and erase codes>?
Simple plug and play. No programming needed. Just clear the code once done. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe
What happens if you ignore these codes and do nothing? My husbands truck has multiple NOx sensor codes firing. Thank you. You have a great channel!
It will eventually go into limp mode and either wont let you restart the truck or not let you go over a certain speed.....like 5mph. I cant remember the exact message but pretty much along those lines. Thanks for the kind words about the video and the channel. MAke sure to subscribe.
Do you have to reset the engine light on the dash? If so, How can you do it without going to a dealer?
Excellent!
Many thanks Marion! I appreciate the feedback and kind words. Make sure to subscribe.
I actually have this same problem but can't tell what the part number is that I need. What is the part number of this particular NOx Sensor? The Mopar parts site is awful.
Did you check the bottom of the old sensor for the part number?
I got the p2201 code only do u think the box sensor is bad? I read to just erase the code
I see no issues with clearing the code to see if it returns. If it does then I recommend having the vehicle checked to see if there might be any software updates that include this code. Its very likely that that the sensor could be bad. Thanks for asking and for watching. Make sure to subscribe.
Question: 2020 ram 3500 6.7l p0420 code. What can I check?
Awesome! Dealer wants $1350. Do you have a part number?
2014 Ram 6.7 CTD do you have the part number for this sensor code p2201 for Nox 1 or do you replace both?
That would be something you need to contact your local dealer parts department with your VIN to get the exact part number.
MAY I ADD... There are 2 different plug shapes!!! Make sure your plug is either square or a rectangle...
What is the sensor on the turbo outlet elbow? I thought that was the upstream NOX sensor?
